I would go DK.
Ret Paladins, I feel, are extremely boring. Though they seem to bring some more utility over the raid, I feel they are boring to play, but Frost DK I think has been pretty much the same (saying that, I've not touched Frost for a long time now since patch 5)... still, I'm quite unsure.
What really scares me about Retridins is how unreliable their design is. I really liked the class back in LK days, then came Cata and I swear I hated every single moment of it.
Pandaria brought some nice changes and the class feels nice again, but it still looks like Blizzard has no real clue on what makes the spec unique.
I had never played WoW until I dl'd the free version this weekend. I have played most of the failed WoW-killers- Warhammer, Aion, Rift, & Swtor, hoping to find my post FFXI mmo, but believed it was too late to bother trying WoW.
Is it?
It seems to have most of what I want- a ton of PVE content & the largest player base. How hard is it to start at this point in the game's cycle?
I feel I owe it to myself as an MMOer to experience it.
I appreciate any thoughts/input/tips.
Not hard, but you should find an active guild.
I came from FFXI and i've been playing since. There really is a ton of stuff to explore and complete. However, story telling in wow is kinda bad imo. it's never too late to try wow.
I say try it out to 60. you live in the EU?
If you live in the EU me and Mortilox can make this into a 3sum
Also, WoW is never too late. No matter when you start, you can always approach "best player -2" levels in terms of gear very quickly per content patch. Each patch makes your previous gear achievements moot. If you can live with that.
(for current players that are wondering what I am talking about, -2 = pre raid or LFR gear, -1 = raid gear, +1 = hardcore/heroic crowd)
Thanks for the replies. I'm NA, not EU, but would be open to RaF- I originally rolled on Zul'jin since it was a queue-less, high pop server with some decent horde progression guilds. I'm open to server/guild suggestions though.
Do people level via dungeons and/or old raid tiers? If so, what level does that become viable? Or have previous tiers been scaled up to the new level caps?
Are the official forums a decent source of info? Are the Fires of Heaven forums like the BG of Wow?
I'll cap my newb questions at that for the day.
What kind of info?
WoWhead is usually best for quest info and also item source info.
MMO Champion is good for WoW news/patch notes/changes. Do not read the forums though unless you feel like going on rampage across the country.
Icy Veins are good for raid tactics
Elitist Jerks are the BG of WoW I'd say. Heavy theorycrafters there. Recommend you to read-only, but they'll have the top of the line information. If you post there without anything new, prepare to get shot/banned on the spot.
Ask here/us for all other questions. Official forums consists of too many autistic people. We'll deliver you a more realistic answer than the official forums would ever give you.

You can level via dungeons starting from 15. If you're a healer or tank, your queue times would be significantly less than a DPS. Otherwise, you will level via questing primarily (solo). It is entirely possible to sit in town and level primarily through dungeons. The tool will put you in level appropiate ones until level cap, which you will then move on to "85 +1" versions of dungeons called heroics which are tuned for level capped players (and reward only gear/gold).
You do not need to level up using old raid tiers. The only exception to this is "current" content where you are given the option to, but can generally be avoided as Blizzard will provide you level cap dungeons to gear up for whatever the current raid tier is. You used to have to in older expansions, but this is moot now.
What's the best way to find some people to play with casually who are competent enough to casually do heroics and not require some strict bullshit schedule? I've been considering playing again out of sheer boredom but my server was dead so I'd be looking to move somewhere with a heavier population.
So for a trinket is the Alchemy Zen stone at 85 any good at 90 as well? Seems like it would be outshined by any lvl 90 heroic trinkets. (Healing or dps Monk)
any idea where

comes from?
There are vendors in the Vale that sell it for one phoenix egg. You get the egg from getting all silver medals in Challenge Modes.
So how are the dps classes stacking up right now? Trying to decide what to main.
Play your DK, blood is exceptionally good and frost damage is retarded.
Thank you. I was hoping I could main that again and not fall behind.
So I'm being forced to bear tank for our guild because our bear officer is away for 2 weeks. My question is should I be reforging for dodge or mastery? I can't seem to get a clear answer on this. Some people are saying to reforge/gem straight for dodge and some are saying mastery. Which do you think I should do for the new raid? So far we downed the first boss before calling it last night because of dc's.
What's up with the on screen quest log tracking? I thought maybe it was an add-on screwing it up so I tried disabling them all and it didn't do anything. It's only showing a max of two quests, sometimes it's showing one or none. I've tried switching it to manual and making sure everything is being tracked, none of the options will change what's being displayed. It's really annoying when I'm out questing and think I'm done and I run back to town to find out I'm not.
