lol, they changed the main character animations, added a whole but of new ones etc. They have new animations for the places that matter, who gives a shit if the main cannon fodder of the game has the same animations of the last game? They're only there to die, not dance for you. Although a spear chucking zombie would be awesome. If the whole game ends up recycling animations then I'll be annoyed, but not enough to miss the game completely.

The "cannon fodder" is what you spend most of the game looking at, so I would like to think it matters a little.

You spend most of the time wondering how you're gonna kill them, does it honestly matter if their animations (which mostly involve dying) are generally the same? I mean, there are honestly legitimate complaints to be had about the game, but animations being the same as RE4 is just over doing it. Should I complain if I find out they recycled some textures as well?

I think I need to change the run button from where it currently is - I hate not being able to run and move the camera at the same time - I need to see where I'm going! Maybe move it to R2.

Another thing I forgot. Couldn't you move and shoot at the same time in Outbreak? I don't like having to stand still in RE5, but with a partner covering me its not so bad. RE4 was ok 'cause the enemies mostly came from one direction.

Cant move camera while running, if I remember correctly from playing el demo.

Outbreak had the controls of games like MGS, meaning left=left (not spin left) , right=right (not spin right), Not sure about the shooting, but I think you can shoot and walk/run.

Overall RE5 seems to be a cheap copy off RE4, same enemies with same weapons and movement, same main character controls, same gold/jewelry thing. 4 didnt have any awesome puzzles, so I hope this one does.
But then again RE1-3(and X) were the same, so why not 4 and 5? Anyway I'll buy it cuz I'll probably be bored at the time, and the Co-op thing looks awesome.

Co-op is greatness...but at the same time the added Co-op is the last nail in the coffin to completely turn change this series from 1-3. It's not even RE anymore... I know I will still like it though, as I played the hell out of RE4.

But this is like making Final Fantasy a multiplayer game and numbering it part of the series.

Some reused textures isn't really the same thing as all basic enemies using the same animation set as all basic enemies in RE4. Some random textures you're not going to notice, copy/pasted animations on all basic enemies you're going to notice the entire game, I certainly did in the demo. Of coarse it's not a huge deal, but on a high budget game like this, it does look bad. Not that the game is looking too hot anyway...

What I really hate is how they reversed the shoot/action button and run button from the gamecube layout, with no option to change it from what I could see. Hopefully the finished game will have more control customization...

I wish everybody would actually explain what's wrong with the controls instead of just saying they are horrible. You know there are options to change them to the original way? (RE4)

I, for one, love the controls. I'll be buying this game purely for it's online co-op option. I've played the demo countless times now, and co-op, even with bad partners, is great fun. This will be awesome on harder difficulties.

You can run by pushing the left stick in. Everywhere i read about this demo the more people i see that absolutley hate this game which shocks me cause i love the demo and loved RE4. But this is the internet and everyone has different taste so it doesn't bother me so much. Can't wait for this and SF4. Capcom ftw this gen.

The controls are fine, to me at least. They feel basically like RE4, the live-swapping of stuff takes a bit of getting used to though, but the fast-swapping with the D-pad is really nice. Played the co-op online with a friend, it was freaking awesome. I can't imagine any gamer who even slightly likes this type of game passing it up.

    Also, wth Hi Grifter!

Complaining about it is absolutely the same. It doesn't directly harm your enjoyment of the game, it's just a nitpicking thing people point out because they want to bitch about the game for any possible reason.

I don't get it either. I mean, if the people who hated the controls in RE4 hated them in RE5 I could completely understand. But I bet that isn't even the case, there are a few control layouts (if you even bothered to look at the options) that make the game as easy to play as RE4 was.

Alright, I'll try to explain the controls as best I can. Left analog moves, right analog aims. Hold the left trigger to get into your ready stance. While holding the left trigger you use the right trigger to shoot. Hold the left bumper to get your knife ready, and the right trigger slashes the knife. The inventory is tied to the D-pad so you can switch weapons and equipment on the fly. To pull a quick 180 pull down on the left analog while hitting the A button.

The items menu is clunky. Hit Y to enter it, highlight the item you want and click on it. The options come up where you can equip it, combine, drop, use, or give it to your partner. You are unable to shoot while moving. You can't use your knife while moving. So you must be stationary when using a weapon when you know enemies are coming up behind you.

I'm used to the controls from RE4. But for someone who's never played RE4, the control scheme could be overwhelming to them. It has a steep learning curve.

Yeah, I totally understand and agree with you. I just think people write it off too quickly when they haven't gotten a chance to get used to it. As someone who's played every Resident Evil game (well, not every, but all the good ones) the concepts presented in RE4/5 aren't that new or strange. The only thing that's hard to get used to is the item menu, unless that changes it'll be the one true crippling thing about RE5. It's weird enough to access it when nothing is going on, but to do it in the middle of a fight is impossible.

I enjoyed the demo. I think the game is tight. The controls were a little wonky coming from RE4 Wii, but I think with practice I'll get used to it.

One thing I will miss is the inventory control that we had in RE4. I actually enjoyed trying to utilize my inventory space with the grid cases. So I'm a little disappointed this is gone, or was it just not in the demo?

Week 1 for me on this game.

Saying any resident evil's controls are awkward is like telling people that water is wet.

If you guys think RE4's controls suck, go play RE:1 and tell me how much you like it

I miss Resident Evil 1. Wish I never got rid of it. I don't have issues with the controls. Like you said Wafik it's kind of a given. But I understand how someone who's never played the series could give up real quick because of them.

Yah I was sooooo frustrated when I first picked up RE1 (Remake on GC), in my head I was like "Wow they even remade this game and the controls are still stupid????), but once you put in your head that the control system is how it is for good reason, it all clicks into place.

Not like it's some crappy company either, capcom don't usually spew dogshit controls like some other companies (hi Sega how's it going? or hi Wii SNES games with intentionally bad controls with GC and non remappable buttons so we're forced to buy another accessory).

I played Resident Evil 1 with no memory card and I loved every minute of it. By forcing me to replay it when I died I got to experience the little differences in how the game experience based on how you explored the mansion. Eventually I had to get a memory card because dying after finally making into the lab was painful as hell, but I still loved that game.

To be honest, I liked RE3 controls the most, even though aiming wasn't as precise compared to 4 or 5. RE4 took some getting use to but by the end I was enjoying it. My problem with the controls on RE5 mostly comes from the fact that I've played several survivor horror games since RE4 that had controls I liked better ie: Dead Rising, which happens to be a Capcom game. I'm spoiled and I admit it but really how much longer can these types of controls really be deemed acceptable before they just start to feel archaic?
