Oh ok, just misunderstood what you were trying to say.
You misunderstand him. He said his conditions could be met without people on the boat, perhaps, and then the conditions to meet it would cycle again. For example, if it spawns after every 200 tickets purchased for a boat ride from Nashmau to Whitegate, the boat may leave after 199 tickets. Then someone purchases #200 while the boat is docked, but decides to not take the boat and warps instead, or just is AFK when it takes off. The NM would spawn, with nobody on the boat, then the condition would reset, requiring another 200 tickets be bought.
Round #1 gave us nothing, most of the alliance warped, a few of us went back to Nashmau (through other means than the boat) and are going to continue riding it for a little while. I'll keep you posted.
I have a feeling that if in fact it is soley passanger based, it'll be some extreme number to prevent a linkshell from spamming it, like 500+. That or probably a smaller number like 100 coupled with a link to Proteus (like LK/Argus) and a window (can't repop 36 hours after last Proteus/AA death).
Yeah, I could see Proteus being less and AA being more. That would blow. >_>
Food for thought about Proteus: I HAVE seen him double spawn. That is, he popped, my ls alliance killed him (boat to nash for einherjar), then he popped again (on the same boat ride) about 2 mins before we docked. Not enough time to get him down, but it was really unexpected.
Hey all, I work on pXI regularly, and I just wanted to point out how we get the NMs to appear.
Essentially, we go to the zone we want and take a "screenshot" of the mobs in the zone at the time. So, even the dead ones are still in the zone, just invisible. Next, once the database is filled, we format it so that they are all visible. So when you go on pXI, you should be able to see everything.
If there's some you can't see, try opening the database and checking to see if they are in there, but are set to status 7 or something. You have to subtract 6 and then save the changes, then reload the zone and they will be there.
If that doesn't work then hit us up on our website or IRC channel, maybe we can talk about it. See you around!
just throwing this out there, what if the "being left alone" has something to do with the regular apkallu's on the boat as well, as in feeding them fish and not killing them
I can confirm that he can spawn again immediately. We killed him once w/ a thf, no drop then he repopped less than 1min later and we killed again for a shark necklace i believe. He didn't repop the last 3-4mins and he was not on the at the beginning of the boat ride which he spawned ab 2-3 mins after take off. Ab Proteus btw
1.) not killing apkallu has already been tackled in a prior thread and debunked. the boat was ridden for hours and not 1 apkallu was seen to have been harmed and no pop. given this, we find the chance of this being the pop condition sufficiently slim to rule it out.
2.) none of the apkallus on the boat can have a green name. they are always yellow. thus, this theory can go into the jailer weapons traded to av pile.
as for the N number of tickets being bought placing him in window, i'm skeptical to buy this, though it's based on circumstantial evidence. this would require some kind of cross zone communication to occur. IE a flag from the nashmau zone being read by the ferry zone. to my knowledge outside of the sandworm and ixion pops, there are no mobs that maintain this kind of cross zone interaction. while obviously this is not solid evidence to debunk the ticket theory, this does make it less likely imo. on the other hand, the number of riders (or even unique riders perhaps) to ride the boat since his last pop reaching a threshold would not be unbelievable. there is evidence for a vaguely similar behavior in the dhalmel path of apollyon. more alliances brought into the zone triggers more pots groups to pop. while this behavior is obviously markedly different having no accumulation factor and being an instanced area, it does show that a not entirely dissimilar mechanism has been used by SE in the past.
I'd be inclined to try this since its a boring night, but not sure how easy it'd be to round up willing people on a serve the size of Midgardsormr <_<
while total riders from a variable is a really good theory, i think we can rule out unique riders... when charly had seen it pop both times, he had riding for hours with him and his mule, unless on the rides where AA popped there had been another new rider, then we can rule out a unique rider scenario.
this whole thing has regained my interest and i'll be heading for the boat soon to try and think up and test some new ideas lol![]()
From wiki:
If this is true, sounds like a depop spawn similar to rose garden. The Apkallu that spawns on the ferry from Whitegate to Nashmau will also despawn if left unclaimed.
The reason it hasnt been seen much is probably because so many people take this ferry and kill stuff on the deck while waiting to arrive.
At least that's what it looks like to me.
Have someone log at the WG > Nashmau ferry docks before a maint, tally people riding til Proteus spawns. Make note of the number of people who actually buy tickets as well, to account for the people who ride back from nashmau/warp after buying tickets/turn and zone back in.
If I had someone to ride the boat for me, I'd chill inside the docks while waiting for nyzul runs and count people, but I'd hate to just rely on asking riders if he pops.
