Depending on when it was, Montana had a law for awhile that basically made it so you could travel however fast you want, as long as it was reasonable and prudent. Depending on the conditions of the road you were on, and if your car was in shape you could haul balls everywhere. I want to say that they ended this in 1999 or 2000, but I'd have to look it up for sure.
There was an Arby's commercial where it showed the speed limits for different states and the idea was something like "how fast can you get to Arby's?". When it showed Montana, the speed limit sign spun and it said "No Speed Limit". They made a huge deal about it because it wasn't that there wasn't a speed limit, it was just all up to the officers discretion.
You're just lucky you didn't get a republican cop. I learned to NEVER, ever, put a polarizing bumper sticker on my car. I had a large Louisville Alumni decal on my back window, but took it off after I figured that there are just so many more UK fans around my area than UofL fans.
^ Guess I won't be visiting Georgia, either >_>
Hit a child at 40mph and there's an 80% chance they'll die. Hit a child at 30mph and there's an 80% chance they'll live. Leave earlier and obey the speed limit you fucking idiot.
QFT. I got a ticket back in high school (something like $290 for 72 in a 55, so yeah, you're a lucky fuck) and after I thought about it, I decided it really wasn't worth it. If you go fast enough to get anywhere substantially earlier, you're going to get tickets like that and potentially put your life and others at risk, and if you don't, why not just stick to the limit and get there 30 seconds later.
To add to it there were no cars on the street except me and him. He turned around to pull me over. It doesn't make it anymore right but its like theres no one to kill.
I didn't say I was the one who decides if its safe or not I'm just saying there was no one on that road at that time.
Children playing on the street = 80% chance that they deserve to be hit. Not saying going 60 on a serpentine school road isn't an asshole thing to do but driving the speed limit has often little to do with safe driving. Just another seatbelt/helmet law.
I do get pissed off over big fucking 10 mile long, 4 lane roads that are marked 40 or under -_-
Why?
I guess I've been lucky. I regularly do 75-90 (55 posted) on the highway to work. I've never been pulled over and only in one accident (not speeding, different road, different circumstance). I driving/ride within my limits, don't swerve in and out of traffic, and slow down where necessary, and trust my ability to maintain my car to avoid any mechanical failures that would cause an accident.
btw, I'm knocking on wood as I'm typing this.
Either way whats done is done. I have money to pay it and then some.
Yes, but even if you're a good enough driver in a good enough car to handle 90 in a 55, other cars and other people are not equipped to handle you going this speed, and don't expect someone to be driving like that. Even when you're within your own limits, you are still creating unnecessary risks for yourself and everyone around you.
People always uneccesarily speeding is one of those things that really bugs me. an ex bf was really bad at it, i dont think i ever knew him to be UNDER the speed limit and the more he got away with it the faster he would go. in the end i just wouldnt go in the car when he was driving.
Then he got stopped one night for doing 90+ in a 60 zone and i wouldnt give him any sympathy and he broke up with me lol.
