Why is everyone obsessed with streaming everything, these past couple years? Did they forget you can delete files after viewing, or think it's safer, or new technology, or something?

The appeal of watching while downloading something rather than after it's finished, I think

Which I'm pretty sure you can still do; most mpeg wrappers store metadata by block. Just use a player that doesn't suck.

Don't have to worry about getting a c&d if you're just streaming too, no?

Don't have to worry about getting eaten by the lion as long as there's at least one antelope slower than yourself.

Doubtful, but you're a hell of a lot more likely to get malware from the site/ad banner.

I know a couple people who got C&D letters for very modest torrenting of common shows (Top Gear, Bleach, etc). Seen plenty of DMCA complaints at work that were only technically over a handful of MP3s.
Pretty sure it's not just worst offenders that get slapped with 'em.

Finding direct download links is probably the best all-around. Or just use legal options.

Why is anyone afraid of a C&D? If you get a C&D, just C and D.

The torrent itself downloads pieces in a nonlinear fashion. It gives preference to the rarest piece in the cloud. Which is why torrents are awesome. Movie files don't work for the aforementioned reason.

It's not necessarily the first one that's the problem. Multiple could mean your ISP boots you.

Writing a book, and need some help understanding different perspectives as in people's views on life.

A lot of it has to do with religion, culture, way of life, etc. and how people interpret and base their reality off of it, think if I start thread here it will actually get some input?

Where would be the best place to put it?

You are just "writing a book" and you don't know how to do research for it? Seems like you should organize your thoughts first, figure out what you are trying to say and specifically who you want views on life from and then go out and interview people in person or over the phone to get the specific information you want. If you are actually writing a book then these forums might not be the best source of information for that sort of thing. But then again maybe it will, depends on what your book is about.

I think if your topic is interesting enough to spark up conversation then starting a thread wouldn't be a bad thing but you will likely only get 1 or 2 pages of useful information before the thread devolves into an argument about something stupid.

I have doubts about you "writing a book" though and not knowing how to research for the book you are writing.

i'm attending a wedding on saturday, 1PM. bride/groom are both highschool friends of mine (age 29, to give you an idea of the crowd. vast majority of the party will be people that age).

oddly, this will be the first wedding i have ever attended.

gonna toss on a suit, but was wondering what shirt/tie i should wear.

should i wear a white shirt + tie? i don't like wearing white shirts without ties (dunno why).

or should i wear a stripped shirt without a tie? with a tie?

and lastly, should i toss on a sweater vest on either of the above choices? (nyc, still a bit chilly)

thanks for the prompt and helpful feedback. <3

edit: throwing in a pic for build/frame if that matters at all:
    Spoiler: show

    i'm on the right. 5'11 195lbs

Did they give any feedback in the invitation about dress? How formal is the wedding going to be? What kind of venue is the ceremony/reception at? These can have a massive effect on how you dress to a wedding. Over dressing is a very bad thing, under dressing is slightly less of a bad thing (unless you are family or in the wedding party) because you can hide in the back.

I would say the safest is to go business casual. I would go with a suit with a stripped shirt without a tie or a solid colored shirt without a tie. That way you look decent but you won't be encroaching on the wedding party by dressing to formally. This is just my personal experience with weddings. That advice is also based on the idea that the wedding is in a church and the reception is indoors in a hotel or somewhere fancy.

If the wedding and reception are outside then it can be less formal.

I have been to weddings where it was hawaiian shirts and shorts and flipflops or no shoes and I have been to weddings where it was suit and tie.

Usually a nice pair of slacks and a nice button up shirt is enough in my personal experience. Short sleeve if it is going to be warm, long sleeve if it is going to be cold.

    @ Foopy:

What your wearing in that pic should be acceptable at 90% of weddings, the other 10% are the folks in your life that are rich as shit, and want something super formal, AKA tuxedo's...
HOWEVER: you will want a sports jacket, no sweater vest.
REASON: Weddings are hook up central, women are all freaked out about finding a good guy, or they let their inhibitions go and get drunk and decide that hooking up with a dude is totally acceptable. the jacket, is your in. women wear stupid clothing not at all designed for actually living in the real world, and in turn expect to borrow things from the men in their lives to keep them warm. you can be that man, using your jacket.

that's a good criticism, I wouldn't use a thread as a sole cornersone for a book, there are other things I am looking into

asking the question here before making a thread was to see what kind of crowd I'd talk to(since I don't regularly talk outside of ffxi threads and rarely there), you answered that in your third statement

It wasn't to imply I need someone to help write the book for me it was to see if I was feeding pearls to pigs, your comment was pretty sharp but I do appreciate it and you deserve this answer at least

I didn't mean to sound harsh just realistic. I guess if I wanted to fish for more information on whether or not starting a thread here would be worthwhile for you we would have to find out what your book is about, what is your overall message for the book, what target audience is the book for, what kinds of questions are you going to ask and what kind of answers would you like to get?

The demographic of users on these forums varies so greatly that I think it would be hard to get any sort of specific information from a specific demographic unless you weed people out in your initial post by telling for example only female gamers to post, or only males over a certain age etc. But even then on the internet in anonymous forums your sources of information are going to be hardly reliable. I am always amazed when people even come here looking for information for research papers for college with the exception of the few who ask for verification via phone or private email on the persons identity they are getting the information from.

But then again I don't really know what kind of book you are writing so maybe who you get your information from is irrelevant.

I hope you do find what you need and write an eloquent or at least interesting book.
