Right off the bat I sure don't want to turn this into anything resembling final fantasy vs. WoW. I was an avid XI player who quit and is waiting for XIV. However, in the 6ish months until it comes out I'll be pretty bored.

    Random question:

How much of the game can I experience during that 6 months? Is it not worth it to even pick up if I have that small of a window to play in? Or is the progression curve low enough that I would actually be able to do a lot of things by the time 6 months is up?

I'm pretty sure that when XIV is ready I'll jump ship. If for no other reason than for friends I know will be there. I would probably play a healing class in WoW if that helps in the assessment and probably wouldn't fool with the WoW equivalent of crafting as I got totally burned out maxing several XI mules.

You can do a lot in WoW during 6 months, crafting is a lot faster here, can power level your crafts in 1 day, maybe 2-3 if you have to wait for mats on ah, if you are new in a month should be able to hit 80 or faster, depend how much time you have to spend, can get decently geared to start raiding in 1-3 weeks after that, i'd say give it a chance, 6 months is plenty of time.

Oh and almost forgot. What would I need to buy? I'm assuming a lot of the old titles are consolidated?

You can experience a decent portion. Depending on playtime you could easily get to max level and get a solid amount of gear to get into raiding and doing end-game activities.

WoW crafting is easy and in some ways profitable. You get 2 professions per character and there are 3 "gathering" professions, all of which cost you nothing to level except time (and compared to FFXI, it doesn't really cost any amount of time) and make you money while giving you benefits (you get a heal if you're an herbalist, you get stamina if you mine, you get crit if you skin). Just choose a gathering profession and you'll be good.

I'd recommend shaman or priest for an early healing class, just because druids can't dps for beans as resto and paladin healing is forever boring.

Just go download the free trial and go from there.

I've personally been 80 for almost 4 months now, and already 10/12 on icc10. So you can explore quite a bit within 6 months easily, just need to find the right people to do it with.

You can get Vanilla + Burning Crusade in one box, but WotLK is still sold separately.

You can also download the above from blizzard directly IIRC.

In 70 days playtime on paladin, I've done literally everything with the exception of high end 25man content and pvp arena. Even if you level really slow, you should hit 80 in less than 2 months I'm taking a wild guess, but it's around 2-3 hour per level probably if you grind casually (do it at your own pace exploring the game). At 80, it will takes 2-3 weeks to ge you started for endgame.

Anyway, the game is meant to be played casually. You will be able to do a lot even if you play a little. For endgame raiding, as long you can play 3 hours in a row, you shouldnt have any issue with pick up group. They never last longer. For 5men content, 30min is all you need.

I've been looking around for Addons that would be able to tell me when certian buffs are applied to me from melee/abilitys (Killing Machine, Rime, HoW, ect, ect) but I've been unable to find Addons that work properly, the closest I got to finding what I wanted was Tell Me When but it never picked up the buffs, after multiple attempts of trying to get it to work just finally gave up on it.

How do you want to be notified of the proc events? Timer bars? Giant Icons? Sounds? Different addons solve your problems in very different ways.

What the hell? How am I randomly flying in loops? I can't stop.

I was just flying along and picking flowers, when it started, and now I can't stop.

If you press either insert/del/page up/page down they make you fly in loops. I'm hungover and can't remember what one exactly and I'm feeling to rough to log in right now >:3

Anyone got any idea on how long (currently) it takes GM's to send items to the right person if they were "mislooted" in raid?

Last I remember was 2-3 days, wondering if anyone has gone through this recently. I know it's rare since most items are tradeable in raids now.

Last time it happened to me before they allowed temp trades of those items it took 1-3 days, depends on how quickly you get a GM I guess, ours was instant as soon as he verified but it took us 3 days to get a GM cause of log in times etc

Tell me when is great for this. It's what I use. I'll show you how to configure how to track killing machine and rime procs. (It's what I use it for lul)

First, right click one of the squares when you load tellmewhen (/tmw).
2nd, click "Choose spell/item/debuff etc" and type in the appropriate name. (Killing Machine, or Freezing Fog)
    3rd, check enable Icon.
4th, set icon type to buff/debuff.
5th, a new line will appear and it will say "Buff or debuff?" clock it and select buff.
6th, clock unit it to watch, and set it to player.
7th, then click show when buff/debuff and select "Present"
    8th, click Show Timer
    9th, ???
    10th, Profit
