So I'm keeping Frost for farming and such and want to Dual-Spec for instances and PUGs, do I go with a FFB spec being that I'm new to "end-game" or try my hand at the Arcane build?

I agree with the others, its just not worth it to try and make the socket-bonuses since they very very rarely pay off in the end. just get blue gems for your meta, which I assume in your case is Relentless Earthsiege, so just a nightmare tear.
There's enough stam on most gear and you get a good chunk from buffs, so you won't get instagibbed by anything, so counting it specifically as a pve stat for a rogue is a waste of time.
Is there much point in coming back? i quit a few months back, made some progress in ulduar but nothing significant im not sure how much i've missed and with IC coming up i'd like to see what its like but im unsure how easy it'd be to get up to a good standard for raiding again.
not much point, no. i'd wait till cata. toc is very short, and the sound files for ICC are leaked, so you can see where the plot is going there. Gearing up is kind of pointless with cata looming ever closer. (i'm basing that on the assumption lvl 85 gear will be of vast difference than our current lvl 80 gear). ICC is continuing to use stats that will be nixxed in cata, so it's up in the air if icecrown loot will even be applicable at Cataclysm's endgame. How they plan to redistribute ilvl points on gear they take stats like mp5 and arpen away from is anyone's guess.
Arcane is the best raiding build currently apart from select fights where you'll be using a lot of AOE (FFB on Anub'arak hardmode for instance). Not only that but FFB sucks till you have a decent crit rate so go with Arcane and stack lots of haste and sp.
I don't see why not. You can do ToC10 to get geared up as long as you have Emblem of Conquest gear. I'd imagine it's nice to have that gear for leveling from 80-85 too.
The likelihood of Cata coming within 6 months of ICC is quite low. The likelihood that ICC is coming within the next month is also low. There's still a good bit of time before Cata comes out. Blizzard doesn't release stuff before it's ready, they won't be rushing Cata out there to compete with FFXIV or anything.
On the subject of arcane mages, I saw on here somewhere the correct rotation but now I cant find it. 4 AB > AM regardless of missile barrage proc with arc barrage used if you have to move? Yay or nay?
Edit: Worth using frostbolt on viable targets before AM for TTW?
TTW includes any sort of slowing effect including Icy Touch. It should be up 100% of the time really. For rotation, if you can afford the mana:
AB (at least 4 times) until MB proc then AM. ABarrage only if you have to move.
If you can't afford the mana then it's simply:
AB4>AM.
What does a Hunter typically choose for an off-spec if BM is their primary?
So assuming no mana issues AB until missile barrage proc then missiles. Gracias
For the hunter question, if you are dead-set on keeping BM as a spec then SV or MM doesn't really matter. MM does however require very specific gear and gems to support it to its fullest (ArP + and ArP trinket usually). If you can't reach the ArP cap then SV is the safest bet.
Yeah BM is basicly shit as a raid spec nowadays sadly. How I miss the bygone days of yore where I could spam the fuck out of steady shot all night lol. If you're just starting back into the raid scene then SV is the way to go probably. The hunter spreadsheet from elitest jerks is actually pretty good and is updated fairly regulary if you want to mess about with that.
Who needs a spreadsheet when you have Zeherah's Hunter DPS Analyzer
(it actually *is* the spreadsheet, just in a web engine)
So I just hit 80 on my rogue and I've been lurking various forums trying to figure out exactly what to do, and I've seen lots of things that scare me. I'm perfectly aware of the fact that I'm far from geared, and from the way the wow forums make it sound, that means I'll never get to do anything dungeon wise because of gearscore and such. Due to this I've been shying away from even trying to do dungeons and stuff and just have been focusing on Ebon Blade and Hodir rep grinding while trying to do some argent tournament stuff to get some vendor upgrades, but I would like to do more. I've joined one ToC group and really enjoyed it, so I'd love to be able to jump into more content like that, but I'm unsure as to how I'll know when my gear is up to snuff. I'm in mostly quest blues/greens with a few regular ToC purples thrown in as it is now. Hitting 80 in WoW seems so much more overwhelming than it was in FFXI, but its probably just because I joined the game later in its life.
Oh and one more question on gemming/enchants that hopefully some of the resident rogues here might be able to help with. I just got my first few purples with sockets, and I know I'm above the specials hit cap but below poisons. As a mut rogue, Is it worth gemming hit to get there, or should I just go straight agi/ap and just wait for more gear? Same question with expertise basically- I know 26 is capped, but is that worth gemming for or am I better just waiting for upgrades to worry about that? Also, when is it expected to have top end enchants/gems in gear? I know how big of a difference it can make, but I figure with the gear I have now not much of it, if any, will I have for a long enough time to warrant dumping a ton of gold on enchants. Any advice as far as that goes? Thanks for all the help, and sorry for the long post.
As far as gearing up, a fresh 80 can make great use of Trollwoven Girdle, Spaulders and TS Shanker+Librarian's Paper Cutter(x2 even) right off the AH or a crafterfriend. Although that might be a bit expensive, they're likely massive upgrades without ever having to be judged by anyone's arbitrary standards on gear. As far as still having greens goes - if you still have green armors (read as visible gear), even pieces of the eviscerator's set will be an upgrade for you, and those are fairly cheap afaik. Gear doesn't matter nearly as much as your ability to perform in it. If you can pull even 2k on bosses, you'll be absolutely fine pug-farming heroics, which will net you tremendous gear-upgrades from both the emblems and the occasional boss drop.
The trinkets which give you Mana/Rage/Energy etc when you kill an enemy that gives XP or Honour, is the description literal or does it just mean you need to fight shit that cons green and above at 80 to have a chance at the proc?
Also how the fuck do BG queues work now? Still can't get in anywhere.
