Tanking Setup - Stats Importance

Ppl here might forgot to mention some things.

priority

1. uncrit 540 for raid, 535 for heroic
2. At least 23-25k with blues (stack gem)
3. enchanting your armor with +def rating
4. if you get to uncrit without enchant, go for expertise rating > hit.
5. after u get uncrit, always go for expertise until get at least 23 expertise with talent (not rating).
6. then can focus on shield block value or AP for more threat, and also hit

Anyone have any tips for DK tanking? I'm starting to level mine up as blood so I can DPS/Tank as needed. Seems like there's zero tank plate in zangar/HFP, so i'm probably just looking at gemming up for defense rating/str.

honestly you won't really need any 'tanking' gear until you hit about 70, where you'll start to get some decent blues from dungeon quests, along with select 'dps' gear that just happens to have a shitton of stamina on it

i'm unholy and so far i've had no trouble tanking or DPSing with what i've got for tank gear/dps gear, just as long as you have some decent HP (should be 14~15k easy with frost spec up and some quest greens at 70 from wotlk areas), even at 75 my avoidance really isn't all that high but i've just got around 16k~ unbuffed hp...it works, it's easy, just aoe everything if you're unholy

Mongoose is probably still the best tanking enchant afaik.

Also, Stam is *the* tanking stat beyond the defense cap, avoidance is on DRs so gearing for it isn't worth it. More stam makes you less spiky in damage taken and has a much larger impact on TTL than any other stat. Don't ignore avoidance but don't plan for it either, 20 stam > 20 agi.

The erratic defense bonus from the agility on a proc of mongoose isn't that great. For a warrior or pally tank BC Potency is a good choice, so is a Titanium weapon chain.

To OP and anyone else with related questions, an amazing site a lot of people I know use, myself included, is maxdps.com - it's used mostly for, you guessed it, DPS, but has prot stats in there as well. Basically its a culmination of theorycraft and formula grinding to create one, simple, easy-to-use website that will basically tell you what gear to get, what enchants are best, gems... the lot.

You don't necessarily have to go with the gear choices it suggests, especially as, say, Protection Warrior, as the threat vs. defense slider can sometimes suggest odd things, but its great for finding gear upgrades, enchants available, etc.

Only reason I suggested Mongoose is because of the unbound PPM, it may not be reliable but if you're already using a quick sword then you might see it up more often, which = faster rate of hit in general, which = better threat overall to my knowledge. I'd prefer it over a meh 20 strength.

But it doesn't matter because I forgot that Stam 75 enchant was coming, that would definitely trump anything else.

Meh 20 strength is pretty awesome nowadays though, don't forget, at least on Warriors, Paladin YMMV. You're getting boosts to that Strength, along with Block Value, and boosts to that through talents, which is reflected in Shield Slam, further so by other talents 8)

Nice, hope the stam enchant is trainer taught with decently reasonable mats & has a nice blue glow effect to it. With the extra 2% stam pallies are getting I'll be sitting at 34k hp unbuffed easily.

JC gives you two decent trinkets, it's how I was able to start doing heroics so quickly after getting 80. There's the EoH dodge one, Essence of Gossamer from hAN, Rune of Repulsion from hSapph, and Repelling Charge from Thaddius.

yea i dont have jc, miner/bs, any ones that arent from heroics? just have to be something to start with, dont feel comfortable going straight into dungeons ive never done before
