There's a need for every job in the game. While a tank or healer is in higher demand at times, there isn't nearly the whole "SAM or gtfo" as dps or anything of the sort, so whatever class you choose you can generally play.
With only one class per toon you can hide the fact that you have anything else if needed too. At least until battle.net upgrades but whatever. It's not really an issue like in FFXI.
People only have multiple 80's typically cause they are bored or something. Sometimes when you have so much gear on your main char, you just want a change of scenery, so people level or try different roles.
No need to have multiple classes. In raids and endgame you pretty much play that main character 100% of the time aside from alt runs and things like that. Since so many classes can heal, so many can dps, and so many can tank, it really doesnt matter what you pick as long as you play what you enjoy.
I made 10 80's mainly to have each one have a different profession, that way I don't have to go buy/find someone to get a certain craft/enchant/glyph etc.
I mean.. why would I buy a glyph on AH for 40-50g when I can go .. on an alt and farm it up or buy the mats to make the glyph for like 2-3g?
So I just hit 80 on my warrior and was doing some playing around with future gearsets, from what I've been told its not worth gemming ARP till you have 60% passive, not sure if thats true. Looking at the best set of gear I can get without any raiding/frost badges I'm sitting at 47% (95% with NES proc). Should I gem ARP at that point? The gear I'm looking at is:
Helm of Thunderous Rampage
Broach of the Wailing Night
Pauldrons of Trembling Rage
Accursed Crawling Cape
Titanium Razorplate
Titanium Spikeguards
T9 Hands
Belt of Titans
T9 Legs
Blighted Leather Footpads
Band of Stained Souls
Dextrous Brightstone Band
Banner of Victory
Needle Encrusted Scorpion
Tyrannical Beheaderx2
Crimson star
If anyone has any advice for gear better than any of that I can get pre raiding it would be appreciated. Since I will probably start saving for Shadow's Edge right away I won't be able to grab up Wodins/Rotting Sinew/Quel'delar sadly.
Also what should be my priority for frost badges? HKT? AGI cape? T10?
That is correct let me correct.
ArP = 0.0715% ArP.
So
X * .0715 = ArP %
You can count how many sockets you have and how much ArP you have from gear and do the math.. I would say it's worth gemming ArP if you can get a total of 1259 ArP which is 90%. Also Hearty Rhino and ArP pots works wonders... If you're cooking its very easy farming mats to make Hearty Rhinos.
Hope this helps. Banner is a good choice I personally don't like softcapping with NES. So when you find a better trinket go ahead and replace unless you can get Grim toll...
A couple of things, I was going to make a new thread but got scared despite the low activity =p
Is there a "database" of major fuck ups/drama/events/"world kills"/and recently, impossible solos (Patchwerk)? i.e. in 2005 I remember grabbing a video of someone kiting Kazzak to some town and it was basically unkillable, then there's the leeroy incident, and of course, Onyxia Wipe, and then I recall someone killing LK or something as a world first using some exploit, and very recently the Patchwerk Rogue Solo.
Basically looking for something extremely well known/popular events that happened rather than small stuff.

How significant exactly are level increases? I was reading that Onyxia was hard for 40 Level 60 players, but a level 70~ can solo it (since the cap got raised). Having played FFXI a while ago I still think a level increase in FFXI is not too significant since a level 65 mob can still pwn you 1v1 at 70 if not paying attention, and that's only a normal mob (i.e. a Rabbit in the Tree) where as I believe Onyxia was some sort of boss/hard mob/HNM or equivalent. To me just upping 10 levels is a huge increase over the marginal that I was used to.
You have to realize first that just increasing the level itself may not be very significant, and in fact is irrelevant when it comes to soloing old bosses, as the boss itself is still flagged "boss" and thus gets treated as <yourlevel>+3 for all calculations. Their damage output and armor are fixed values so those are lessened but all other elements are in effect equal to a boss in icecrown.
