I get home 5 to 5:30 but it takes me an hour+ to eat, have a wash and get relaxed before I go on FFXI so timing is good IMO. Only the 5 to 12 AM ones piss me off.

Don't know about that. Last downtime I was #3 back onto the server (Midgar), and I'm NA. I've also been #13, #16, and 30-something.

Maybe you're just unlucky? Maybe it varies by something other than country? Maybe god hates you?

I've been one of the first people on too. But this time, those two were on a bare minimum of 4 minutes before I was able to get on. Plenty of other JP players logged on after I did, so I guess it's some backdoor this LS knows about (Think they've had claim when Fafnir was up on server up every time I've been there) rather than Square going back to letting the JPs on 5 minutes before NAs as used to be the case.
