Cataclysm is months and months away, he's looking for something to do now. If he's going to wait that long he may as well buy some PS3/360 games and stop WoW altogether until then.

Which isn't an unreasonable suggestion, but Ice Crown isn't that far away, and levelling an alt only gets tedious when you have to get his rep up for enchants.

Think its more a case of new shit to do and look at while you level rather than the same grind as its always been like it is now.

Basically yeah, this is what I was getting at. I would focus on getting as many of your BC or Wrath characters to 80 and try and farm a decent amount of gold in prep for Cataclysm. I'd save all lowbie alts for cataclysm, as you will have lowbie goblin/worgen tanks and healers to level and instance with. No point in capping every every job now, when you will have a multitude of new(ish) zones and quests to run around in. Especially as Blizzard has gotten much better about quest/zone centralizing and keeping you local as opposed to sending you all over the place for to get to the meat of one chain.

How do the epic gem alchemy transmutes work. Is there a cooldown for each kind of gem or do they all share the same 20hour cd.

Don't be dumb, I was talking about the fact that it shares a cd with EVERY OTHER KIND OF TRANSMUTE. So I can either do a single gem OR an eternal conversion (handy if you have one type on hand and need another) OR a diamond OR titansteel (or titanium or whatever it is) OR arcanite OR...etc etc

It has to involve wow cause wow is taking up less and less of my time, but I play with friends, so I'm trying to find a way to keep interested and play with them anyway. And by interested I mean, rogue just isn't the same anymore to me (mainly raiding wise) so I was looking for something to do or level that would be. Just don't enjoy the class as much.

The idea of BC alts isn't a bad idea at all, the hunter only scares me cause it's in another friends name but I'll probably start with that.

tame a turtle, train it thunderstomp and laugh at everything as it crumbles beneath you. Seriously, turtle pets are fucking overpowered. (leveling BM is in general). It's really fun. You can send it into a huge pack of mobs and volley everything down.

Currently have a croc which is the same thing pretty much, everytime he gets attacked it attacks back or whatever (unless they changed it)

yeah its the same. just the croc's bad attitude for turtle shell, which halves all damage taken to the turtle for 12 sec is the only difference.

so hey just found out that if you are the owner of 2 accounts (that dont share the same last name) and merge them both to the same Battle.net, you can then transfer characters from one to the other and bypass the same-last-name thing that is supposed to be needed on both accounts (which is used to enforce rmt'ing).

I made plenty of money with Alchemy as a Flask spec. The transmutes are almost to much for a already profitable prof.

Man I gotta transfer to your server, Flasks are BARELY break-even on Kilrogg, you need the specialization to make any kind of profit. Pots are a loss.

It's only 'too much' if you proc a x2 transmute, and even then you're only making ~200 gold every 24 hours. If a profession can't beat doing 2 hours' worth of dailies then it's not very profitable. Meanwhile JCs/Chanters can make those margins throughout the day if they choose to. The consumables marked crashed right around the introduction of guardian/battle elixir limitations and hasn't bounced back, helped in no way by the flask nerfs later in TBC raiding.

First: Enchanting is one of the most expensive to level. Say what you will about providing your own mats, the opportunity cost if you're de'ing your own shit and using it to level is INSANE.

Second: Transmute spec does, in fact, *kind of* suck. But the only money I've made that even remotely compared to mining on a 310% drake with crusader aura, on any character, was my herb/alch rogue. Elixir spec is freaking bank.


There's no cooldown on elixir spec, and making 3 flasks at once, or 5 pots at once, from 1 set's worth of mats, is just crazy.


If there had been a transmute like the current epic gems in those days (haven't used rogue since 70), it would just be silly the amount of money I'd have been making from it altogether, even without transmute spec.

If cost to level to cap were the only consideration then Engineers are SERIOUSLY getting fucked. Blizzard just doesn't see the economic benefits of a trade skill as any kind of a priority, ever since e-j figured out which ones were the most DPS that's been the only consideration (unless you're a miner/herbalist). I'm not buying the 'enchanting deserves more profit because it's expensive' angle.

Crafting shouldn't make you stupid rich in one way or the other, but there should be SOME profit in it for you so you actually get to choose between earning money by crafting or earning money doing dailies/vendoring shit that drops, because right now there is only one clear winner here.

transmute spec is fucking terrible, your double proc never happens because you only get to try it once every 20 hours or w/e. (unless you're thinking of meta gem transmutes..... which are rarely less than 10g loss each because everyone skills up on them)

thinking of respeccing to flasks as even without elixir mastery, they make more money than epic transmutes considering you can buy those same epic gems for 10k honour.
