Being able to only judge by the facebook post I agree with Byr. Kids all develop at different rates and just because his daughter isn't socializing actively with other kids playing or isn't behaving the way he thinks she should doesn't mean something is wrong. You have to let go of your preconceived notions of what your kid should be doing or how they should be acting. Every kid at my sons daycare class are at different stages of development even though they are all very close in age.

Plus at that age kids develop so quickly that a difference of 1 or 2 months in age can mean a big difference in their behavior.

(This is completely separate from his need to be with his daughter though and I hope him the best of luck in that regard.)

Had a similar interaction with a 2yo boy, almost exactly what was described in the Facebook post (not really bratty) - but he was living with both his father and mother. A year later he is the absolute opposite. The parents and friends were worried at first but it's all good. Talks a lot, plays with kids of all ages, plays with dolls, might be gay, all good in general.

The concern about her development notwithstanding, the real issue is that her mother never lets my brother see her. He sends her child support every month as he is supposed to, but he sees her approximately three hours every three months, which is not right. I know that he wants to have some say in how she is parented but more than anything, he wants to be a part of her life and he's not being given the chance to.

If he's paying child support as he's been ordered, she cannot keep him from seeing the child. He needs to go to the lawyer on base and they'll handle it for him. Easy peasy.

ftfy. One of my buddies is in a similar situation. He's one of the kindest people I've ever met, and wants to be a good father, but his ex is crazy. Also, I have a brother I haven't seen since I was like 3 (I'm 25) because his mom was even crazier. Theory is all well and good, but when you take into account the prejudices of the legal system from top to bottom, it makes it extremely difficult for ANY father to overrule the mother, no matter what quality.

Anyone use that at&t wireless service for the tv? Been bombarded with commercials for it for months, and it just occurred to me that might be something rather useful.

I go down to my in-laws every other week for a few days so I can study and they can play with their granddaughter. As some have seen me post before, they watch fox news 24/7. I usually spend a lot of time in my husband's old room to relax/study, but there's no cable jack in there. They have at&t already, but my google abilities seem to be failing on how much it costs, or if it needs to be a specific plan and/or tv.

Is there a TV and a window? Is there a specific channel you want, or do you just want options?

One of my roommates wanted to go back to having either cable or satellite, but his main interests revolve around major sports games and shows broadcast on public television, so I gifted him this:

I explained to him that you put it in the window, connect it to your television, and then (presuming that the television has this built-in; if not, you can get a box for it) have it search for all available stations via antenna. I actually already use an antenna at home, We have an "extra" one I could bring to his parents (our bigger tv has an internal antenna in it already). They have super cable, though, so it'd be nice to watch some stuff I normally don't get in our apt.

Starting next year if I don't get a teaching job in LA, I'm going back to substitute teaching in SD during the week (can't do daycare in LA with subbing since it's on call jobs), which means I'll be spending even more time in SD than normal, so thinking ahead about my options.

Hike somewhere and have a picnic.

Or put on boring looking work clothes, rent two riding mowers, transport them to the nearest state park, and race.

Go to the zoo and bring a cooler, many zoos allow patrons to bring in their own food and eat there. Better than just going to a boring old park :D It's a date AND a picnic!

I got my first credit card from capital one about two week ago. I've put a few charges on it since then, but I still don't have a payment due date shown on the website. When will the due date pop up? I'm trying to use the card to build credit.

Keep checking, they might deliberately set the 1st billing cycle short to have you accidentally pay late and trigger a higher rate. However, there is no reason you can't make a payment now, early. Just call and ask.

Be very very careful with Capital One. They were the only company who gave me a card when I was first starting out and had the same experience here where they sent me my first bill on paper but sent it to the orphanage I grew up at rather than my military P.O. box. I ended up missing the payment which they charged me a $33 fee plus a full 33% interest charge. The next month it reverted back but the same thing happened and I was never notified of the payment online. Ended up just trashing their card and picking up Navy Federal. I still ended up paying off my measly $500 credit limit for months after that between the interest and penalty charges they never took off after I stopped using the card.

Payment due for most credit lines is only set after the closing of the statement, usually a months worth of time/charges. It doesn't update throughout the month, regardless of how much you charge.

You also can't be charged interest on those purchases until one month from the closing time of that statement (not counting cash or check purchases, they work differently).

The lighter in my car died and now it doesn't heat my lighter or run any kind of electrical device (i.e. phone charger). What broke? Is it an easy fix? I have a 1998 Saturn SL2.
