My little rogue, Jpbutton, just dinged 80 about 5 minutes ago. I know a wee, little bit, but not a lot.

Should I gem for agi or attack power? Should I aim for any specific numbers of crit/arp? How important is haste? (I'm gonna assume I want expertise capped, right?)

Basically, any advice on gemming/stat prioritizing would be much appreciated.

Gen ATT and Haste until your gear gets better. If you go combat, gem ARP once your passive arp from gear is around 800 or so (unless you have trinket proc, but I don't think capping arp from trinket proc is that great). Mut focuses on AP/Haste mostly.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

If you just dinged, Agility will be better then Attack Power to start, the only reason people aren't gemming Agility at higher mutilate levels is because of crit capping issues and the fact that haste is out of control at the moment.

If you are gonna stay mutilate, get expertise cap asap, also talent for quick recovery as your extra 2 points instead of fleet footed, untill you are expertise capped (26) this will help in those situations where your envenom gets dodged and your SnD is at < 3 seconds or whatever.

Are there any good sites to look for information about how to gear leading up to heroics and raids? Seems like everything is for beginners, or endgamers, but not much for people pushing to 80 trying to get decent upgrades on the way (me!)

You did normal dungeon's to get 80, and in the process got several triumph badges. Then until you have high enough gear score, run the normal ICC dungeons (fos, pos, hor) to get triumph badges and decent 219 starting epics.

    Don't forget normal ToC too!

But you don't really gear yourself "pushing to 80", you just kinda grab what you can from quests/dungeons, the rest falls into place at 80. Gear gets replaced so fast that I won't really worry about gearing appropiately per level, just get to 80. (which is why there's probably a lack of guides)

If you're really serious about gearing up before hitting heroics, there is some nice gear that you could get with honor in org. Its level 70 gear though, so I'm sure it'll get replaced in wotlk dungeons. However, I geared my lock with 60 get (currently 64) and I've yet to find anything in BC dungeons that'll replace what I got with honor.

Not too sure that's correct, all the spreadsheets and simulations I used when my Rogue first dinged called for AP gems instead of AGI

Does more damage than Hemo. Yeah, you don't backstab as combat/mut anymore but if you want to survive a fight that lasts longer than 30 seconds you'll want to be Sub spec for the cooldowns in it.

You can get boots, waist, wrists, and jewelry that way, which doesn't make up but maybe half your stats; it also requires a hell of a lot of honor, so unless you leveled strictly by BG I don't expect you'd be able to buy it all.

Also you can get items that are just about as good (the lack of wasted points on resilience tips the scale) from quests starting at L77.

If you're a dps you can just queue dungeons and pick up whatever drops at your leisure. Your gear will suck going in and people may give you shit for it but I guarantee that if you at least have a reasonable understanding of how to play your class you will still outdo people who are better geared than you. If you want to get a little insurance against the ribbing, you can look into some of the craftable wear; look up items that are crafted with Crusader Orbs, Runed Orbs, and Frozen Orbs (as applicable to your class). Pick up badges and buy appropriate upgrades as you acquire enough of those as well. As mentioned, you can go into Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron, Halls of Reflection, and Trial of the Champion to get some epic level drops directly from the bosses (most dungeons only drop blues).

If you're a tank or healer though, you may have a lot of trouble getting people to cooperate with you if your gear is subpar; they will expect to be able to rush through the dungeons like they can with a full group of raid-equipped players and it definitely won't work as well in a lot of circumstances. If you fill one of those roles, it's very highly recommended that you DEFINITELY look into some of that craftable gear I mentioned earlier, particularly as a tank since you need to quickly reach crit immunity through defense rating.

Spreadsheets are modeled around higher gear levels, they generally are not terribly accurate for fresh 80s.

Generally when you are a fresh 80 you should just be going for the highest ilvl stuff you can get, and with gems just use AP, agi, hit etc with gems and enchants because while they will differ slightly, you will hopefully get gear that vastly outclasses whatever you have in short order. Not to say you shouldn't bother with gems or enchants because you absolutely should, but most likely going to a ton of trouble to min/max on low level epics isn't really worth the time.

If I remember correctly, 3.0 level gear (naxx, os, maly) I was gemming AP on my rogue, and Ulduar/ToGC gear is when you make the migration to AGI, and then ICC gear AP/Haste for Mut and ARP/AGI (once hard capped on ARP) for combat.

Blue quality gems and 2nd tier enchants shouldn't cost you more than 20-30 gold each. There is no excuse to not gem/enchant with at least the basics once you have anything better than green quality gear. If this is your first 80 however, one thing you should be focusing on is quests/instances(wear the proper tabard) to gain rep for the head enchant (shoulder enchant rep can be bought with trade ins).

Level 80 honor gear is sold in the same room. Don't bother with the 70 stuff, as green quest gear will have better stats.

Well over here only tanks get crap, and the TRULY shit dps (talking about people doing below 1k), healers and DPS dont really matter.

What I recommend is to check wowhead.com to see each dungeon drops and aim for those, and for the love of god, try and do all dungeons at least once in normal mode and pick whatever drops before jumping to heroics. If you're healer or tank, getting the reputation rewards (Argent Crusade, Kirin Tor, etc.) will suffice while you farm emblems for gear. Can do that as dps too will just take longer if all you do is queue for dungeons and not quests.

How can they be inaccurate? As long as you know how to input the proper numbers it won't matter what gear level you're at, some spreadsheets don't have lower gear automatically in them but you can input them easily enough

"How can they be innacurate?" Not all spreadsheets are designed to replicate the game mechanics, some are just calculations that attempt to weigh stat contributions, and to do that they assume a certain gear level as a base. I am sure that there are some that are better of course, but you can't just assume a spreadsheet is going to be accurate.

Spreadsheet to me means put in a set of gear and it calculates, not assumes certain gear level, if it's assuming a certain gear level, it can't possibly accurately calculate based on gear you choose within the spreadsheet

Rogue, at least, can accurately model its entire dps structure with a spreadsheet, because their resource system gives them a guaranteed and fixed output ratio for their resources.

None of the spreadsheets that are out there right now are just stat weights, they actually attempt to identify the raw dps the individual item contributes to your character.
