Alright thanks.
Alright thanks.
with the new 3.2.2 updates to DK, dw tanking is looking far more attractive. They're allowing rune strike to attack with both weapons in the patch. In either case I still wouldn't DW tank as DK unless there were some stupidly good one-hand (note: not main-hand!) tank weapons out there that made it worth the superlative miss rate and the extra parried hits.
@tricen: little bit of advice if you don't do it already, redo all your abilities and spells in your tank spec and have each one attempt to press rune strike. Saves you a TON of hassle pressing the rune strike button every other second.
I'm going to use http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40402#comments:40 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45700 once my tank set is complete, see how i do. I don't have a 2 hand tank weapon at the moment, so this'll have to do.
Does anyone have Joana's Horde leveling guide for Northrend?
Jame's Leveling Guide: TourGuide style | World of Warcraft Pro
better than any out of game guide you'll ever find
It's the entirety of Jame's guide, which is every bit as good if not better than Joana's, built for tourguide/tomtom.
What this means is rather than looking at what you need to do next, you have an arrow pointing where you need to go next. Auto-detects when you pick up/finish quests, blah blah blah.
It's beyond amazing these days.
^ this. I had carbonite down for a day once, i felt completely lost. It's an amazing addon.
Yeah, it works for any "On next" ability like that. I wouldn't recommend using it for something like Heroic Strike (Warrior) or Maul (Druid) necessarily but anything that you generally will be hitting anytime it's up that is an on next skill it's really useful.
So carbonite is also a quest thing or does it just integrate other quest addons into it? I dl'd it expecting a map but it changed a bunch of other stuff too
Carbonite is a gigantic addon that tries to do everything, yes it has its own quest database/tracker.
for soloing old heroic contents with a Pally, would you suggest :
Prot spec + Prot gear
Ret spec + Ret gear
Ret spec + Prot gear + Shield
Ret spec + Prot gear + 2H
thanks Plow, but one thing that's bothering me is that i already have a Holy raid spec + holy gear. So i wanted a second spec for a little fun or challenging soloes and I'm still puzzled if to pick Prot or Retri.
Prot or Ret gear isnt an issue since I can collect it anyway, but given that I have no interest in tanking lv80 heroics, should I keep my 2nd spec Retri or the benefits of Prot for solos are so high I'd have it as 2nd spec?
Is DK tanking any fun? I currently have both 64dk and 64war and am leaning towards DK to get to 80 first (mainly due to being less gear dependent and works with more arena comps).
A few warrior friends seem to love tanking on war, hoping DK is somewhat fun as well. Don't really want to spend half of the arena match in a shield but we'll see.
It depends on how much you wanna do, and what else you wanna do.
Ret is really good at killing things before they can kill you. High mitigation, tons of passive/instant healing, etc. to stay alive a good while, and waaay more dmg than prot. Curator as I mentioned, Shade, Skeram, magic damage fights where you need to kill stuff real fast and actually be able to get healing on yourself beyond s/jol even as prot, ret is amazing. All 3 of those specific fights are ridiculous challenges for prot (well, skeram not so much with NR, and curator not so much with AR), and pretty smooth overall for ret.
Prot is good at reducing damage taken to flat out zero. Nightbane, prince, that kind of stuff is just a complete joke for prot, and seriously challenging, if even possible, as ret.
Overall it's really going to be a personal decision. Don't forget that a holy build can have its roles in that stuff too, and I'd say it fills the gaps in either one fairly well.
Warrior tanking is sort of an exact science, DK is more or less "DPS in Frost Presence with tank gear on and use DnD/Pest/Blood Boil a lot while saving enough RP for Rune Strikes" according to the DKs I know.
So is tanking fun? I'd say yes, but I'm a Druid and Warrior (though I haven't tanked Warrior since BC). Is DK tanking fun? Wouldn't know until you tried, but I wouldn't base it simply on people from other classes saying they have a good time with it.
I made my DK a tank once it hit 80, and I have a ton of fun with it.I can't say as to comparing it to other classes though, as the only other 80 I have is druid, and it's not a rawrtank.
Warrior is pretty un-fun these days, with 90% of tanking weapons being 1.5 speed, HS spam can be quite literally painful.
I leveled my DK as dps but any blue tank piece I could get from a quest along the way I took so when I hit 80 I had a fairly solid base to start a proper tank set from. You really dont need good gear to level a DK fast at all.
