Having someone summon Alexander and it just sit there spamming 'Ω' in the text log would be pretty damn funny. The first few times.

FINAL FANTASY XI
God, I hope so. I don't recall where they said they were dealing with "really large models", but either way, I hope and pray we get both Alexander and Odin.
Worst case, if they add them, they make you pick one or the other. Or they don't give them to us because of the continuity issue of possibly summoning Odin during ToAU 44, thus ending the fight immediately and proceeding directly to the epic but anticlimactic cut scene.
On topic: good show SE for having the update so soon!
Well, aren't Odin/Alexander one of the avatars who are actually the avatars themselves?
The elemental avatars are just that..avatars, projections..we're not actually summoning the avatars themselves, with Alexander, I think it was just the will/spirit of Alexander?..and Dark Rider is just the projection of Odin from Einherjar?
That's exactly my point.
I'd say that the Dark Rider and Iron Giant are more or less the avatars (or a form of Avatar) of Odin and Alexander respectively. My point was that in the Avatar battles, it's weird fighting say, Titan Prime with....Titan. Same weird shit with poping Odin or Alex out in the ToAU 44 fight.Originally Posted by Destinye
How often to BCNM battles actually reflect what is happening in the plot? Where were all my friendly NPCs in almost all of the CoP battles? WHERE!?!?! D:
Lets not forget Diabolos in his own dynamis etc
The surprise in the update will actually be the unimplementation of the summoner job due to multiple continuity issues in regards to the summoning of avatars during storyline events.
Seriously, though:
Yes, they are the light and dark avatars of the celestial avatars.
The dark rider and iron colossus, I believe, are important because, to our knowledge, Alexander and Odin do not have their own protocrystals as the others do. It's believed Odin's is the dark crystal seen shattered during CoP, and Alexanders was likely destroyed when Odin fought and destroyed Alzadaal form of the avatar.
Without their protocrystals, they are instead forced to rely on other means to anchor themselves in our plane. Odin chooses strong warriors to project himself through. Alexander chooses to possess and control certain giant automatons.
Edit: forgot to include the rest of my points...
Finally found it.
Cait Sith sure as hell isn't big and Ixion is around as big as Titan. Odin, even his non-horse model, is larger than Diabolos. Alexander is a fucking boulder with a bunch of moving parts. Pretty sure they'll be added, even if they have a lot of edits done to them.
Thanks for that. I missed that detail in all the fan fest wrap ups. Knew they were testing, didn't know it was that particular reason.
I know both are huge (swapping the Alexander dat with Carbuncle is fun and amusing), so it makes sense. There is a smaller version of Alexander in the dats, of a completed Alzadaal Ruins, specifically. I'm not sure if it was actually used in the CS with the map and tiny model of Alexander, or any CS for that matter. They could use that, though it would need additional animations beyond floating idly.
Yea, but the TM44 version is the 'cool one.' Also, the shiny version has no animations other than floating and isn't all that big (that I've noticed, anyway.) Basically, if they were fixing up the map version, I think it would be taking less work than they're implying. The mission version is definitely the larger and more complicated of the two, so the extra time to fiddle with it makes more sense (fixing the base model and going over the branching animations with a fine-toothed comb).
The immobile Alex model wouldn't make sense since it's physical and not ethereal or something. But then again PUPs can summon something larger than a Tarutaru out of nowhere and Naja does mention that archaia can somehow replicate (so Alex might have the ability to make matter out of nothing). If they do make it the immobile one, maybe they'll make him more powerful (as it already has a disadvantage) and possibly more EXP/merit-friendly since it won't be as useful for events (perhaps that "aura" idea some people had).Yea, but the TM44 version is the 'cool one.'
