Monk was my first 75 job and I have to just agree with some of the above posts in the sense that the gear set I use is just the one that I *think* does the best damage. It really comes down to what you have and what you like. I use destroyers, tiph sting, turban, pcc (until faith torque someday 0/1352432534 drops), merman's and brutal, shura togi, bando kotes, rajas and snipers, foragers, black belt, byakko's, and fumas. I think the haste for feet *Feels* better for whatever that is worth. I also didn't see anyone mention the shura kabuto which I really like for WS. Also, my opinion of what *feels* right changes based on the day it seems like. Sometimes swap to osode for WS seems better and sometimes it doesn't. You should use the gear you like and the gear you have access to imo.

Math tends to show Fumas and Dunes as being very very close.

Personal guidelines on Dunes vs Fumas: The stronger your gear is, the more Dunes help you. The stronger the party, the more Fumas help you. Rough estimate: 18k/hr or more, use Fumas; 12k/hr or less, use Dunes; between 12k/hr and 18k/hr, depends on how strong your personal gear is. If you're carrying the majority of the party damage in the midrange, go with Dunes. If you're partying with roughly equal or better players, use Fumas.

i have 5/8 merits in h2h atm...finishing those up as we speak. i just feel like i'm not at full potential...thought about getting fuma's, but without BB/byakko's haidate am i going to see a difference really?
just keep what you have until you can get the stuff you really want. here are my suggestions:

-tiphia sting until you can afford/find a black tathlum
-full usukane set, maybe think about hissho hachimaki for ws
-peacock charm until you can get faith torque, sea gorget for ws
-ulthalam's ring, iota ring, divisor ring are some options for ring2
    -forager's mantle, black belt
-hermes' sandals to macro in for running around

I would only really use Usukane feet and maybe head untill i had the full set. But that's assuming a standard build, ie with Byakko's haidate. If you get Usukane legs before Haidate, i would wear them. But i wouldnt trade usukane legs for haidate without having the full set. I also wouldnt use usukane body untill full set, but thats rarely an issue, body is usually the last piece you get. In your case i would probably use usukane hands aswell, since i would suggest using noritsune + walmart turban in your case not Ohat and melee gloves. Other then that, i think most people have covered it, faith > Pcc > chiv, Black tathlum -> tiphia sting -> smart, black belt obviously.

I see your point, however, between full usukane, hade's sainti+1 and full evasion merits i dont think -4 is gonna do a terrible much. And being elvaan my hp is pretty generous anyways. But obviously black tathlum would be the absolute best choice.

If you happen to have a shitton of virtue stones laying around, won't faithnahks win in a merit situation?

I never parsed, but i dont see as much more then a toy. You need to watch out for when you run out of a stack of stones and need to change and using tp at 100%. More often then not i can find myself having been without stones for a while, and im often forced to ws at 120%. It's possible that they can win if you are really on top of things an entire merit pt, idk, but its to much work for me.

I use grenade over tiphia mostly because my mnk is our main tank for salvage and other low man events. Tiphia however is obviously the superior DoT peice, with black tathum blowing both out of the water (though out of reach for many currently).

Little question for the MNK main-tanking on Salvage mega-boss : Do you use Fuma full-time or do you switch to Dune ? AF2 feet ? Other ?

I personally use Dune Boots fulltime (til I get Usu, the 25 refuse to drop), another guy in team use Fuma, for bosses, both work so.
This probably dont help you at all though, just saying both works.

My experience tanking mega-bosses is pretty small, but I noticed that my 22% haste (BB + Byakko's + Turban) was good enough for utsu recast (with BRD & RDM support).

So for pure tanking purpose I don't think Fuma or Dune would be best there...it seems to me that AF2 feet would be good for this situation (HP+4%, Guarding Skill improvement, Counterstance improvement if you use it).

Of course using any feet armor won't make or break your tanking though Just wanted to know if people use AF2 feet at all for tanking.

I dont take tiphia sting of for tanking, it's -4 evasion and -25 hp lol. Before usukane feet i would use Fume full time. Now a days, more often then not im just /war and counterstance tanking bosses anyways.

Just curious, which zones do you usually do on /war and what do your typical party setups look like? I'm guessing it works well enough, if it can work without an obscene amount of support I wanna see if I can convince my group to let me try it sometime >_>

Surprised no one brought up goblin cracker.
Tradeoff of 6 evasion, 25hp for 2 attack.

We usually go MNK/WAR SAM/WAR THF/something BRD RDM WHM. The sam has even better gear then me tho. The safe ones are Zhayolm remnants, Bhaflau remnants and silversea remnants. You can use it in arrapago to, but mortal revolution makes it a littble bit of a gamble, but we are at the point where we only do bosses for the chance of some alexandrite, so we dont really care.

And yeah, i guess the fact that we do sam and mnk is important. Not only does sam have decent defensive capabilitys with their evasion, third eye and parry, so they can sub war to. But we get alot of free darkness skillchains for alot of dmg, so its really a quick fight. While we usually have a decent amount of mp left at the end, you wont last for an eternity so you need all the dmg you can get. (Sans hasso i guess) I use berserk, focus and counterstance as much as i can.
