Because someone who's been raped by their father and fathered his children will certainly be a rational thinker and mentally capable of protecting themselves, right? Not to mention the physical violence they suffered if they refused him which for all they know could have escalated into something worse if they fought back or tried to leave. But by all means, shift some blame to the victims.

Did you read the article? He physically abused them by burning their vital organs (eyes and arms). They also had children they were trying not to endanger and keep. It's a pretty complicated situation and you overestimate the human psyche, you can only take so much abuse for so long before you become accustomed to it and stop fighting it without an outside source to tell you how wrong it is. I'd be interested to see how it came to light because I highly doubt it was one of them coming for help, it was probably unintentional.

edit: reported in June this year by the daughters according to CNN but I am sure there was something pretty significant to trigger it, like the social workers they visited finally mentioning something to them.

Like I said before, there must have been some fucked up circumstances. I'm not overestimating the human psyche, it's horrible what has happened but for it to continue for 27 years, childbirths and all, is just plain dumbfounding. The statement after the incident and that they rang in to report it tells me this could have happened sooner rather than later. Not everyone has the capacity to deal with this situation, mostly because they're young and don't know any better. But for it to continue on this long, yeah, I can't help but blame the victims for this as well. Not for getting raped, but for letting it go on so long. This could be out of line, but I can't feel much sympathy for these people. It may be weird, but it actually makes me angry that something like this could go on for so long on both sides.

I can understand your point but I would suggest being non vocal about that point of view because it's inhumane and reeks of misogyny to be frank.

While blaming the victims may seem like a logical conclusion, to say they have any burden on the situation is a bit off. It's the same mentality that rules the mid 90's where a rape victim was "blamed" for provoking the rapist and often left, unsympathetically, on her own with the child.

Additionally, it's very doubtful that these women were capable of contacting others regularly, or otherwise seeking help. The one who made a phone call was likely very fortunate to have that opportunity. Considering how abusive their father was when they tried to resist, this does not sound like a case where they were allowed to come and go as they pleased nor able to do whatever they wished in the house. Further, if they risked themselves and died as a result, no one would be there to tend to the children they were obviously trying to protect.

I think you can still get sentenced to hang in the UK if it's for Treason.

Treason? Oh aye, I can see how often that would be used ¬_¬ Stupid government. I've always been behind the opinion that if there is infallible evidence that someone is guilty of a heinous crime that strips the victim of life/dignity/innocence etc, they should get a punishment as equally vicious in return. But no, "life" in prison is all we can give them, and theres almost a guarantee that they'll get out waaaaaaay before then.
