Its true though.. California's economy was being propped up since March by the dramatic increase in catering, wedding hall rentals, floral displays, band hirings, etc that come with weddings. Same thing looks like its gonna happen in CT now that we legalized it too... And it will likely be repealed in the 2010 election if not by the CA supreme court earlier. Only reason it did pass now is cause of old bigoted people of all races in CA, as their numbers dwindle yearly cause they are old any shot the Mormons/Evangelicals had of this thing staying permanent disappears.

Exactly. I still have images of the church saying "Gay marriage leads you to the life of beastiality and people would undoubtedly challenge the ruling by marrying their dogs". I dont get how a "tolerant, loving" religion can be so spiteful and hateful towards particular people.

Live and let live, if it does not infringe on your way of life why does it matter? I have never had a homosexual knock on my door at 8:00am on a Sunday asking me if I was "saved" or if I have "found christ", so I fail to see how it can be much worse. I hate this stupid fucking law so much.

Religions seem to teach to be "tolerant, and loving" only if you agree with them and fit into their idea of what you should be. It is easy to be tolerant if you force everyone to be the same.

I'd just like to state for the record that I have no problem with gays getting married, I'm just annoyed that a lot of them think that their being denied the right to legally wed is on the same level as slavery.

Hmm, I haven't seen that analogy. I've heard a lot say it is like the civil rights denials post slavery, but not slavery itself. It is clearly a civil rights issue so I'd agree on that analogy.

The stupidity is in believing that majority rule = justice for all. Hence the analogy. Here's a song to help you understand:

Correction said it best. If you want a closer analogy, then consider the prohibition of same-sex marriage to the prohibition of interracial marriage.

Did the musical intruding on your playground turf make you mad? Are you going to take your ball and go home and watch pretty cartoons the Japanese people make to console yourself? Awww, maybe mommy will give you a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some milk and make it all better.

I see that analogy made almost every single time I see a topic about this. Hell, someone even semi-said it in this thread. And that analogy always turns me away from supporting this, it's just such an absurd analogy and the implication insulting.

Obama's an overly political douchebag, like Schwarzenegger, when it comes to gay marriage.

I love it, Neil Patric Harris and Jack Black were both hilarious.

You mean that he's a fundamentalist Christian, but he didn't want to lose any Democratic votes, right?

I mean he's a christian, but believes that certain christian beliefs should not become enshrined in the supreme law of the land.

I thought it was funny how the pick and choose argument was used the wrong way. To say you can't pick and choose views/beliefs from the bible means that you should take either all of the views/beliefs or none of them. Picking and choosing views is actually what you want to do.

Also thought it was funny how Prop 8 passed yet the musical rendition seemed to indicate it didn't.

    Some demographics:
    Code:
    Group % Yes % No
    Obama voters 21 73
    McCain voters 84 13
    Identify as non-partisan 31 60
    Female voters 42 51
    Male voters 46 47
    Voters over 65 62 32
    Identify as conservative 87 10
    Identify as liberal 10 86
    Identify as moderate 40 51
Live in coastal counties 39 54
Live in inland counties 57 37
    White non-Hispanic 44 50
    Latino 46 48
    African-American 49 43
    Asian-American 41 51
    ------------------------------------------|
    High school education 62 27<-----
    ------------------------------------------|
    Post-graduate education 33 61<-----
    ------------------------------------------|
    Protestants 60 33
    Catholics 44 48
The two I arrowed were most impressive to me. The HS people who didn't go on to college and college grads had such a huge disparity, not the largest but seriously think about what that means.

I can ignore the picking and choosing of beliefs and stuff but when it affects other people in such a way then it's not cool.

like using the example in the musical, why do they now ignore stoning your wife or selling your daughter... because those are people and it'd be absurd in this day and age.... amirite? gay people aren't people. They're abominations. so, the picking and choosing argument still stands.

I think what people should do is go-through with another video on that site and try and get a prop to prohibit divorce.
