    serious video card issues...

OK, I upgraded my video card from a Radeon x1950 XT to an EVGA Geforce GTX 260. I uninstalled all ATI drivers, and installed the EVGA Precision software, and the latest nvidia drivers. Now while in FFXI, the game tends to lock up for 10 seconds or so and comes back with the following graphics...

im at a loss... this particular picture was on my screen for at least 20 minutes, and it finally gave me enough of a headache to close out FFXI. When I restart the game, everything is fine but eventually the same thing happens, and i get these random graphical errors.

More crazy pictures can be found here: Index of /other/videocard

any help would be appreciated. I play other high tier games such as RA3, Crysis and Fallout 3 with full framerate, so im convinced its isolated to FFXI.

Google DirectX and get the latest.
Try it with ALL settings on low?
Did you try Nvidia drivers? GeForce GTX 260

What version of Direct X are you running anyways right now? IIRC anything 8.0+ is compatible with FFXI/Playonline.

I figured it might be Emikoo's UI, so I did a check files for the hell of it. I have also reinstalled Directx 10 (latest), and I'm going to reinstall the latest Nvidia drivers now. Lastly I also dumbed down the graphics. Ill play for awhile and see if this happens now.

Does anyone else have a friend with the same video card? Yesterday I did try running without the overclocking software enabled, but the same thing happened so that was not it.

as for the summoner, half of the linkshell has her blacklisted by now. we just refer to her as "special". try dealing with staff swapping macros, stupid fucking summoner macros like that one, and ill let you guess what "My body is now as hard as stone" is. oh, and she also roleplays. every time she says fuck she either types "????ers" or "f???ers".

Edit: The exact card i have is here

Ok so the above did not fix my problem. the same shit is still happening..

I do run ffxi on an HDTV, which worked flawlessly with my old card.

I had a similar problem with F.E.A.R. Every time I would load up the game, it was fine till I got to a somewhat crowded area and then everything would fall to shit. The way I fixed it was I uninstalled my current drivers at the time, used Driver cleaner then re-installed an older driver. So as I got on, I never had any other problems.

That looks like either a driver or a heat problem.. I believe there's a certain older driver that should work, but forgot which one (I think it's something like 179.74?). Look around in one of the other threads (try here first if you have Vista) for similar problems and solutions.

If it's a heat thing (which is possible since that card says it's an overclocked edition), try either cranking up the fan on the GPU or reducing the overclock a bit. Or maybe a case airflow issue?

I don't use vista on this PC, and I dont think its a heat problem... the GPU is running around 52 celsius, and CPU around 40~ pretty much all the time. Thats not hotter than normal is it? Ill try cranking up the gpu fan. It cools down the card pretty well

    Ill try Driver cleaner later

From my experience..... FFXI hates 2 things....

    Vista
    Geforce

I went from using a Vista 32bit OS with a Geforce 7900, upgraded to a Radeon 4870 and it went from graphics like yours to flawless. Yes i know the 4870 is a muuuuuuuch better card, but change to a Radeon and i bet the problem goes away

EDIT: I could not find any drivers, New Old or Beta that fixed my 7900

I downgraded to 177.23 drivers and everything seems fine. I went through dyna-tav, sandworm, and salvage normally so it seems 180 drivers are evil. Too bad i cant take advantage of the new features in those though. thanks for the help.

Your temps are actually pretty damn good. My GPU (the new one) idles at 68°C without overclocking and a 12cm fan blowing right over the top of it.
