I always thought 'proc' was for 'processed', think it originated in games like EQ.

    Spec is definitely specialization, yeah.

"proc" comes from Everquest and was short fpr "spec_proc" or "special procedure" back then.

"spec" is short for "specialisation" as said before

those two possiblities hadn't even crossed my mind to be honest, while i like 'processed' more somehow spec_proc makes more sense,

    the more you know!

Proc was originally an acronym that stands for

    Percent (of)
    Random
    OCcurrence

    or something of that nature.

    edit: Nvm I'm wrong.

Is there enough money pre-80 in questing+greens+DEing BOE's on another char to get an epic flyer+cold weather by 77? If not whatever I guess the last 3 levels wont be TOO bad without the flyer. /cry

And how are you guys having that many zones left before hitting 80? I had most of storm peaks done on my main before I dinged 80. Are you doing Borean>Howling>Blight>Zul>Basin?
Well on my DK I made about 3500g going from 70-77 with no professions. I only one instance though so my money total would be higher than most. Not enough for an epic flyer obviously. Conversely I made about the same amount on the Hunter who had mining leveling from 70-74. So if you were to take up mining or herb you would probably make enough.

As for zones, I did Borean>Howling>Blight>Grizzly>Storm Peaks>Ice Crown. For me I found it much better leveling in SP and IC compared to what I tried in Zul'Drak once I had an epic flyer. It's also easier to go back and do those after your 80 as you can solo all the group quests.

Get your herbalism caught up first. You are missing out on free gold otherwise.

Gather up your healer-drake riders and make them practice the AOE heal on a pack of drakes.

My mage is closing on 80 quickly (77 atm), any buyable epics/rares I should be shopping/collecting mats/finding friendly crafters for? Currently geared in a moderate set of quest blue/greens and instance blues.

JC ring and neck, Ebonweave robe and gloves, Deathchill cloak, Hat of Wintry Doom, and Dark Runic Mantle are all good. Black Duskweave legs/wrists are decent if you have bad luck with heroic drops.

also, it depends a lot on your guild and how much you play, if you're fast the only thing really worth buying is hat and maybe ring

oh and the cape, depending on your build, as arcane I can't be giving up all my int

This ring is also pretty good and easy to get: Ring of Temerity

And I agree that you don't have to buy all that stuff heh. The hat is pretty bad ass though because it has nice itemization and a meta socket. The Chaotic Skyflare meta gem is great.

Get the dagger from Kirin Tor Rep, they already mentioned Wintry Doom. Then run H VH/UK/CoS for the rings and trinket. The boots from Wyrmrest exalted are pretty much amazing too.

So I'm going to replace my aging P4/AGP rig and want something that'll run the pants off of WoW. I've read that the game is heavily CPU-bound, but I want to run full effects and distance AND shadows AND AAx16 etc at 1600x1200. Can I do this with a higher clock-speed CPU like an E8600 with a middle range piece like a 4670, or do I need to go to a 4870 to get what I want?

Might want to make a post in the tech section to get more answers, but I'll throw my 2 cents in here anyway.

It is processor and memory dependent, but you still need a decent graphics card especially for WotLK areas. An overclocked processor and 2GB ram should be enough for most anything along with a mid-range card. You still might see the occasional FPS dip in Dalaran, Wintergrasp, and raids, but it shouldn't affect your gameplay. If you want it maxed out all the time, go for the 4870 and you shouldn't have any problems.

One person in my guild runs two of those 4870s in SLI I believe, and says he definitely notices the game being choppy when running everything max including multisampling. I'm pretty sure that multisampling is the main culprit of any slowdown you'd see, personally I'd go with the 4670 and adjust my game settings to sane levels.

Also, you definitely want over 2GB of ram, WoW can very readily hog over 1.2GB of ram, which doesn't leave much room for play on vista systems, however ram is cheap and I'm sure you'll have no problem picking up 4GB.

I wouldn't advise buying 4870's in crossfire and upgrading to 4GB just for WoW, it's a lot of money for a slight improvement to run absolute max settings.
