A friend did a system scan on both of his PCs after he did the update and found something called kaspersky. It says suspicious keylogger activity by pol.exe. Did anyone else find this?

Ok here's a different veiw on this.
And a few questions.
How many of you when you got the messages on main ancount or mule where anon in game? Also check your message list on POL if you have more then one handle and see which handle they messaging....cause in my case they were sending to a handle that I had deleted a long time ago when I didn't know how to play the game and when I found a server I liked and understood the game more I dumped the old handle and made two ones, one for my main char's and another for mules.
When these messages started up all the messages were being sent to "unknown user" and when I tried to reply it said..."Can not reply to this message cause message was sent to a detetled handle." Or something along those lines. So I got to thinking that they are prob sending to ppl's first handle they ever got when they joined FFXI/POL and had Jeuno/WG ah history.
And here's the second part...
Been also noticing that ppl who have Jeuno/WG history are getting the messages on mains and any mule ancounts.
So here's the another question.
How many of you when you check your handle have a char or mule linked to the handle getting the messages?
Cause if it's the handle/Jeuno/Wg ah history then they prob using FFXIAH to help look for ppl with ah history, some how hack the friend invite or message sending to mass send these...
Just a few thoughts and I know nothing of pc's past how to turn on them and such lol so it anything sounds farfetched sorry just a few thoughts from things I've been seeing on other forums and stuff I've been asking ppl in game.

Also got these messages on my 2nd acount which has Jeuno ah history and my b/f in game and rl has gotten them as well. So I'm think it's the ah history.

He found it with kaspersky? Because kaspersky is an antivirus program.

I'm not sure, he was telling us about it in our LS. He's Arabian so his english is a bit broken, but he said basicly there is now a keylogger on FF.

Alphabet could have something to do with it - although my character's name begins with a C, my POL handle begins with a R - and I've never got the RMT message spam. My fiance's handle starts with a C (his char name starts with a R which I'd never noticed the reverse of my situation pattern until now) and he gets the RMT message spam a lot.

With the in-game /tell spam messages - I always get them but he never does - which makes me wonder if they're just running down the alphabetical lists and get hoiked off before they get to the end of the alphabet.

Would fit with Wafik if his taru's POL handle is the same as the taru name I guess as well?

My Handles are Lordwafik (lordwafik's on that one) and Lordwaffles (Countwafik's on that one) so I doubt it!

POL has an onscreen keyboard which tracks your mouse clicks..which is what Keyloggers do.

I never got one of them huge cheap messages but they spammed my friends account everyday with them.

My experience was a combination. My account never got any messages or tells, my husband's character (only his main) got the /tell spam but no messages. Both our characters are the first characters on the accounts and should still be linked to the original handle we created them with. We do not camp kings or any other HNMs and have never even looked at an RMT website (don't want virusses). Our mule account got the messages sent to the handle name (only 1 handle for all 8 characters on the account) but no tells to individual characters. My husband and I are not hidden on POL, but the mule account handle is.

Very glad this will stop now... couple weeks ago my husband kept getting /tell spam during Nyzul assault, was extremely distracting and he had to go /away for a couple hours to get anything done.

As far as the people I know have talked it out, it seems like the ones who buy/sell certain items on the AH get RMT spammed quite often. I've never gotten a single message on any account, which might have to do with the fact that about the only AH activity I do at all is usually food or random synth materials. People who are buying high ticket items or other things of interest might have been targeted, just a theory.

Actually his antivirus probably FOUND kaspersky, it is a built-in antivirus program (on some PCs). A lot of antivirus programs flag others as being malicious, which is probably what happened. It's easy to overlook kaspersky because it's not readily apparent on a computer system most of the time, so it's a good bet he didn't even know he had it to begin with.


I wish SE would have fixed this sooner, it did take them a while, as with everything...but not TOO long ^^ Thank god no more gs messages!

I never got /tells, and received messages whether I was logged in or not. I only got a few of them though, and never more than one at a time. That last part was kinda creepy, like they somehow knew if I had deleted their previous one or not. Also my handle and character names both start with T, so that's probably why I only got a handful.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean if they cant hold the version updates anymore.....what are they gonna release next?

So I am attempting to download this update and it checks all the files perfect but then when it gets to the download part, it will begin to download pol.exe, get to about 5-6% then stop and say Network is busy or there are connection problems. But there is obviously not as I can get on the internet fine and everything.

I've tried restarting modem, re-installing POL and all that stuff

I've been attempting to do the update on and off throughout the day and it always would eventually end up on this screen

Assumably these would depend on how enthusiastic your general RMT spammer is at their job. I'd guess they were making an alphabetical progression on players at 75, and those in zones of particular interest (assumably king camps, chasm, merit areas).

Maybe those earlier in the alphabet got the main bulk of messages while people with later letters got less as the spammer got more bored and slacked. I know i was getting one every few days, while my mule beginning with J was more like once a week, and my friends with X or Z beginnings barely got any.

When I initially set up my first mule, I made him with a separate POL ID. I don't know why I did this at first, but I kept up with for all of my mules. So the POL IDs for the character progression goes like this:

Septimus, Benu, Quetzal, Yel, Feng Haung, Ho-oo, Simurgh, Angha. (Last two are deactivated mules from Mog Bonanza.)
Atum-Ra, Amun-Re

I did not get messages for Septimus, instead I got them for Benu. (Not the oldest character on the account, and a level 5 mule who never leaves Bastok.) I get messages for Atum-Ra, but not for Amun-Re. (Lower on the alphabet.) So yeah, this is some pretty random shit here.

SO glad they patched this finally! But, now let's just wait and see how long it takes the rmt to figure out a way around it. :/
