You're overestimating their impact on your line of hate. Or can you honestly say that helm had a noticeable impact on your survivability/enmity/ability to tank?

Liking or disliking chocolate is a rather simple opinion, it's personal preference and taste is subjective. Taking less damage through a better idle set, having less interrupts while casting through a better shield+ set, having shorter recasts through a better haste set, and having higher hate gain through a better enmity set are NOT subjective. Each of those is very clear cut, the math can be done to show what they give you.

It's not a fear at all. People are always so quick to point out "oh he must not trust his mages" or something similar. I feel I have some of the best mages on the server behind me, and I do sometimes, and it has absolutely nothing to do with that. It is purely a personal preference.

You trust your mages, so the downside is purely aesthetic, and an aesthetic that can be fixed by using an untraceable plugin. If you used blinkmenot and made sure to activate it on your favorite idle set, as well as added visible gear to your gear swap macros nothing would change for you besides your efficiency.

Nah it's really good hate, eliminates the need for cure swap completely. Just be sure to bring enough tools with you, you'll use alot at fafnir usually

You CAN do a full cure macro without blinking AT ALL. My cure III macro is like 360 HP, and doesn't even use every unblinkable slot.

And here's where people point out that we're just as lazy and not maxing our potential either, and they're right. But since its the internet they're blowing it way out of proportion in order to keep wasting time on this thread. But if its really important to you, I'll readily admit you guys are better FFXIers than I am.

I think we both agree there are advantages to gear swaps, our disagreement is how much. We can leave it at that since our cases have been submited, gl with everything you do.

Nor do I hold and ill will to you. Also I'm not recommending other players follow my example (I don't fully speak for Mero here either, as a note), and they should strive for more efficiency. As I look back on my FFXI play, theres plenty I can do to be more efficient/effective - for gods sakes I still rely on standard macros, something I do not endose for anyone.

I'm not about to play the 'its just a game' card, that would be pretty douchey. However I will say, from experience, that all our shell's PLDs have been able to hold excellent hate on all we kill without using visible gear swaps for most things (i.e. cures/flash/utsu, I know I swap for rampart/other less frequent things), and of course we make liberal use of the other 7 slots. And we do have some healer/support that either don't have that plugin or play on PC, and even though they can get around the blinking, I'd just as soon make a small sacrifice in effectiveness for a gain in their effectiveness/sanity. And since we have a fair number of people who do show up as tanks on different days (or other jobs on other days), I don't know how much of an imposition it would be on the support crew to manage that.

And I think part of it is that Merona has done quite a lot to get our tanks working and doing more to flex the the tools at their disposal. So its not fair when people accuse him of being lazy/inefficient, because I know from experience I hold much better hate after having updated my play style to our linkshell standards (so to speak) for PLDing. Yes, I'm sure there is slightly more to do, but knowing how solid the hate is on our fights (and you'll just have to trust me when I say we don't pansy around with our DD), I'm not worried about our tanking effectiveness.

I find wearing the prettiest gear fulltime makes a bigger impact on my performance than your 'useful' gear.

Hence why I wear:
durandal/terror shield
vhelm/ir gorget/cassie earring/intruder earring
Parade Cuirass/gallant gauntlets/jelly ring/hercules
gigant mantle/rse belt/lords cuisses/gallant leggings

No gear swaps and I keep hate entirely with ichi enfeebles.
