They won't introduce a new race because, as you say, they'd have to offer race changes to all existing players, which would cause a massive inbalance in FFXI's racial demographic (i.e. like 40% or more characters would be running around as this new race, Manthra or whatever it happened to be, unless it sucked).

Besides, what new race could they possibly introduce? We have the mage race, the melee race, the brick wall race, the agile/dextrous race and the balanced race already. And they won't add Manthra, because one of their fundamental characteristics is being extremely rare (it's even woven into the storyline).

I'm perfectly content with my Elvaan. I've seen the view from a taru's world and it's just too tiny for me to deal with that low camera.

Yeah, I have some taru mules and coming from a large Elvaan main, I just don't see how people can stand the taru viewpoint. Even if your taru is a fathead.

Considering how many mithra I see running around, there must be quite a lot of male mithra to maintain that population! Either that or the rare males that do exist get a whole lot of action. :O

This is something I have been griping about for years.
I agree completely that we should be able to have at least a one time event to change races, or faces, or names.
SE really needs to take into consideration how hard it is to start over if your unhappy with your toon.
I wasted 3 years on an elvaan mage only to find out when I finally got a clue about endgame (I'm a slow learner ) that elvaan mages are sub-par to a taru.
A friend bought me the game, and insisted elvaan was THE best race period, and of course I didn't want to question that, I just assumed (I know, I know, I should have researched it myself) he knew what he was talking about.
Not to knock elvaan, I love em to death, but just.. not for me.
So yeah, name, face, race change yes please SE.

I like being my Elv M, plastic surgeon does the job of changing my POV. Don't care what other people see as long as I can have the HP and STR of an elv and the cuteness of a taru, it's awwwwright. Just wish I had the mp of a taru. (*'-')

Personally changing you race seems to broken imo. SE could easily do it though but only if enough people wanted it. Changing race is pretty huge though just would be freaking wierd to see someone who was a Tarutaru F turn into a Galka.

Maybe, but that's not your problem. It's only a concern to the person making the change.

And what's broken? Say an Elvaan changed his race to Taru. Sure, he gets a leg up on all his magical jobs, but now he's just lost ground on his melee jobs.

That is, if we're still buying into the Brady Guide notion that race makes that much difference.

Why would I want to change from Team Awesome (elvaan M) to Team Sucksalot (Tarutaru, but everything else really)? That being said, I'd be midly tempted to change to a Galka, but that's what plastic surgeon is for.

I don't know if I'd change my race (though the idea of being something slightly sexier than a pedolicious girl taru is tempting ), but I would definitely pay like $5 to change my face/hair. I'm so tired of these pigtails.

More broken in the aspect of explaining through game function in other words there's really no way it could be an in game change. I guess I wouldn't mind if it cost money and you were limited to doing in on a monthly basis but switching for free with little to no time limit would be extremely broken and next to impossible to explain through an in game mechanic.
