One member ran out of tags for Nyzul tonight, grabbed a pickup SAM to fill the spot. Got to boss floor, no meds, died halfway through boss and when Askar dropped? You bet he tried to lot it after saying he was going for Denali!
Guy DC's/has to pick up his sister from airport/"emergency" on 5th orb, others dont have time for looking for a replacement, etc. Hours wasted(happened more than once).
Not to mention the dumbfucks wiping to Scorpion KS. I stopped wasting my time with pick up BCNMs... not like its hard to find people among friends and organize a run anyway.
Player(moron) No1: "Hey guys I need to pick my sister up from airport I'll be back in an hour is that ok?"(what a coincidence, right after his orb!)
Player No2: "k lol"
Player No3: "sry i have to go fam diner sry guys l8r"
Player No4: "wen will he come back"
Player No2: "idfk lol"
Player No4: "lol^^"
Player No:4: *red dot*

Most of my pick up bcnm runs were frustrating one way or other. Maybe I was unlucky..
I think its generaly more convenient to do such events with LS members, especialy if its in a week where you have a lot of events.
ZNM - Id go along for tier1/2 maybe tier3 but i would never consider using my own pop tier4 pop in a PUG, its just too much time spent aquiring the zeni/pops/killing to risk on a bunch of randoms. Odly enough i saw a shout for limbus last night for the very first time (JP player) which i thought was pretty unusual.
If you stay in whitegate long enough, there's several shout Limbus pugs on Phoenix
Usually it's the same people though, and people known for pugs, like Thanhvii (got ares legs and body? from pug salvage)
i dont do pickup because i like....items(thats the whole idea if you arent helping or going with friends) if i go with a pick up group we dont have a lot system or DKP system that tells me who is next...so for example i might end going for usu feet 35 many times because i lose the random on it, to a different person each time.
Asura sure does a lot of PUG stuff at least in the EST prime time (ZNM, Nyzul, Kirin, Sky Gods, Dynamis) regularly, not sure if this happens too at the OP prime time. Even a couple of days ago i saw an Ouryu shout lol, only thing left for me to see is some Jailer shouts...oh Asura...
I don't do pickup ____ because I'm:
1: Paranoid. I don't want some sketch dude fucking me over.
2: I have very high standards. My Nyzul static was a perfect machine. It was beautiful and we lost pretty much...never. Same with my assault static. If I went and did a pug assault or Nyzul, I'd end up screaming at people.
3: I can just force my ls to do things for me! "Hay guys, I just scheduled Harijnate event, GET ME GENIE FEET MWAHAHAHAHA" (Not really, but yeah. Running an LS means I don't need to do PUG sea/sky/einherjar/dynamis, I can just run them) >.>
the majority of shouts lately on Fairy are for pickup Nyzul parties... the rest just don't happen for everything mentioned already (they aren't designed for a quickie)
There is nothing wrong with pickup if it's done right.
Totally agree with this. If a pick up is done right, and people listen to the leader, you should be ok. Personally i very rarely do any pickup parties but that is because i am in a end game shell and most things i need a party / alliance for i can get help from LS. I have joined a couple pick up partys (DM comes to mind) and they went well as long as people listen to things like strat properly and dont argue about stuff. Problems with pick up events come in when there are money items involved, or high priority items that everyone wants. If it is something like a KSBC or something like that, pickup's normally dont have too many problems.
There were at least 2 shout pug JOL fights back when I was on Asura. They won both times, but I have no idea how they handled the loot.
Sell/split earring or don't even bother...lol. I'm sure whoever was running was after torque? Or they just felt like popping in spite of the LS they left and took the set from? Who knows. This is news to me...I never heard about this and word usually travels fast on Asura...very very fast if it's good enough.
On topic...I prevent myself from doing most things via pug if I have something to lose. The main reason is inconsistency. I won't risk my pop sets, or gil, or mass amounts of time/xp for something that could very likely end in failure. I get extremely frustrated when dealing with ignorant players and my wife can vouche for that, lol. If you're doing something, pay attention and put out, or get out. /holds back the rant.
So basically, if you're not willing to accept the fact that ANYTHING can happen, don't do it. Simple as that.
They were mostly JPs in that group. I remember a few NA BLMs were part of it, but it was sometime last year. Not really any gossip, just sorta... ohok it happened. It was kinda cool to watch back then. They used 2x rdm tanks, nin and melee vokers for the adds > melee'd down, and a pure manaburn setup on jol.
Anyone on Unicorn remember the night one guy was shouting for hours about doing pickup vrtra? Was PLD he started shouting for hours in whitegate about getting a group, everyone kept telling him it was a dumb idea, then it got into the whole "its my $XX.XX so I can do what I want!" crap.
iirc they got enough people to head down there but wiped multiple times on the way to Vrtra and called it a night.
was maybe 2 years back?
There's just too much risk involved in doing a pick-up anything. Too many people are just bloody morons these days. Sure, some of them would turn out fine and the whole pick-up group could potentially become great friends, all trust-worthy people, etc. But with how the "average player" is, it's not likely to happen that way at all.
I'd rather do events that drop valuable loot with established friends that I can trust to be both capable players and honest lotters. I would not be able to put myself in a position where a rare, valuable drop (say, a Macha's Coat) would be ninja-lotted by whatever dumbfuck stranger has level 50 BLM as his only mage job that he "plans on finishing sometime soon".
