digital camera suggestions?

i saw the camera thread but since it was about professional cameras and stuff... i figured it wouldnt really fit in there

tomorrow i am heading over to a club with gf to watch nujabes (FUCK YES). ive always wanted to buy a digital camera but have been putting it off due to no motive for real usage but tomorrow i feel it is a must-have item lol

preferred price range is around $400usd max, something that'll last for quite a while. i wanted a sony cybershot back in the days but not so sure now...

going to work in about 5 minutes, coming back at midnight so if anyone could put up suggestions for good, decent priced dicas i'd be obliged. once im back ill read this thread and go straight to sleep, and after school around noon ill be heading over to buy one so im putting my trust in you guys thx

If you can get one of these on eBay, you might be able to swing it for less than $400:

Try searching for just the LX3, taking off the K, if you need to.

It is probably the best digital camera you can get in that price range that performs amazingly well, like a pro deal and all. Most other cameras are going to be overpriced turds (meaning you could've spent $150 and received one that's as good as a $300 version).

Either try to get that, go for an Olympus E-420, or just buy a highly rated, low price camera. Like speakers and a lot of other devices, camera quality is almost always in big tiers (e.g., good cameras are in the $100-$800 range, pro cameras are in the $800-$2,000 range, etc.). So spending $300 is not necessarily better than spending $100.