What made a significant difference in L70 players being able to solo L60 content was the sheer difference in total health and damage output, which is more of a product of the item level budget than the actual 10 level gap. The same occurred in the 70-80 transition, though perhaps slightly less pronounced, I'm not sure a L80 could solo Illidan for example (though I did solo much of Karazhan not too long ago if I recall).
If the new bandages being released in Cataclysm are any indication, it's very possible that we'll see the same shift going 80-85, despite it only being a 5 level gap.
Don't expect to be able to solo too much of the ulduar/togc/icc stuff by Lv 85 with decent gear because of the fight mechanics, you'd probably get raped even at 100K+ hp unfortunately ;/
Possibly duo.. some stuff maybe.
Merrowgar can spike MT, impale dot togc + those things humping your face stun, kologarn can pickup MT if no one else is alive (squeeze instant death over time).
The WipeClub/Dives Vent recordings are the stuff of legend. BloodLegion's Troxxed also has a few choice quotes. For videos you're more or less on your own. For famous PvE world firsts you'll just have to google them, if there are videos you won't have trouble finding it. I don't know of a reliable database of 'amazing' PvE solo content. Warcraftmovies might have a few.
10 levels these days means your HP/MP totals double in greens/blues. Same was true from 50-60 iirc. Don't know what you were expecting. Soloing/lowmanning raid content has always been a function of consumables/gear rather than sheer level gain, though. Not every class can solo raid content just because they're 80. There's always some glitch/trick to exploit, just look at how level 80s are soloing ZG for mounts, for example. How significant exactly are level increases? I was reading that Onyxia was hard for 40 Level 60 players, but a level 70~ can solo it (since the cap got raised).
Colour me retarded, but is there a macro to automatically feed my pet a specific food when I press the Feed Pet button? Pain in the arse keep opening my bag to feed her.![]()
/cast [pet, nocombat] Feed Pet
/use [pet:Hyena, nocombat] Salted Venison
/use [pet:Gorilla, nocombat] Tundra Berries
/use [pet:Cat, nocombat] Salted Venison
/use [pet:Spirit Beast, nocombat] Salted Venison
/use [pet:Wolf, nocombat] Salted Venison
I use a mend pet/call pet macro for my main petty type incombat button.
/cast [pet] Mend Pet; Call Pet
http://www.wowhead.com/item=43350
never feed the pet again, just spam mend pet every few seconds (after its dead or something)
My pets been starved for months!![]()
Random question, is there any way to remove that little banner that displays the raid size? eg: numeric 25 or 10 depending on raid. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I couldn't find it in the settings or moveanything.
Thanks for the comments about the level thing guys. Gonna read up more on the mechanics of it all.
EDIT:
I wish to use my PS2/PS3 controller to play in a more leisurely/casual style, as of now I'm only playing with a couple of RL friends but am feeling discomforted with my laptop's size and having to use the keyboard/mouse since I usually lean back when playing games. I do not have an external keyboard due to space issues for now.
A quick google of "wow ps2 controller" brings me some hope but nothing conclusive, the best result I can find was a "Pinnacle Profile" (http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/foru...ad.php?p=35702) which is a software program that allows you to program your mouse, keyboard, and gaming devices.
The profile is as posted:
From the above, with a bit of tweaking on my side, I can easily see an improvement based on my "style" to the game. I could download the profile and "buy" Pinnacle Profile, but I wish to know if anyone knows of a workaround that's a bit more "free".1 = L2

I'm aware there seems to be a lot of rage or QQ against why I would want to use a pad, as my 2 RL friends who are veterans somewhat at WoW has already shown (and various WoW boards through preliminary research), but I just think I'll enjoy it a bit more by using a pad.
I have the available hardware:
PS3 Controller + USB Cable (I have discovered some drivers to make it function on Windows Vista while doing this research)
PS2 Controller connected via a USB Adapter (used for emulators and before I stopped FFXI)
Can't imagine wow being well played with a controller its not like ffxi. FFXI is different I could never play it with a keyboard. But with wow you kinda just have to learn to play with a keyboard.. you get used eventually.
What rogue-specific addons do I need to keep track of combo points, poisons, etc? Can I make ForteXorcist work?
