Iunno about that, I've always been able to match threat to someone who was ahead of me in threat by taunting if they're between your threat and target change threat level...
That being said, I've only ever had to do it a few times, and always late enough that server latency may have merely accounted for it looking like mob never left me, but indeed did leave me then come right back, so take my experience for what you will
Holy crud WoW 101 in hurr.
Taunt has two components. First, it forces the monster to fixate on you for ~3 seconds. During this period, nothing can pull it away, except maybe another taunt.
Second, it equalizes your threat to be 100% of the #1 entry on the threat table. This is the only means by which it directly generates threat. If you are already the #1 on the table, this technically means it does nothing. The only time you'll appreciably see a threat bump from it is when you get an rdps who's really good at riding the 100-130 range, or when you lose aggro entirely.
Note that this only makes you 100% of the current #1 threat entry; you as a tank need 110% of the current global #1 threat to actually retain aggro. If you fail to make up that 10% in the 3 seconds of the taunt, the mob will shift right back to whoever that #1 person was before once the debuff wears off.
Taunts are subject to diminishing returns so should be used as sparingly as possible, generally speaking.
Also: IT spam really isn't that amazing a threat lead over a proper rotation, but is noticeably lower dps, which can be bad since even tank dps contributes a not-insignificant amount of damage to boss kills.
So my observations were correct and not just a server lag thing the few times I've needed to bother? Good, I don't like observations being wrong <_<;
I believe confusion in this area is where taunt spells (at the very least, Dark Command) says 'has no effect if the target is currently targetting you'
Kind of a misnomer, the taunt's logic still takes place I'm pretty sure but it doesn't actually do anything since you're already at the top of the list.
Yeah I wasn't entirely sure on that part, I know we've had accidental taunts go off in raids and I guess I just instinctively know to wait 3s before trying to take it back (or the other tank stops generating threat on it so I get the lead back).
Is there a way to track dot's w/ the basic UI (no addon's whatsoever) w/o needing to watch the mobs debuffs under the frame target?
There's an interface option that lets you filter down to only what you can cast, but I don't think you can customize it beyond that.
thanks, ill give it a try. No addon's for alpha will take some getting used to (mainly no bar mods and a dot timer of sorts)
Is it possible to DAT swap like ffxi on wow? I want to change what some weapons look like to another model.
Not exactly. You have to compile custom MPQs (these are like .DAT files but bigger and containing lots of files for different things). It should be easy to find a guide for this via google or you can download ones other people have made which you just put in your Data folder and you're done.
Weapon swapping is completely different and is done via either a program (Glitchy's Model Swapper is awesome for all equipment) or hex editing your itemcache. Again, this should be really easy to find with google.
It's also completely against the TOS, which I'm not sure how much it was in XI.
Does Blood Boil generate significant threat? I'm looking for a way to get aggro in five man heroics when the dps are impatient and pull before my D&D cooldown is up
Whenever I tank on my DK, I just DnD, IT PS Pest, blood tap -> blood boil, and then tab around mobs. If there's a lot of mobs then instead of heartstrike I spam Blood boil and no one ever takes threat.
Is there some site with all the BiS gear for Hunter and/or Paladin? I r lazy.
