Can someone explain to me how to 5man/raid heal as paladin these days? The last time I did was way before cataclysm and shit's changed so much.

Speaking of loot, I joined on my bear a 9/10 guildrun (had already raided with them just to see how bear did on raids) so, magmaw drops some leather bracers, they give em to me, leather chest also dropped, me and the feral druid roll OS. After Omnotron some dude whispers to me 'hey could you give the chest to fera, he really wants to go boomkin' I give the chest, we do maloriak and some agi legs drop, so I roll the feral rolls, I win the roll and raidleader goes 'well you already won two pieces so giving them to feral' silly me assumed the feral had informed its guild about the trade, or his intentions to 'really go boomkin', drama ensued in their officer channel or something.
In the end I got the chest back and walked out with some valor and new wrists, my only annoyance was the druid saying one thing and still rolling for the leather pants but eh :>
How dangerous is it to use Pain Suppression on tanks in the middle of a boss encounter? (-5% threat)
or do I keep it for people who pull threat and unable to use reset cds? (lookin' at moonkins)
ty
It can be dangerous in a raid, where the boss turning can mean a wipe. So coordinate with your tank: he can taunt. PS is too good a cooldown to not find a way to use it.
In 5-mans, moonkins dying is hilarious and you should cause that to happen whenever you can.
actually you can pop pain suppression for mangle at magmaw
A sensible policy.
are Prot WAR tanks just stupidly high DPS nowadays? I had one today that was topping charts in my daily heroic. I was struggling to keep ahead of him most of the time as my hunter. I'm still gearing up and all, but i've never seen a tank do so much dps before...
shield slam is stupidly OP yes, block a lot = loads of free shield damage, add lolvengeance and splice things up with heroic strike or cleave. You need good gear to make those pretty numbers, my shitty geared war tank can barely hold threat vs. well geared dps (when i can get threat at all), unlike the other tanks which have it easier.
From my perspective as a tank (prot paladin), I wouldnt even notice if my threat dropped by 5% in pretty much any fight. Even in the worst case scenario where threat is lost, you always have plenty of time to taunt it back before the next hit.
The only scenario where it could actually make a difference is when a tank is holding many adds that are dps'd, and maybe in a fight like Chimearon where you constantly taunt off each other. If your tank is dying or about to get hit hard, use it.
Not a problem on magmaw for sure. You can build enough threat when its on the ground. You should definitively use it on the tank who is getting chewed on.I'd avoid on fights like Magmaw, Council, Omnotron where there are frequent threat resets
Same deal for council. 5% threat isnt going to change anything here. I would actually recommend using it when the wind guys when he has 15 stack of empowerement.
Omnotron doesnt reset threat but I wouldnt use it on a tank though since there is no spike dmg. Use it on a target who is about to get blasted by a slime (if people suck) or someone who is locked by the fire beam. It's the only dmg that are predictable.
It's a safe assumption, but I don't know, out of everything you have to do, seeing a giant monsters turn toward something else give a good visual cue that is very hard to miss.
Bump for this guy as it ended up on the last post in the previous, as I also want to know! I'm shit bored of Ret Paladin and I think I amassed a large amount of unneeded 346 gear which tops my dps collection gear enough to let me start having a try at healing. My plan was to read EJ, and then manual queue a Blackrock Caverns dungeon (none heroic) and see if I can last through that lol.
I never healed in this game before either lol
Had this happen in dungeons too many times. The druid needing on gear for both off specs lol. I understand the feeling though, to build a set of gear for both specs incase you want to play it. etcIn the end I got the chest back and walked out with some valor and new wrists, my only annoyance was the druid saying one thing and still rolling for the leather pants but eh :>
I havent healed on paladin since wrath, but I'm sure it's something you can easily figure out.
-judge (Seal of the insight) to get back mana, and to keep judgement of the wise up ( 9% haste)
-Keep beacon on the tank (usually) to transfer half of the healing done
-use Word of glory for free heal when you can
-Use the most cost/effient spells if it can keep up the target, otherwise move to the next biggest (Holy light > divine light > flash of light)
-Holy radiance (aoe around you) and light of dawn (frontal aoe) for AoE healing. Got a few cooldown to increase your healing down (Guardian of the ancient king, avenging wrath, and illumination).
What matter the most I think is getting a proper UI for healing before you start. Something simple like Grid that let you cast with a click from your UI.
Pretty much this. Judge every time it's off cooldown, it gets you ~3000 mana every 9 seconds. Use shock every cooldown as well as it's a decent, instant heal and is your main method of generating holy power.
Beacon tank and use Divine Light for the majority of your healing, since DL'ing the beacon generates holy power it makes it more effective over time than holy light. Don't use flash of light unless someone is about to die.
Light of Dawn is useless in 5 mans, the individual healing is very light and its mainly used in raids because it transfers more healing to the beacon (tank) than WoG does. In 5man AoE healing situations it's easier to just triage heal with divine light.
Pop radiance when you need it but be wary of it if you're undergeared as it costs a shitton of mana. I macro it with favor since 20% haste = more ticks.
Unless there's AoE to worry about it makes sense to move into melee range as well since your auto attacks will give mana back via insight (you can also use crusader strike as a filler move to generate HoPo faster)
Just set up grid+clique or use VuhDo or Healbot that you can set up with mouse clicks. It's much easier to heal when you just have to click on a bar. Make sure you include panic cooldowns like LoH, GoAK, HoSac etc for when shit hits the fan. Healing in cata can be frustrating if you were used to the Wrath model of keeping everyone topped off, but it's easy once you get the hang of it and realize that's it alright to let the DPS sit at half health while you heal the tank through some heavy damage.
Is DL on the beacon really stronger over the long haul? Could be why the paladins I'm healing with always seem to suck shit, they're achieving a 55/45 split on DL/HL casts even though they're tank healing.
I don't even use holy light unless the tank is topped off and I'm hunting daybreak procs. Technically it's the most efficient heal, but divine light is better when you factor in the larger beacon transfers, bigger mastery shields, and the fact it generates holy power. Especially if you're a tank healer, faster HoPo = more WoGs/LoDs = more hps on the tank.
Looking at my last WoL entry http://worldoflogs.com/reports/86zlu...?s=6209&e=6602 in a 6.5 minute fight I got off 63 LoDs and 2 WoGs meaning I was generating 3 holy power roughly every 6 seconds. Also I had only a 4% overheal on divine light (people are so bad at moving in my 25 mans so maybe that's why) and I only used holy light a handful of times.
I'm struggling a bit on deciding what my VP upgrade should be on my Shaman
its between Fluid Death & T11 Hands.
suggestions?
