That makes the width of content at endgame pretty shallow though.

I don't know that endgame content is made deeper by going back to Uldum every week to farm Val'anyr shards (or Gruul's Lair for Dragonspine Trophies, or BWL for Elementium Ingots, or...). But hey if you like that stuff at least you'll have a reason to come back to Firelands when the 4.3 raid is released.

I know nobody's calling for a return to Burning Crusade style content gating. That shit was just. TERRIBLE.

Maybe raids should go back to having 12-14 bosses to keep the teeming masses happy?

All I can say is that 7 bosses is going to be pretty damn boring after 6-8 weeks. At least T11 had 13 in 3 different raids.

since we're on the subject of firelands, I wasn't on the PTR. Are any of the fights majorly unfriendly to melee dps? Alkyrazor's flight phase looks pretty bad, but not sure about the rest.

Cripes. I really didn't want to hear that. I have MM hunter or frost dk at my disposal, and my raid leader keeps urging me to use the DK.

Is there some sort of unique benefit to being "block capped" as a prot paladin?

Trading higher risk for higher return
In general we like designs like this a lot. The challenge is that WoW is a game where you are tanking for a group, so there is a substantial social dynamic at play. We don't want things to play out is like this: "Oh, look, our DK tank has the easy mode Death Strike talent. Ergo, he's a bad tank. Let's kick him and get a good one."

Never mind that the DK in question probably tanks better with the "automatic" Death Strike rather than fumbling through the "manual" one. Never mind that the difference between the two is probably not going to make the difference between success or failure unless you are on Heroic raids (in which case why on earth do you have a pug tank?)

Obviously we shouldn't design around misinformation. But at the same time, social pressure is really powerful. If the active / harder-to-use / more pro mode of Death Strike becomes the only acceptable standard, then we haven't accomplished anything but complicate the game.

It's something to think about at least.
Someone mind explaining this to me? my dk is only 72 but I can't understand the fuck he means.

DKs can manually time/use Death Strikes for higher heals/returns.

You basically pool enough damage in the 5 second window (the addon Blood Shield Tracker is useful for this) before hitting Death Strike. So if you know there's some huge damage incoming, using a Death Strike immediately after grants you a large heal along with a large shield.

    Some examples:
Throne of Tides first boss: shock blast, if you don't interrupt it, it hits for quite a bit of damage. Death Strike back up and you'll have a significant amount of HP/shield; when I tank it I use Dark Simulcrium and not interrupt it, because I can throw it back on the boss for 110k damage XD
Blackrock Caverns - those big adds that use Shadow Strike
Blackwing Descent - Chimeron (the reason they added the Break debuff on the boss, because I believe before a DK can solo tank it indefinitely)

Block capped on Paladin (which is 50% or so I think) means:
Each incoming melee hit = you either block, or eat it, but you also can rely on your other avoidances (dodge/parry) to mitigate it completely.

Block capping effectively pushes any regular hit off the table. Every hit will either be dodge, parried, or blocked. Making for a stream of low incoming damage; rather than bursts of larger damage interspersed.

Didn't Blizzard specifically say they were going to make it balanced for both ranged and melee? I mean, it's not like I actually believed they would do such a thing, shit they can't be bothered to honor 99.9% of what they tell us. (Dance studio when?)

It's weird that you bitch about them re-doing /roar for every race yet bitch that Blizzard isn't honoring their promise to put the Dance Studio In. Are you actually schizophrenic?

I have a Paladin I've been playing since long and a more recent DK:

Is Retribution so bad it'd be better to use the DK for dps and just keep the paladin tank as it already is? I am absolutely clueless about Retri Pallies.

I dislike Ret Paladin's rotation at the moment. It's so rouletty. Keeping up Inquistion makes me rage too.

Was there a need for new roar emotes? Did the community at large want that in any way shape or form? Other then worgen roars being bugged and not working, which they could have just fixed. The dance studio is a larger project, was promised to us at WoTLK launch and still has not even been mentioned (in regards to a yes or no).

My point being, blizzard lists "We don't have the time for that" as a lot of reasons for not fixing certain things or working on certain things, yet they implement new /roars and an animation for maps, things that honestly were fine how they are. I didn't feel any less immersed in the game when I hit M to open my map and it just popped up. I also use /dance a shit load more then I do /roar. My point still stands though, where the fuck is the dance studio?

Are Hunters just extremely gear dependent? When my druid (cat - main) was a fresh 85 I was doing around 8-9k in Heroics w/shitty gear. Same w/ my priest. Just finished leveling a hunter (leveled since after cata).. and in Alchy trinket, epic VP boots, crafted epic belt.. rest noob gear aside like 3 333 pieces lol, im only doing 5k dps'ish single target. Am I missing something? Hunter rotation seems pretty brain dead so not sure if I'm missing something or theey are just more gear dependent then the other classes I have played.

    Survival rotation is basically:

Serpent Sting > Black Arrow > Explosive Shot > Cobra x3 > explosive (every time its off CD) > repeat basically that same rotation w/ re-applying Black Arrow when its off CD and throwing in some arcane shots when I have extra focus. I always make sure to have enough focus for Black Arrow and Explosive when it's off CD.

I am also using a cat pet. Am I missing something?

A ravager, wind serpent, or dragonhawk will probably serve you better than a cat. The DPS on cunning and ferocity pets are close, I think cunning has a slight edge right now? It did in 4.0 anyway. The ravager gives you 4% physical damage dealt, and the wind serpent and dragonhawk give 8% magic damage, with such a large portion of your damage being magical, it's a huge boost. Either of those should be better than roar of courage.

Also, as with most classes now, and you probably know this already but it's worth repeating, you should be working off more of a priority then a standard rotation. You're generally right though, serpent sting should go up first, then cobra will keep it up. Black Arrow goes back up when it's down. Explosive on cooldown, and arcane shot as your focus dump. Cobra to build focus back up. Working lock and load is a big killer for some people too. I've personally found the most success with firing off the explosive, cobra, explosive, arcane, explosive.

I never once had a rotation, I always went by that belief. I should have been more specific and said how thats generally how I try to dps (saying that I was using Black arrow and explsive on CD). And yeah, when L&L proc's I was doing.. either: explosive > cobra > explosive > combra > explosive or I would mix in an arcane if I had a bunch of focus.

I'm sad about hearing that about cat's though.. I just got my Sambas

How is BM dps compared to Survival.. and would I use a cat for BM? Also, it seems that the pet you would bring to a raid (not that I plan to raid much on this character) would depend on what is needed for missing buffs

Thanks for the help though. Doesn't seem like I am doing anything wrong aside using the wrong pet. But even that shouldn't increase my dmg by huge amounts. Think it's just gear.

Any cool wind serpents / dragonhawks out there to tame?

I personally prefer BM over survival and MM in general. MM should still be on top, I believe BM is higher than survival though. As for BM pets, if you aren't using an exotic, there's not much of a reason to use the spec. I use a devilsaur myself, but I also keep a worm, core hound, and chimaera on me for their different uses. Worm has the 4% physical damage debuff, and burrow, but it's a tenactiy pet. Core hound for obvious reasons, and chimaera is killer for aoe situations. Devilsaur has 5% crit. But yeah, switching pets up depending on what you need is the way to go.
