Tanking Setup - Stats Importance

What stats are of what importance to a warrior tanking? Never really done it but making a setup for it and want to build for whats good.

Basically any hard numbers that i should aim for on things like defense/evade/parry, and then importance of hit rating/stam/str.

[Correction]

Defense rating till you're uncrittable (689 versus a raidboss), then balance the rest of your stats. They put a lot of the avoidance stats on diminishing returns so don't go too far in one direction.

Pretty sure gemming for stam is still preferred for progression raiding, putting expertise/dodge gems in red slots to meet meta gem requirements.

You need to get your defense to 540, which is 689 defense rating.

Gem for stam (unless hurting on def rating), agi/stam for red sockets incase you need to activate a meta.
Enchant for defense. Parry & threat to gloves is pretty epic.

Anyone have any experience with DKs yet? I've been doing it and been generating around 2ktps as unholy dps in tank gear on some trash bosses in Drak'Thul/Azjol etc... (taking that with a grain of salt, I know there are adds for a few of those bosses which probably contributed)

My biggest question is what to look for in a weapon (or weapons? as frost), I get that it won't matter at 75 but I'm in the habit of planning ahead as to what 5mans I want to grind out first. Hit cap seems like to much of a drag on other stats to validate DW right now, but I'm still not quite sure as to what to look for most in a 2h wep.

e.g. slow vs. faster, +hit/expertise(i'm sure this relies on other pieces of equip too), just +stam/+str on it? i haven't taken a real deep look but I don't think i've seen many 2handers with def~stats on them.

The Titansteel 2 hander is a good choice for when you just hit 80. Pretty sure it's better than the weapon out of heroic HoL because it has hit instead of haste (not sure on the stats, I just know hit > haste).

I run Naxx 10 and 25 with a DK MT. He's Unholy spec, though.

right now only things i see are the ebon blade sword or the bs one, neither of which have real tanking stats other than stam and hit

You can get a tanking weapon from an elite quest in Zul'Drak (Ragemane) other than that there wasn't a better pre-instance weapon until I did a long long quest chain in Icecrown. Of course by the time I did that quest I had already been 80 a while and got my Red Sword of Courage...

yea i saw that, i may get it when i can, i just literally have never had any tanking gear, so i'm getting fully geared up with stuff i can get on my own before i start running instances to get some ;p

Good luck with that. The only non-instance gear for tanking are the crafted BS pieces. Almost NO quest gear is tanking stuff. It was really really annoying as I leveled and I DE'd 99% of all the quest rewards not because they weren't upgrades (I'd find higher iLVL gear) but because they didn't have defense on it. I could get more str/stam off pieces but with no defense it really isn't worth it.

I'd say get the blue BS crafted stuff, some of the purples if you can afford it (only the shield is really worth it honestly, it has a fuckload of defense, the other two are mostly just a huge amount of stam) then run some of the normal instances for tanking stuff. Halls of Lightning has an excellent defense trinket. Once you're at 21-22k unbuffed health and 535 defense skill you should be able to tank all the heroics just fine, only issue being your group and not knowing the instance.

that's what i tank in minus the gloves and weapons(i use 2 1h weps to hit def cap - actually hit 549) I need to upgrade the belt most def but everything else is pretty much heroic upgrades.

already made myself the shield, am wearing a good bit of the bs stuff for spare pieces that didnt have better quest rewards, not too many gear slots left to fill with starter stuff at least, but yea, i love the titansteel shield wall.
