So during a random group on my Paladin, they were telling me to stop healing myself because I'd get more hate swinging instead of healing? Now I understand that may be true if I'm wasting the heals, and on trash mobs, it'll be more efficient to leave the healing to the healer, but from a hate-mechanics standpoint, is that true?

Generally yes...though Word of Glory on yourself is fine. Also realize while casting you can't dodge/block/parry afaik. As far as threat goes, it's split evenly between all targets, so if you have 5 mobs, you're only getting 1/5th the healing threat per mob.

All that being said, if adds are spawning from 4 different corners of a room, a heal isn't a bad call, since it's hard to actually attack all of them.

Word of glory every 30sec, holy radiance sometime (avenging wrath+holy radiance is decent aoe heal) and lay on hands are the only heal you should use. Like Failure said, casting on paladin tank is a pretty bad idea.

You never want to use "cast" heals on yourself while in combat as stated earlier(unable to dodge/parry/block). WoG used to generate decent threat/TPS but got heavily nerfed back around 4.0.6- 4.1ish. You are much better off using Holy Power for Shield of the Righteous for single target and Inquisition for AoE tanking. Since WoG was put on a 20sec CD its become more so used as an emergency heal when needed or used before/after a big burst of attacks depending on how you are specced.

Threat is not an issue. The only question you should ask yourself is "are you, or anyone in the party, at risk". If yes, then use WoG (3 holy power), if no, then go for the dps to speed up w/e you're doing.

Also, with a talent (guarded by light) WoG overhealing is converted into a shield, so it's never wasted (can use it before a big hit)

Am I better off doing 80-85 as Shadow or Disc Priest? Since it looks like stats have changed, what stats am I looking for while leveling as either shadow or disc?

Disc priest is fun as fuck. And Spriest is a chart topper if you dont suck

I find it to lacking in raids, its very easy to tunnel vision. Which is why I dont use it

For leveling it's awesome, it is a bad choice in raids if you don't totally outgear the encounter, but the spec itself is not a bad choice in raids as long as you don't tunnel vision on spamming smite.

Are there any cons to leveling solely in dungeons, besides missing lore and not being able to see some of the zones? The gear that come from dungeons should almost always be better than the ones from solo questing, right?

I did that for Warrior and Paladin.

Everything is irrelevant until level cap anyway. Go for it.

You might go a while without getting gear upgrades and be stuck farming stuff until you reach ilvl needed for higher dungeons in cata zones, and questing is going to be faster in almost any scenario because you can dual spec something that does damage if you plan to be a healer.

Edit clarification: It's not faster if your group is full of people who know how to do high damage at any level, vs the retard hunters that melee that I seem to always get at lower levels, and when you have rested xp and dungeon quests the dungeon will be faster by virtue of the extra experience from that.

Before 80, it doesnt really matter. I found questing to be faster and usually more fun (more lore, and some quests are pretty fun), but if you prefer dungeons or battleground, it works just fine too.


Above 80, it's better to grind quests to max your reputations imo, especially the one that give you Enchant for your class (spell caster= hyjall, str dps= twilight highland, agi dps=uldum, tank=vash'jr, and everyone need to grind deepholm for should enchant. Other than that, it doesnt really matter what you do.

You also need to do Hyjal questline up to a certain point (free all 4 gods) to have access to some easy gears at 85.

You need to do some levelling in each Cata zone for access to the portals. The Hyjal/Uldum portals are particularly handy for Alliance players since taking the boat or buying a port can be painful otherwise.

Ok awesome, though I think I may wait on it since it's against the ToS apparently and not sure if the guys codes are 100% legit. Friend in game bought one and said it worked fine, but i'll wait to see in a month if the game time doesnt work out.
