Because the company doesn't actually give a shit about gamers/games. They also screw people over pretty bad with trade in values/used game prices.
It's really sad because the company didn't used to be like that. Each store used to have a cool local game store vibe that made it fun to come in and chat with the employees about games. They employees used to be friendly and knowledgeable and would be able to point you to some cool under appreciated hidden gems. Now the employees don't know shit about games and can only tell you about Modern Call of the Battlefield 12 or Madden 57. They're are also more focused on getting game reservations and magazine subscriptions than anything else.
