I have an overclocked C2D E6700 or 6750 (I forget which, and I think it's overclocked to 3ghz) with 2gb ram and geforce 8800 GTS, I can run fullscreen 1280x1024 with maximum spell effects and shadows, turning down mostly superfluous things like ground clutter. My sight distance isn't as high as I'd like it to be (one notch above the lowest setting), but I can still see decently far. Only lag I get is latency based, fps never grinds even in wintergrasp battles or 25man raids.

Getting every setting to the highest detail possible is definitely not necessary to have a smooth and good-looking experience.

I'm running an E8600 with 4GB ram Vista Ultimate and a 4870X2 for wow. I also FPS alot.

I run windowed usually, till I get a new 2nd monitor, but 1650x1080 FULL settings. Everything maxed blahblah. I do get some lag in northrend but only when I'm on my epic flyer, and I scroll the camera across the landscape, mainly near the edge of zones where there is a lot of water to render. I'm thinking this is something I just can't overcome and that it's actually based on how fast things are coming from the HDD, which is 10,000rpm. I've tried dimming some settings, but nothing really seems to have a drastic change in the game, I've tried overclocking my 4870x2, but that doesn't seem to do much either.

If you want to upgrade your computer fine, but you will NOT be able to get away from lag at full settings in at least some aspects of the game, my rig cost me over 2k and I still get some.... although it runs FPS games like a monster.

Thanks. Yeah, I was just a little worried that getting something like a 4780 would be overkill, but glad to see that the game will use it just fine if I crank up the settings enough.

Now, if only I could convince myself to upgrade my 1680x1050 IPS display to a 24" of the same quality...

respec'd to SV from BM, tested on dummy and the dps was way lower on SV... dunno what's wrong

What survival spec are you using? Which pet? Is your enchants for AP or for Agi? Are you trap dancing?

I'm sorry if those have been answered before but it's kinda hard to explain what's wrong when there could be several reasons. :D

Trap dancing should not be a factor as it's going to be severely and detrimentally impacted in 3.1

Yeah, defiantly go with BM for leveling. Survival is fun and all but being able to afk shoot while grinding is a lot better in my opinion when you have to grind through quests.

As for rotations, Best Possible DPS in Shandaras WotLK Spreadsheet - Elitist Jerks helped me a lot in figuring out what to do. Not sure how up to date it is but still should be helpful.

If you're still hardset on survival, Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft is a good start. Survival is going to be like marksmanship where you kill it before it comes to you. It'll stick to your pet if you use misdirect for a little bit but don't expect to kill group quest guys as easily.

Rotation should be Kill shot > Explosive > Serpent > Steady

And as for trap dancing not being valid, it's still valid until 3.1 hits. Shouldn't discredit it yet.

The 4870s are a lot of money, but the 4GB of ram won't set you back any nominal amount. 2GB just isn't enough to run WoW without capping out your physical memory now.

Ok folks, i really need some help. I've upgraded like mad, just bought the darkmoon card greatness (+90str), and did a H UP with my guild, i STILL only managed 2177dps according to recount. This is my current gear:

replace the medallion of heroism with Darkmoon Card: Greatness, (i dont know why its not showing up) and that's what i have. As you can see i'm unholy spec, which i love.

My usual rotation is death and decay, then icy touch > plague strike > scourge strike > blood strikex2, death coilx2 and repeat, with insect swarm and pestilence thrown in there. (corpse explosion too, but that depends if the right type of bodies are lying around).

Why am i still doing such piss poor damage? I really expected the card and some of my more recent upgrades to push my dps alot higher but it hasnt. I've been sitting at around 2100 dps for forever. Is there anything i can do differently to get higher numbers? I'm currently farming to afford a kirin tor ring, which ill have in a few days, so i'll be replacing the Kurzel's warband.

Please help!

your rotation and spec are both fairly messed up, you have no crit (20%), you need to go into blood tree further, the current rotation your using isnt bad for trash but wont do well on bosses at all. also you have ALOT of hit cap is now 265 (8%)

you might want to try out this rotation for bosses, IT > PS > BS x2 > SS > RP dump (keep unholy blight up then use the rest on DCs)
round 2: SS > SS > SS(last SS only if you have time left on diseases if not reapply) > RP dump

alot of people don't like glyph of Scourge strike (at least when I used to read forums) but I think its worth it =/ (also get glyph of ghoul/plague strike)

also you will want to try out this spec or something like it here

I havnt been unholy in some time so some of this might be outdated, but it should work.

also another spec if you want desicration here

So should i dump some str gems to replace with crit? I would have thought the 16str gems would be best. The 2 blues i actually have correctly gemmed for the bonus i need for the meta socket in my helm, so those have to stay.

I'm not a huge fan of gemming crit, STR gems are usually the way you want to go unless you need others for meta (like your doing) but once you get dark conviction you will get another 5% crit which is a nice boost also you will get 2% more from capping ebon plaguebringer. which will put you around 27% which is too terrible

STR in red, STR/Crit in yellow, STR/Stam in blue for gems imo

A lot of the time socket bonus's are minimal and you get better results just socketing +16 STR gems =/

tho in his case a few STR/crit gems wouldn't hurt, but lol@ having any more than 2 STR/Stam gems
