Have to reiterate, there is no reason to take more than 2-3 people for the adds. Super tank + 1 healer with refresh = plenty.

Quoting for reinforcement. PLD/WAR or PLD/BLU(If you want to get fancy with cocoon) + Protect IV + tacos + Phalanx II results in tiny amounts of damage taken. GaIII + T4 spells from the ones that cast aren't even bad, if you don't have Aegis just use a decent -magic damage taken set you can swap into. Send your supertank in first so they get aggro on all of the adds, and then just have your other tanks grab the main NM.

none of them were "hard" for my ls per-say..but if i was to gauge them, it would be Gurf>medusa>jaja.

Gurf is a complete joke. 2 PLD/WAR to tank. If possible a good dmg red set will eliminate his only bad move, Head Snatch(stuff like haute, dring, jelly, valhalla h/b). Bunch of DD to crush him, kill repops downstairs to clear kite path every 15m.

Medusa wasn't too bad for us. She was a pain to tank at times, especially when she got in range of melee and all her TP moves started taking multiple shadows. She is really weak HPwise though and easy to push down fast.

JaJa was the hardest for us. Not sure how Merona solo tanked it because I felt he was the hardest to tank. I did solo tank him several times after my co-tank died but it was never pretty and I took a good amount of damage while trying. Overall he isn't hard, I just felt he was the hardest to tank.

1 PLD/WAR or PLD/BLU+2 healers(RDM+WHM best) for adds for all of them. For Medusa adds, focus on keeping PLD up until the adds run out of MP, then they are a total joke. Kite JaJa/Gurf adds, t2t Medusa adds and use Mgc Dmg- set.

Kinda odd that each LS has a different gauge on the difficulty level of each of them. Wonder if their strength is tied to the current beastmen level or something similar.

Using the RDM to draw out Vorpal Wheel made the fight significantly easier, as did Reprisal. That's really the best advice you can take going into Ja Ja, since that weapon skill is the most hurtful as he takes damage. Otherwise I changed nothing from the way I normally do things.

I did 2 of them with Mini, Medusa was an absolute joke and Gurf was...interesting, in the chinese proverb way. More because the adds starting doing weird stuff and went all over the place.

I think it's important to take into consideration that most of the people who have posted about this in this thread seem to be aegis, defending ring, hauticlaire plds or have access to them. Having that kind of gear changes these fights significantly I'd argue. I recently gave medusa a try having none of those thing and super tanking the adds were quite a bit more difficult, but part of that was due to underestimating just how much damage those black mage mobs do before they run out of mp. Our PLD was missing a fair amount of magic defense and damage reduction gear when we first tried and he got blown away pretty fast, so I'd definately plan ahead of time and bring some extra magic defense gear if you go that route. A COR giving magus roll really helped take the damage down as well.

Dual tanking the adds between a pld and rdm worked well, but the minute anyone outside of the kite party touched the rdm (Who was having a little bit of trouble tanking the cor adds) hate went really wonky and started linking on to the main medusa tanks, so I'd watch out for that too.

Medusa herself wasn't an issue to tank at all, even after she ran in at around 70%, you just need some white mages who are fast on the stona. We dual pld/nin'd her, but I kept hate the majority of the fight.

You don't need defending ring or aegis to cap magic damage taken on paladin, they just get you a few slots freed up for MDB. If you have PLD 75 and use it for any type of endgame, you should have a 50% magic damage taken setup(counting shell), fin.

I've fought them all several times now and didn't see anything different with varying Besieged levels.

Actually just fought Medusa again today and she was a joke this time. We took her down even faster then before. I would prolly rate Medusa and Gurf on the same scale now.

I guess the whole reason I see JaJa as harder is because he seems to take longer for us to kill.

btw, I don't have Dring or Aegis or Haut or anything and I tanked them all fine. You don't need any of those for these to be easy fights, you just have to know what you are doing. Supertanking is easy as well, the BLMs from Medusa do dish out alot of dmg if you get unlucky on spells so 3 healers might be better for the supertank but she is still easy as hell. (I don't even think our PLD had a magic dmg- set today since it was someone from outside our LS who needed title)

Yeah our guys don't have D.ring/haute/aegis blahblah and we've killed them all.

This thread is nice to see the different strats people use for the same mob.

I agree that you don't need super items, it's just nice to have the clarification which you guys just did~ Always hard to tell which linkshells have multiple crazy tanks and which don't around here which would arguably make these fights a 'lot' easier, especially using the supertank method.

my ls recently tried Medusa (with about 12-14 ppl, can't remember), the adds didn't seem to be a problem at all, but Medusa itself seems pretty hard to tank. Our pld has pretty standard gear (chainsaw, ares body, turban, homams, koenig shield etc) and had problem tanking it due to Shadow Thrust. It seems like everytime he eats that move he is immidiately in red and about 150 HP left (elvaan HP) and then if the healing is a bit slow, the next attack he is dead. He was our only tank (we will bring a co tank next time), but that move just seem too much to handle (wipes shadows and bring you to red) and it seems to be about the only problem we had. How do you guys counter that move?

Pre 70% it seems like you can just stay out of range so it doesn't tp move much, but how do you do it when it starts approaching.

Only thing to point out with this idea is watch for troll adds since they have that AoE Def Down TP move. It will kill cocoon pretty fast and that is very noticable on your MP reserves as a mage. For Troll adds I preferred a PLD/WAR for Defender over Cocoon.

I can't say for certain on this, but as a Hume with around 1750 hp, she'd rarely hit me with shadow thrust for more than 900-1000 damage with most around 500-600, but I was eating pescatora. Perhaps the added defense from the food helped? Seems hard to believe, but maybe? Was your pld eating anything for the fight?

This is important, also you might want to have your DDs stand away from your mages, I'm not sure if her < 30% TP move Gorgon Dance is 10' radial gaze or
just 10' radial but it's probably better to be safe than sorry.
