Medusa : 55k~
Gurfurlur : 72k~
Gulool : 60k~
Around -50% magic dmg reduction yes and one weakness to a particuliar element for each of them it seems. Medusa > earth, Gulool > ice and Gurfurlur > Water (?) Everything else is resisted to 50% even with the use of ES as for I know.
Ah sorry to ask another one...
When you say -50% damage reduction, then the thing about all but 1 element resisting, are these 2 things separate?
For instance, if on Medusa, if you use ES water on medusa, does it do 1/4th or 1/2 damage. Conversely does that mean Stone takes 100% damage?
1/4 for Water and 1/2 for Stone if you prefer. ES Quake II does about 700~ dmg (1/2) when ES Freeze II hit her for 350~ dmg (1/4).
Sorry for the necro bump.
How viable would it be to tank Gulool Ja Ja using 3 equally-geared melee/nin? If it uses that Vorpal move every time a spell is cast, that's rape to the face every 22 seconds with a PLD tanking it. Is there a way to bypass this? Merona mentioned something about a RDM handling the Vorpals, idk.
Would we be just better off using classic PLD/NIN tank, a couple of melee and BLMs to MB? Or just melee burn it down? We won't have more than 12 people I bet.
Thanks~
Vorpal move wont hurt a pld much, dont be worried about it.
Gulool is really easy Q.Q. Pld/ninX1~2, proper support, and pretty much any DDs (ranged damage DDs work decent if you are scared for your melee).
The adds can be super tanked by 1 pld and 2-3 support healers/buffers.
Thanks for the info. One last thing: assuming Aegis PLD tank, Joyeuse VS Hauteclaire? Tavnazian Taco VS Dorado Sushi VS Carbonara VS Pescatora?
If you have ES elegy, then you can joytoy/sushi, if not I would stick with tacos and haute.
how does anyone have a hard time with Medusa? i know plds have it harder time than rdms and nins because they cant shield block ranged attacks, but she attacks slow, the ranged attacks are as weak as Khim's melee attacks (which is pretty damn weak) and the AOE effects werent ever a big deal. i think we beat her in about 10-15 min. we had a a bunch of misc other plds to kite the adds (but the supertank method sounds better) and me and a full valhala aegis pld being incredibly bored. at one point i /sit in the middle of me having hate for a SS and i even whipped out katanas.
i dont see how medusa can cause anyone trouble. the only one i disliked was the one that nin and rdms cant tank because any nuke you throw at it will make him aoe you or some shit.
edit: nvm old thread
0/5 on Medusa. Help me out.
Here's our attempt this time, with what we learned the first run.
This party worked fine. Sometimes a PLD ate and EES but the other one could handle it until he unweakened.Tank Party:
PLD/NIN - tank backwards sharing hate
PLD/NIN - tank backwards sharing hate
BRD/WHM - marchx2 on tanks, balladx2 on mages
WHM/SCH - heal tank1
WHM/SCH - heal tank2
RDM/WHM - haste on tanks, refresh on tanks
Obviously worked.DD party 1
SMN/SCHx5, COR/WHMx1
Seemed to work fine too.DD Party 2
RNG/NINx4, BRD/WHMx1, something else (reserve WHM, reserve PLD, something)
OUTSIDE PARTY:
RDM/NINx4, WHM/SCHx1, BRD/WHMx1
Every time we'd get Medusa down to about 65% and a RDM/NIN would go down. 2 Lamie would double up on another RDM until he went down, lather rinse repeat.
Our "Oh Shit" we tried to move the SMN party over to hold adds while RNG's continued DD but 5 SMN and 5 Avatar on 4 lamia got confusing fast and we'd go down.
The best I can tell, RDM/NINx4 CANNOT RELIABLE TANK THE ADDS. Maybe if all 4 were top of their game amazing... but you can't always count on that and you never know. Even with great players something could go wrong.
After some thoughts, I'm wondering if beefing up the outside alliance is the only way? Obviously the problem here is convincing people to spent an hour gather, 30 minutes to camp and 2 hours fighting (if wipe) only to be in the outside party and get no drops and no title.
What about a single alliance with outside members on "Reserve" to be called in if someone dies? This was hinted at above as well. Does it work?
4 PLD, 4 Healers for the adds with 10 others to do Medusa herself?
I really need to win this, and unfortunately I no longer have a great HNM shell backing me at this time. Could I get some more reliable strats that worked for people on this fight? Maybe some tweaks on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
You can do one of two things:
Either get better rdm/nins or bring more pld/nin's for adds
Use one pld/sub whatever (we used dnc) to supertank the adds, give him 3 mages, rdm with phalanx 2 will help. We had the pld agro and run right back to entrance. His mages need to be fast as the adds can do alot of dmg at start. Seems like you have good set up except have trouble with adds. We found this the easiest but was a real bitch to get the keys lol.
Haveing just a tank party and ranger party on medusa will be fine, but rangers will pull hate near end.
