yes you can tank normal instances with dps tree, depends on how easy/hard the instance is for weapons, if i'm a few levels higher sometimes ill just 2hander it up and bladestorm for fun. i personally love arms, but some like fury, endgame instancing tho is all prot.

I like arms for PvP, I don't really have another good 2hander to try Fury for PvP though but I hear it's pretty beast.

I'm really excited for DK PvP though, I'm almost thinking Frost or Unholy will do real well, either one has some pretty serious magic damage mitigation, plus they both already have high armor. We'll see though

All that matters for tanking pretty much any instance pre-70 is health. Just have a huge health pool and you're fine. But to keep threat you'll probably need to be in defensive stance unless you're basically two-manning the place with a healer.

Rogue is a very safe bet right now. I wouldn't recommend warrior or priest to anyone who is easily frustrated.

Hunters are getting nerfs though aparently. Atleast for PvE.

Death Knight is fun and so far what oportunities I have had to PvP (mostly world PvP) vs. other plate classes I can rock most of them quite easily. It has the advantages of Paladin in that they can stay alive for a very long time due to heals, lots of armor and health, oodles of strength and the fact that death strike, one of your main DPS abilities does decent damage and heals you for 1.6k-2.8k (I'm only 68.. It'll probably be closer to 3-4k by the time I'm 80 I'm guessing)

As many people have said, Warriors are hella fun with a dedicated disc or holy priest at your side (ask your guildies, tell them they can leech all the honour they like, just install healbot) however if you lose your healer it can be frustrating. I've heard a lot of good things about arcane mages, 2 shotting clothies et cetera. But really, all it comes down to is who you're PvPing with. Guild PvPing is mostly easy as pie, just stick together, use vent and make sure people aren't idiots. Relying on others... Well, let's just say I don't PUG BGs if you know what I mean...

Boomkins can be great in what you (OP) are looking for. Strong nukes, high defense, and with the healing/spell power changes they can turn around and throw out massive HoT cures on themselves and keep going while getting hit. Add stealth capability, and you have a pretty powerful and not too often used class.

The healing/spell power change also gave elemental sham's a nice boost in that their heals now will scale with their gear too(shadow priest benefit from this also).

Hunter is still quite powerful, in BG's at least. I haven't had a chance to test it in arena as I had canceled my account before update changes became live and only reactivated after Wotlk.

There are more coming. Pet scaling looks a little on the broken side, with pets accounting for more than half of a hunter's dps.

I'm confused on what pet's are good for hunter and if I should level up a pet or just get a new one when I find one.

I've been using cat 10-80. I have a gorilla and scorpid sitting at 70 though, didn't use them much.

The pet changes over the last few patches have me seeing some pretty exotic choices, but mostly I'm still seeing the standard cat/gorilla/t-rex combo. I see the odd crab and bear here and there. Just pick your favorite, the damage differentials are within 3-5% of each other from the numbers I've seen.

Fury Warrior's fun for PvE and can work well in a team-based PvP environment but it lacks some of the tools in the Arms tree to cripple enemies effectively in PvP. To me at least, Fury PvP relies on assraping your target as hard as possible to get them dead before they can properly counterattack you with enfeebling moves. If it's 1-on-1 and you get stunlocked as then you're basically fucked.

At least in the early stages of 80 PvP where almost no one has resilience (outside of luck with Archavon drops), Arcane mages are absolutely raping face right now.

Just like the last weeks at 70, then?

Of course back then, pro 400res anything were getting face raped by abar, so I don't know if anything will be changing!

From what I've seen @ 80 so far (granted people still haven't really had time to gear up), abilities didn't quite scale up enough to catch up with the added HP of players, so everyone is definitely surviving longer, with the exception of Arcane mages, who are just completely demolishing everyone.
