Skinning is free to level but time consuming.

Everything else is going to cost a decent amount either in actual gold spent or in opportunity cost of the time spent gathering mats yourself; tailoring would be the next easiest though as you can gather the cloth yourself rather than having to rely on another toon to gather them.

Skinning is by far the easiest profession to level in the game. Hands down no question nothing competes with it. And it's easily a money maker too.

So what's the easiest way to get heroics tanking gear for my DK (instant queues ftw :D) that won't make healers ragequit on me?

Was thinking full runed+crusader orb gear for a good leaping off point but I have no idea if that's enough...is there a set like the oldschool felsteel gear?

I say snag a healer and/or tank friend, and just queue as DPS along with them, and snag all of the epic tanking loot that may drop. Grab 2-3 pieces of either tier or off-tier pieces, along with saronite swordbreakers, and you're good to spam Normal TOC/ICC instances on your own (sans help). Once those are more or less farmed out for you, you're good for random heroics.

Unfortunately, you answered your own question. Buying the runed and crusader gear is your best bet (I wouldn't suggest Saronite items, since they lack Defense Rating, something you're going to scrounge for early on) Epic Gems will help greatly, but there's nothing you can do other than hope for some good healers and people who don't mind running a 3.5K GS Tank in Blues / minor epics through heroics. You will most likely have ignorant people who lol and quit on you, but thats the best part about being a tank, just re-que and 5 seconds later you try again.

Get the wrathful PvP bracers and put the +40stam enchant on them. Huge increase in health, will keep you uncrit while you gather a full set of defense gear and helps threat and such.

How much hit rating does a Mage need in PvP? I kinda assume that +3% Hit from talents +3% hit from Misery and +1% hit from Draenei is enough but hey better safe than sorry.

Pretty sure everyone just needs 5% hit in PvP, unless you're fighting a class/spec that has some spell miss.

Certain races have 2% miss chance for a particular school of magic, so you'll need 6% hit against certain races.

I personally go for the 6% spell hit cap to be safe. Lots of people say they run with 4% and never get bothered by misses, but I experience crucial misses all the time when I go under 6%.

Certain specs have an additional 4% miss chance, I believe it's ret, boomkin, rogue, and mage. I'm not certain if you can overcome that with hit gear(I tried running 10% hit in season 5 and I still missed, but some people have said it got changed since then), but the general consensus is that it wouldn't be worth it anyways.

Not sure where Norellicus is getting his information, but one spell pen gem is definitely not enough. Paladin auras give 130 resistance, so you need 130 spell pen. Getting the spell pen offhand and wand allow you to switch to a different offhand and wand if the opposing team doesn't have any resistance buffs, this is especially common this season because the offhands only cost 300 points. Improved mark of the wild gives 75 resistance, so you want to aim for 75 spell pen as a bare minimum. To give you an idea of how important spell pen is, 130 resistance is roughly 30% resist chance.

You shouldn't rely on Misery for hit because it won't be on every target at all times. So if you're trying to CC a healer you could screw yourself with a miss.

Honestly though, you should be fine with 3% from talents and 1% from draenei, it just depends on how serious you want to get. You'll only miss 2% frost spells vs dwarves, 2% arcane vs gnomes, and 2% all magic vs blood elves.

Yeah 4% so far has worked very well but just looking at tweaking my Arena gear since its pretty bad right now. I was planning on Wand+Gems+Cloak enchant to get 130 Spell Pen exactly, I kinda already bought the Haste OH though so too late for that. So basically 6% hit to be safe, I'll do that.

Belt is BiS. Hands can drop in VoA so I'd get that last. Get shoulders 2nd.

Was wondering if people could offer up some help with my PvP gear. I run Shadow Priest + Mage so generally I never get focused, would be comfortable sitting at around 700-800 resil maybe even 600. Mainly looking for PvE items I can throw in there.

Plans: Getting Meteor Chasers Raiment in 30 badges, hence switch to Relentless shoulders over Titan-forged. Belt and Wand will be replaced with Wrathful of each (spell pen wand). Since I imagine keeping my 4 piece is a good idea I was thinking PvE gear in Neck/Wrists/Waist/Ring1. Also any trinket ideas as mine is terrible (Can't get reign).
