I can't believe matt ryan was brought up in an MVP discussion. jesus christ, he's not even the most valuable player on his team.

He's doing his job without a primary target, and distributing the ball well. That says a lot about who the talent in the equation is. But while he's doing a good job of that, he's not putting up wtf numbers and is getting helped by a great running game.

Romo on the other hand, wasn't there for 1/4 of the full season (1/3 at the moment). While I agree his return shows merit to his skill, I just don't believe you can be the most valuable player if you weren't playing.

I find this year very hard to pick a clear cut contender. If ether Brees or Warner play relatively mistake free in the next few games, I would lean more in their direction. As far as running backs go, it's just as hard to measure. AP wins by yards, but Turner has 4 more TD's than AP and less fumbles.

Too many Vikings touchdowns inside the 5 haven't gone to Peterson. It's like Varsity Blues shit out there; give it to your workhorse. However, the fumbles you bring up make a good point. They come with the way he runs, but they aren't an attractive stat. But if he keeps up his current numbers for 4 more games (and same with Turner/Portis/Jones) I think the MVP should go to a RB, not a QB.

If your team couldn't win any games without him, what difference does it make?

Neither is Eli, or Kurt Warner yet they are still there. AP and Brees would be the exceptions to this.

I guess on the MVPish front, ROTY, Matt Ryan vs. Matt Forte?

Ryan, because of the innate QB advantage.

I'd pick Warner (assuming they don't continue the slide they're on now) or Michael Turner for MVP atm. I honestly see Turner as the reason that team's offense turned around, and Matt Ryan as benefiting from the run. Warner is kinda obvious, but only because a WR corp can't win an MVP.

It's a shame Brees doesn't have as much support around him, or he'd actually look much better. He can't get an MVP solely because he breaks a 20 year record. It's gotta be reflected in the W/L column for it to mean anything, and that unfortunately hasn't happened this year.

For coach of the year I might argue between Sparano, Harbaugh and Mike Smith. That might just come from seeing them come in the first year and have so much success though. Fisher's probably gonna get it though, based on the record this season.

Bears bias aside, I'm in between. Ryan's playing great and the turnaround the Falcons made in one year is kinda nuts, but Forte is 5th in the NFL in rushing, has 200~ less yards than Turner but has taken 34~ less attempts, has pretty much been the entire backbone of the offense, leading the team in receptions aside from the rushing, and tied for the 4th most TDs in the league.

Forte certainly isn't undeserving of ROTY, but people are all over Matt Ryan. The Vick drama, the record-breaking contract, his performance, the team's record... the Ryan for ROTY hype is almost insurmountable. Poor Forte has only a slim shot, but he is ridiculously good.

Yeah that's where the 'value' definition gets fuzzy, lol. Which is more valuable to the team, the guy who is their #1 workhorse on the field, or the guy who is helping the city forget about the whole Michael Vick drama.

Never said Eli and Warner weren't dumb picks for MVP either. Before last week, you could have made an argument for Jacobs with the way he's been abusing defenses all year.

This is very true, one could easily make that case.

Just a side note/gripe: Every time the Bears haggle with a player over money, regardless of what they do it turns out shitty. If they pony up and give them a fat new contract, that player immediately disappears like Hester/Urlacher/Harris, and doesn't play half as well as they did before they got paid. If the Bears say fuck it and let the player go, that player lights shit up on whatever team they end up on, then when that team inevitably comes back to play Chicago they light the Bears the fuck up too. Shit's annoying.
