If you press V, when you're in range, it will show their nameplates, making it easier to target them.
And in party/raiding you can /focus your tank, and if you have target of focus enabled in your UI, you'll see your tank's target everytime.

well how we're currently doing it is having the hunter stand out for flame pillar with traps at the ready, but there are still parasites getting to the main group. i do think alot of it has to do with the mage but i dont really wanna say to him up your game mate or your kicked if its not entirely his fault.

Have them do this. Place a ice trap and explosive trap(have glyph) before the fight starts. That way once the pillar spawns CD is up for both (only really matters for explosive trap). Repop trap shot, explosive after proc is done.

Tell the hunter to run around the ice trap area in a circle, only coming forward towards magmaw, not away to avoid healing issues.

Is there any trick to normal Magmaw, currently my guild is struggling to get to grips with the adds. our current ranged dps are Lock Mage Hunter but sometimes they just seem to struggle (ok the mage does jump around a bit on dps it might be a factor) but i cant help but feel that theres a bigger issue going on.

Frost trap alone should be more than enough to kill the adds if its well placed, but warlock can use their pet to aoe tank the add (at least, I know some spec can), mage can slow them down, and you probably have 1 melee that could help if needed. As long everyone uses their tool properly, the adds should always dies before reaching the groun

And here is a few pointers that might help
-Range need to be perfectly stacked. This way, you're sure that nobody is going to run through the pillar when you change side
-Everyone who can slow the adds should do so, even melee. Magmaw isnt a race, and dealing with adds should be your first priorities
-Get 2 tanks. It's doable with 1 but it will make your healer job much harder. Also, whoever isnt tanking can taunt the adds if they are killed too slow and kite them

this is incredibly noobish of me, but im used to the f8 targeting system in FFXI or /assist in Dynamis (back in the day) but is there a faster way of targeting mobs while moving around and killing things? im only lvl 35, but my friend is trying to get me some practice in some instances and i seem to be incredibly sluggish at always facing the wrong way and not targeting, since im used to the auto lock feature from FFXI lol

Get Tidyplate addon, it will make targeting much easier when there is multiples monster overlapping and you need a specific one.

However, most of the time, spamming Tab while walking backward is enough to get the correct target (if you don't press back, it might be out of sight). You will get used to it eventually.

Levelling in PvP/BGs

I haven't been able to win, seems like a curse on me, any BG that I queue up for manually, so I haven't been able to tell.

But anyways, do I get more EXP via winning a random BG? Or would I get the same by queuing manually. I enjoy AV/Isle of Conquest due to the sheer amount of people. I don't really need honor so the random honor prizes don't mind me.

I was joking. It's just that I can't imagine anyone using the suboptimal A and D key when you can turn instantly right a right click.

You can get more XP for Av than others if your group isn't complete fail (even with the loss as long as your group didn't get completely dominated). XP reward is based on tower captured/kept, miniboss killed/still alive, and win/lose. Though Isle is good Xp also.

Weekend BG holiday will be worth the most.

kind of an easter egg i found:

in uldum, follow the river south until it hits the lost city of the tol'vir. there's a small waterfall. on the left-most side, dive into the waterfall. there's two small (gnome? pygmy?) skeletons lying side by side with arrows in their heads. I assume this isn't just decoration, because who would ever see it? Is this a movie reference to something?

If the hunter is having issues kiting the adds (using the solo ranged tactic) he should spec SV, and yes the felguard can tank some of the adds.

My DK was geared as a dps, and not a very good one at that. I'm interested in making it a tank, but i have next to no tank gear. What would be my best bet for getting it geared up? Can i handle normals with no tank gear? or should i just do dailies for the next two months?

Rep gear will go a long way to getting you started, a lot of that stuff is pretty good. Though I'd imagine that if you have any sort of raid epics dps gear you could probably tank in that until you start picking up actual tank bits lol

Pretty sure you can. I always tank with my pvp gears accidently , and the only noticeable difference is my dmg output being much higher than usual


To get gears quickly, just try to grab every rep gears you can. Grab that 333 trinkets on the AH (its better than most 342), grab a few pvp gears if you have the honor, and you will be fine.

pvp shit. i just tossed a bunch of AH crap on him before i really knew what i was doing this expansion ( i took a break after toc hit until recently). Only thing i did as far as gearing to tank so far is talent into EJ's cookie-cutter tank setup, got my glyphs and called it good. I don't mind starting with normal dungeons, but i dont want to fail at that. maybe ill start doing dailies again.

Ya you'll be fine.

Pick up a Hyjal tabard and work on that first. The epic belt and cape are both very good for tanking.
Then work on Dragonmaw/Hammerclan for the epic boots
Then Ramkahken for the epic Bracers and the silly camels (I hate the camels)

You might get bitched at for having shit gear sometimes and you might not be able to pull the harder packs in aoe mode in stonecore / grimbatol / throne of tides. But its doable
