I don't mean to sound like a dick, but as a suggestion, we have a very good "post your gear" thread (series of threads, actually) for all jobs, and there's an Imperial assload (much larger than metric assload) of PLDs who've posted their gear there. We also have a "What's better?" thread for specific gear questions, and an entire other forum devoted to "newbie questions" like this, where you won't get people being dicks because they think you asked a stupid question.

As it stands, your question does kinda suck, because it's extremely vague. What kind of end-game do you do? What activities do you do on PLD? What gear can you reasonably obtain? I think most here would say that Aegis/Excalibur, Ares body, D.ring and Homam pieces are some of the "best" gear overall, but I doubt that answer would really help you, since if you're posting here asking, you *probably* don't have the means to obtain any of that. You'll get better answers if you can reformulate your question to be more specific.

But to answer the poster's questions:

Perfect pld

Idle set, with applicable swaps:
Main: Excal for low man straight tanking fights that you can provide a hit/proc ratio high enough to add enough damage to outweigh the emnity lost and DoT of Burtgang, use Burtgang for every other situation.
Sub: Aegis.
Valhalla Head (macro in kaiser head for straight tanking idle or Turban when using excal)
Valhalla Body (macro in Ares for refresh/general meleeing with excal, Hydra Haubert for emnity, Valor+1 for cover, Blood body for chivalry)
Shadow Mantle (macro in valor or cerb+1 for emnity, idle in cerb+1 if using excal, replace with boxers mantle if pld/rdm, Lamia mantle+1 for MDB build)
Trance Belt (macro in ninurta's/speed for flash/shadows)
Parade gorget (macro in Ritter for emnity, promise badge for chivalry)
Homam hands (macro in valor+1 for shield bash, hydra hands for emnity, though homam hands are a decent overall idle/emnity peice)
Homam legs (macro in hydra for emnity)
Homam feet (macro in valor for sentinal, af+1 for ichi/straight tanking)
Defending ring/Shadow ring
Ethereal earring
Loq./Hades+1/brutal/cassie/suppa
Lamia Kamin+1

The above doesnt include resist builds, MDB builds, and pure DD builds.

I wouldn't use shadow ring unless it was on darkdays. Occasionally having magic damage take 0 isn't that great since it don't proc very much. Sattva probably would be better.
