But if you're going to give up an MMO look into abandoning the game genre entirely. Not kidding.
I can't say this is entirely unsound advice. I have enough console games to last the entire span of all the MMOs I've played combined, and that's not even counting the multiplayer modes within those. You can even get socially involved thanks to the co-op modes and competitive events that go on regularly.

If you're seriously looking to get out of XI, just try going without; I think you'd be surprised how not-bored you'll be.

Excluding super endgame HMs, WoW, I feel, is a lot easier than ffxi. I find it a lot more fun than ffxi too, since you can always do something. You can't log in ffxi for 20mins and get something notably accomplished, but in wow you can get something done. Getting gear is REALLY easy in WoW (again excluding hardmode super crazy stuff), which is good and bad at the same time I guess. Idk, ffxi I felt a lot more accomplished when I got something opposed to WoW.

I miss FFXI a lot. Not for the game so much as the people and the events with those people. FFXI has a way of keeping your goals list lengthy, and really pushing you to keep at it.

However, WoW's content is much easier to pick up in short bursts, and then put back down again. I remember logging on for 2-3 hours on FFXI and just ending the session feeling like I got nothing done. WoW is a lot more in the way of instant gratification.

*edit* This is also my third time picking up WoW, and the longest I've played. I have a number of friends in my guild, most of them former FFXI players from my old linkshell. The people count for a lot in any MMO.

    this! this! this!

I left ffxi for wow. I think it started when I did a comeback and went "ok, where the fuck are all of my addons" and after that it just went downhill in how old the game felt.

lol I was gonna write something and you just nailed it word by word.

edit: but Im still gonna drop wow when ff14 comes out cause I just have a fonder feeling for the FF-type of game

In all honesty, during my almost 6 year playing the game has gotten to be pathetic and ridiculous with things they should have taken care of years ago. Also, the reason for me tempting to play wow is that an old friend of mine explains every detail about wow. I also was attractive that I‘ll able to travel by air (I was like holy shit that’s hot)

Other things like teleporting and been able to go places without spending 3 hours to get to somewhere(sarcasm comment but the way.) Also, most everyone I know is playing wow. I guess the only thing is holding me back is all the work I have done. But then I reminisce the exciting conversation I had with my old friend about wow and they way she told her adventures on wow just won my fully attention.

    Yeah…

Although , I really want to be able to ride phoenix…

Ironically, I'm running into my XI-isms when I play wow; the normal mode content just isn't satisfying, and not having people willing to try hardmodes (without severely overgearing it or such) is depressing, heh.

    Few question about paladin.

#1 Brewfest trinket or Def trinket from triumph badges. I know it was discussed over the last few pages, but I'm still not sure.

#2 In the following situation, what should I do? Onyxia is at 41%, range dps are nuking her down and there is a bunch of adds out. Should i ignore the adds and go for onyxia, or get the adds anyway. It happened earlier, and it felt like a no win situation for me.

#3 a)In any MT situation, if there is unwanted adds on me, should I slack on AoE and generate less threat, or it's entirely the offtank job to get them off me.
    b) If you're off tank, what's the best way to get add of your tank. Righteous Defense seem dangerous on certain boss that cant be turned.

FFXI = if you don't play for friend, just quit. You're addicted to the game, and it's not healthy
WoW = weaker drugs out of the two...you can quit it any time, and you probably dont want to go back to FFXI after.

About your pc, i dont know what video card you have, but it sound like what I had. You will be able to play the game with minimum setting. Until then, just try the demo and see if you like it

Extra stick of ram and you would have no issues whatsoever running it on healthy settings.

    1) Keep both around, but generally use the armor trinket. Heavy magic fights or max health fights switch to double stam.

    2) If you're the MT you go be the MT.

    3) a- Depends on the situation on if the adds do something special that'll hurt melee (AOE/cleave/etc.) and if it'll hurt you (like Anub adds and their debuff), if either is the case, slack on threat as much as you can
b- Hand of reckoning if they're big scary adds and just wait for it to be up for another, go build as much threat as you can on them, if they're hurting him, hand of/divine sacrifice the tank to help keep him alive, 2pc t9 helps here.

    More questions

    4) Which addon should I use to keep track of threat?

    5) to keep track of my own buff and important debuff (most addon I used were hard to customize)

    6) Any good addons for raid buff (deal with class that require different buff depending of their spec)

I've never used anything but Omen for threat tracking.

I don't think there's a one size fits all buff/debuff manager, I've used EBB since forever and just got used to the lousy config.

Both Big Brother and oRA2 track missing buffs on people but I don't know that they're individually smart enough to distinguish between specs 'hay that feral druid doesn't have AI.'

Eagle covered stuff pretty well, but I'll chime in, too.

    Depends what you're doing.

ToC10 normal? Armor trinket, period, unless you're really undergeared.
ToC10 heroic? I'd generally switch to the armor trinket when you have about 39k unbuffed without it.
ToC25 normal? 37-38k unbuffed is good enough.
ToC25 heroic? You can figure it out on your own if you're at that point.

For Jara and Twins I stick with double stam, even on normal modes, and I'm at 40k unbuffed without stam trinkets.

In ICC, nothing is hitting hard enough to threaten a reasonably geared tank on the normal modes so far, so definitely armor.

Don't solo tank Ony, it's not worth it, the fight is too easy with 2.

see eagle's reply, you'll almost never use RD to pull stuff off a tank, just hor and build hate asap

and yeah for the adds on you as MT, don't worry about it unless they're dangerous

    I use Omen.

I just use Xperl and make the size of my own buffs smaller so I can see if I have everything.

PallyPower? It's essential for paladins. And you can technically set for different 10min blessings for members of another spec within a class. Not sure how it works with the easy clicking on PP though. But really, this isn't a big issue. As prot you shouldn't have improved might and most of the time there's a shaman dropping mana spring, so you're mainly on kings or sanc only.

yeah I love PallyPower. bring up a window when there are multiple pallys in the group and sort out every class, then just leftclick the class for the 30mins or rightclick for the 10mins (since you cant put 2 seperate 30mins on the same class)
