What I recommend is to check wowhead.com to see each dungeon drops and aim for those, and for the love of god, try and do all dungeons at least once in normal mode and pick whatever drops before jumping to heroics. If you're healer or tank, getting the reputation rewards (Argent Crusade, Kirin Tor, etc.) will suffice while you farm emblems for gear. Can do that as dps too will just take longer if all you do is queue for dungeons and not quests.
That's actually exactly what I did yesterday. Not much in terms of plate dps drops in the dungeons I've been getting for randoms (mostly get runs in Nexus, OK - nice neck upgrade I'm trying to snag - and Azjol-Nerub). A couple nice upgrades in there though. Normally what I do is jump in the queue, hit up some quests while I wait (normally 20 minutes or so), and immediately re-queue when I'm done, do more quests, rinse and repeat.

Most of the spreadsheets I've seen require A LOT of tuning to be useful to a freshly dinged level 80 character, mostly because of the TARGET settings, not the player settings. Your personal stats are always going to produce a predictable, calculable effect on your theoretical DPS vs. a boss level mob, but most freshly dinged 80s aren't swinging their weapons at one, so really the question they want answered is 'how do I make my performance in 5-mans better?' which most spreadsheets are ill-equipped to answer. The combat table just doesn't line up with the expectations set by a lot of spreadsheets when the mob doesn't have 10k armor and force 4.8% crit depression on melee hits.

Short answer: don't use spreadsheets like a bible when you're not in a raid environment. Gem/enchant like you're gemming/enchanting gear you're not going to hold onto for very long, anyway.

My Paladin is 72, planning on taking it to 80 within the next week. Fortunately for me I haven't touched my Paladin in 2 weeks, so I have rested exp for quite a bit (dinged all the way through 70 and 71 with rested exp; got to 72, still have an entire bar of rested). I'm planning on queue'ing up as a tank until rested goes away for instant queues.

Now my concern is, I'm planning on being a ret Paladin. However queueing up as DPS for heroics takes too long, so I'm planning on queue'ing up as a tank to make farming badges quicker. So can I gear up for ret and still be able to do heroics? Or will I be too much of a sponge?

(By gearing up for ret, I meant start using my badges for ret gear instead of tanking gear)

As long as you aren't doing a hard heroic like Halls and your healer doesn't have the same idea, it should be fine. I would recomend gemming/enchanting what tanking gear you do have though because that goes a long way (at 80 I mean). At this point in the expansion the players are so used to heroics and have such good gear usually that you don't even need to wear tank gear, I'm not even Defense Capped anymore for anything including HICC.

If I am bored with my Assassination Rogue at 44 is it worth continuing to 80? Not really having fun with it and wondering if it gets better later.

Assassination is terrible until 60, period. Without Mutilate you're constantly poking at mobs with weak ass dagger SS spam between kidney shot/cheap shot cooldowns. The boosts to poison/bleed damage don't do much for you while levelling, either. If you want to continue levelling as rogue I strongly recommend switching to combat (spec into whatever weapons you have on you that do the most DPS), then switching to Mut once you get strong enough daggers in Outland.

My exp is rather low... my question is, do i rawr myself and exp cap or go for some exp pieces? I don't like the loss of armor penetration, but I'm pretty sure the expertise is going to help more.

Rawr isn't well developed for rogues, get the rogue spreadsheet if you want to machine out your efficiency.

I feel like I've seen an addon or a list or an article or something that has raid specific debuffs on it - random searching isn't really pulling up anything except that maybe it was a grid addon which I'm hoping against because I don't use grid. I can just start at all shown and slowly filter out the ones I don't want but obviously I don't want to do that if I don't have to, and I'd like to have them set aside by themselves. Any ideas?

Raid debuffs, debuffs that happen in raids, not in PVP or outside raids; an addon that shows them and/or a list that lists them for filtering your own chosen buff addon.

I still don't understand, there isn't a buff/debuff addon out there that doesn't list EVERYTHING that applies to your character; if you just want a written list of debuffs, you can get that from wowwiki.

As I said before this is out of largely laziness so I'd like to give it a few days and see if anyone remembers or has an add-on for it besides grid. That said I appreciate your attempt to answer but just because you don't know one doesn't mean there's none, so please don't take it upon yourself dismiss my request, thank you.

I'm not trying to dismiss you, I'm saying I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE REQUEST

A text list of debuffs has already been done, and addons that ALREADY track buffs/debuffs don't exclude raid ones in any way, so what the fuck are you trying to do?

Are we speaking the same language here?

Almost sounds lke he's describing Decursive, but I didn't think people seriously used that addon since Blizz sliced its balls off.

I'm gonna take a stab at breaking it down, even though I'll just be reiterating what was said before me:

I feel like I've seen an addon or a list or an article or something that has raid specific debuffs on it
As mentioned there is a list on wow wiki I'm sure. There are also TONS of debuff addons. Some like grid and other unit frame addons show you what the raid has in pretty colors or big icons. There are tons of debuff addons for whats on you as well, buffalo elksbuffbars there are hundreds of buff/debuff addons.

I can just start at all shown and slowly filter out the ones I don't want but obviously I don't want to do that if I don't have to, and I'd like to have them set aside by themselves.
Raid debuffs, debuffs that happen in raids, not in PVP or outside raids; an addon that shows them and/or a list that lists them for filtering your own chosen buff addon.
There are no addons that are going to give you JUST raid debuffs, since, well, the majority of debuffs used outside of raids are also used in raids. Yes in raids there are more unique debuffs, but all the pvp debuffs like fears, MC, poisons, DnD, almost everything is also used by some boss somewhere in a raid setting, so you aren't going to get an addon that has raid debuffs and not pvp debuffs since they are one in the same.

Now if you want to move the debuffs around and see them in different places or make them easier to see, there are tons of addons like I mentioned that will show you what you have on you currently. If you want to see what the raid has on them, it's going to be part of a unitframe addon like grid/xperl etc. Grid is the absolute BEST for this because you can customize how they show up, as well as add your own and custom ones.

Just picked up WoW again since 2005 (I made it to level 40 and quit). I started as a Draenei Priest. Any tips for a complete noob to wow (played ffxi for a long time)? Is the game dead for low level play? Any web sites or mods (I remember one that would sort my bags and I loved it) I should know about that would make the game better at the beginning, which would increase the chances of me not quitting again? I'm pretty sure I pick a rpgpvp server because I know a friend on it, but he doesn't really play often.

You liar. TBC didn't come out until 2007.

Therefore, no help shall come your way.
