Even if it's easier, I'm still not a big fan of the gameplay. Main reason why I'm beating those games is for the story, and spending an additional 10-20 hours isn't necessarily a good idea in my case (especially with the semester starting monday).

In the end, playing on hard will just make me grind more probably instead of giving me more challenge.

I got this for Christmas from my A.M. Barely started a few days ago, playing on Expert. Cleared Yukiko's Castle, it wasn't so bad but I am sure the game will get harder. All you really have to do is save often.

Oh. I have to admit I really like this a lot more compared to P3. The shadow selves is something from P2, and it really reminds me a lot of the game altogether. Which of course is a great thing, I still say they should allow everyone to be able to change Persona but maybe 5 (which I hope comes out after SMT IV) will address that.

Oh it gets harder lol, just wait and see (I'm looking at you Void Quest, dun dun dun dun dee do dun dun.. dun dun dun dun dee do dun dun...etc, the music was amusing at least) Yukiko's castle was nothing.

Void Quest was awesome.

The only dungeon that gave me trouble was the Secret Lab, and after getting a couple more levels it was smooth sailing too.

The game definitely gets harder though, and not retardedly hard like Hard mode on FES.

Probably going to pick this up later today. One thing I didn't like about P3 was that after a short while fighting in Tartarus your party members would leave you. Is there a way to grind/level as I see fit in Persona 4 or is there something like the system from 3 that restricts you leveling per day?

No one gets tired in 4, but on the other hand.... you don't recharge your sp by leaving the dungeons. So once your MC runs out of sp, you're pretty much done for the day. (You can recruit a fox from the shrine who will restore your party's sp for a certain price, and it gets cheaper as you raise his Social Link, but it's really not worth using his services until the final day of the true ending... on that day I used it like 20 times, but I made a lot of money in each farming/xping session so it wasn't a big deal.)

Quick question, is this worth getting over P3:FES? Never played any of the games in the series, and was looking into picking up P3:FES due to its ratings/price, but then P4 just had to come out....

Will I be missing out on much by getting P4 instead? I'm assuming the plot-lines are not connected from game-to-game.

God yes, P4 is a lot better than this. No there is no connection really except one thing I heard of but even then I would consider it insignificant, much like Persona 3 altogether.

Different stories, go ahead and get whichever one you want... but I recommend playing both eventually.

P4 DOES have some P3 references, but they're mainly there for fan service... once you play P3 and then go back to P4 you'll recognize all the cameo appearances, etc. It's really not a big deal though.

Haven't played P4 enough yet, but P3: FES (The Answer bonus game particularly) has some of the best character dialogue I've seen. Probably worth playing both, if P4 is anything like P3

Eeeeehh, why did I had to look at the jp voice actor list?

Rie kugimiya, Yui Horie (minori in toradora) , Ami Koshimizu (karen/horo), the guy who did Sousuke voice in FMP...etc Most of my favorite voice actor are there.

It's not bad or anything, but I'm sure we are missing out on a much better cast. Chie was probably the biggest downgrade so far, because I really like the original VA (and reconfirmed it after listening to cutscenes on youtube).


That aside, the game is okay so far. I'm kinda annoyed at Chie and Yosuke for panicking all the time, but maybe they will change once they get used to this. I really miss Junpei now...That guy wasnt freaking out every time something weird happened.

Yeahhhhh, Stupei would only run 10 cranes ahead and fight shadows by himself because he was jealous of the MC. >.>

I like Yosuke better. Yosuke/Teddie/Kanji are awesome comic relief.

We will see. Junpei's action actually made sense to me most of the time. He was funny at time, but that's not what I liked about him. Yosuke just seem like your typical "other guy" you see in most anime based on visual novel/dating game... I have yet to be impressed, but I'm still early in the game. I didn't like Junpei till a few months in.

I ended up picking "hard" mode. I was worried my penis would shrink when they gave me the choice if I was going for something else.

I guess you were right about the game being easier.... I haven't wiped a single time in a normal encounter, and only once in a boss fight (secret hideout's boss was homo and killed me in 1 turn on my first attempt). In overall, it's pretty easy to clear a dungeon (including the bonus boss and quest) in a single night. At first, I was using invigorate to heal my sp (bring your MC solo in a old dungeon and guard until he is full), but now, I'm just paying the fox out of lazyness.


Story is great so far. The setting doesnt have an "epic" feeling (ie: save the world), but it's pretty captivating anyway. Heaven was the last dungeon I completed, and they are setting up the story for a nice final. I seriously can't wait to see what happen near the end, even if a faqs kinda spoiled the ending (I'm not really surprised tho, always thought he was the culprit).


Gameplay wise, I think it's a huge improvement over P3. They fixed a lot of annoying stuff and more importantly, they sped up the gameplay a lot. Battle are much faster now since you don't have to hit every monsters one by one when they have different weakness, and you don't die as easily. The world map is also hundred time better...You can get to any social link in 20sec, and they don't make you run nearly as much.

Most characters are pretty good again, just like the one in P3. None annoyed me as much as Yukari , and in overall, I think the interaction are better in this one (although, Aegis and Junpei are still my favorite).

The girls social link were better in this game as well, but they should really write better script for them. I'm not sure if it's the lack of answer from the MC that make those monologue so awkward, but most dating events make them sound really shallow or just plain stupid.

Anyway, great game. Gonna try to finish it tonight if I can

Why the doctor didn't do shit when Nanako's heart stopped? They all stood there and said "I'm sorry". You could at least try to bring her back or something...
