I really wouldn't sweat this as much as you guys are. I was hacked twice before I got my authenticator, both times it took less than 24 hours for the GMs to restore everyting. Worst case scenario, Blizz learns they're wrong and you're inconvenienced for half a day. Use the time to get outside, get some sun, it'll be ok. I swear. Some of you flippin out needlessly.

Also, the reason you posted (IP spoofing) was completely wrong, and Aurik's point, while technically feasible if the scenario is exactly how he described isn't how it actually happen. I asked for additional scenarios because these two are not going to happen.

Just because you've never heard about someone getting hacked using a public proxy, doesn't mean it can't happen, it doesn't mean someone wouldn't go through the effort to do it

Get this right, it has nothing to do with what I have seen before, but if the idea would be technically feasible or not. Gilsellers can't do magic to steal your account, and as clever as they are, some stuff are not going to happen.

Taking precautions is a horrible thing. Like it's been said before, 10 fucking minutes to put this in with a toggle on it that players can choose if they want the window to pop every time or not. Stop defending Blizzard like it's a great idea on their part, was anyone REALLY annoyed having to put their Authenticator code in each log in time? I have mine sitting right next to my monitor and it took all of 5 seconds to input it...what I did hate about it was WoW constantly d/cing me if I logged out of one character and tried to log into another, even AFTER they lied and told us all they had fixed the issue completely.

Do you check up everytime you cross the street just in case something is going to fall on your head. Taking precaution is great and all, but there is a time where it become excessive and ridiculous.

It's not even about defending blizzard, I'm just enjoying the amount of idiocy and paranoia I see.

And yes, I agree blizzard should have let the options somewhere. Giving people a false sense of security is just as good as giving them real security.

This has been true since the days of LBRS/UBRS/Scholomance, and only became more true with badge gear in TBC. Requiring people to raid old content to participate in new content leads to roster stagnation and an extremely high barrier to entry for people new to the game/realm/guild.

^, no one wants to run new people through say fuckingUld to gear them in ToC and then gear for ICC25 just like no one will want to gear people in BWD/BoT to gear for Firelands, and then another step up and another and another. Boring and tedious.
