You may want to put more towards A on instinct and because it has a higher interest rate, but in actuality, you would save the most in interest payments by applying the extra money towards B.

Loan A would be accruing ~$2,000 in interest a year, while loan B would be accruing ~$3,000. Loan B would have to fall below at least $40,000 before it may be more desirable to pay loan A in its place. Keep that in mind when prioritizing your payments.

You are correct in that much of an interest discrepancy makes A a better choice when considering the life of the loan though. I used simple numbers for the sake of an example without doing all the math, as yes in that case the interest rate difference is too big, but the point I made earlier still stands for something a bit more realistic.

    Like:
    Loan A: 10-year - $20,000 - 5% interest
    Loan B: 10-year - $60,000 - 4% interest

A hypothetical $10,000 lump sum payment towards Loan B would save you $500 more in interest over the life of the loan.
    what?

perhaps you are explaining your idea wrong. or i'm just failing hardcore at reading comprehension.

your initial example and your follow up example would both benefit from applying any payment to the loan with the higher interest rate.

using your second set of loan figures:

    A. $20,000 @ 5% = $1,000
    B. $40,000 @ 4% = $1,600
    annual interest charge of $2,600

applying a single lump sum payment of $10,000 to loan A.

    A. $10,000 @ 5% = $500
    B. $40,000 @ 4% = $1,600
    annual interest charge of $2,100

applying a single lump sum payment of $10,000 to loan B.

    A. $20,000 @ 5% = $1,000
    B. $30,000 @ 4% = $1,200
    annual interest rate of $2,200

bottom line, to anyone who bothered reading this: always pay off higher interest rate, no matter what the balance is. (unless you are receiving special tax breaks such as for mortgages, but that is another discussion)

This has probably been asked before.. but I'm gonna ask anyway...

What is a blue gartr? Why is it blue? What do you use a gartr for? Can I eat it?

    Oh, and...

When I quote someone, does the name of the person who made the quote whose quote I'm putting in the quote wrap automatically appear, or do I need to make that link? How?

I suffer from forum code failure... if there's a list somewhere of what codes you can use, besides the buttons which magically give you the code, I would greatly appreciate having it.

Also, when someone replies to your post, do you or can you get a notification?

Does it bother people if I put a link to my art gallery/personal comic page in my signature?

If I mention I have big boobs, will people on the forum treat me nicer? If so.. I hope it's an admin or someone else with uber powers who can up my post number PASSED 10 so I can post pictures....... And no, they would not be of my boobs. o_O

If you hit Reply with Quote it will include the name of the person you're quoting and a mini-link to the post itself. If you want to manually quote someone or something from elsewhere, the code is [*quote="Name of thing"] without the asterisk.

You do not get notifications. You can follow or subscribe to threads to view them in your profile, but nothing is sent to your email or anything as far as I know. That would be really annoying, so I have not really pursued whether or not there indeed is a way to get notifications of that sort.

No, lots of people do it.

Demosthenes might, not to be confused with Demosthenes11. If you want to post something in particular, PM an admin (red names) about it and they might manually increase your postcount or something. Otherwise, you can post broken links (throw a space in or something) and someone else can fix them in a reply post.

Has anyone ever gotten an apartment with their sibling here? Any difficulties that only arise due to familyness? Back story in spoiler

    Spoiler: show
Sister currently goes to University 5 hours away. Pretty much hates being so far away from everyone, and doesn't like living with people, avoids the other people in her house just because of that. So she's moving to one half an hour away, but doesn't drive, and doesn't want to live at home (picky picky), and will run into the same problem. Parents pretty much spoil her (my spoiling dried up when I got a full time job, I pay for a portion of food and majority of the internet bill, and have my own car etc, living rent free to save for a house but realistically the money that I would have put aside on rent gets spent on stuff I don't need) but are unwilling to pay for an entire apartment just for her. Mom and Sis proposed that we get an apartment together, and split the cost of rent. I'm not overtly against it, but would like some idea of difficulties that would be different than when we're both at home for extended periods of time.

We normally get along pretty well, when we're in a disagreement over something it's usually pointless shit that we get at each other's throats for but it drops just as quickly as it escalates, typical brother sister crap.

Difficulty about living with a sibling I think is that you can't really keep anything from each other. You're gonna know about everything doing with bf/gf, share everything, have to compromise on how to decorate the place, etc.

Esp. if she's spoiled she might be interdependent to an extreme and expect you to pay for everything, drive her everywhere etc. It really depends on her personality though, if she has a generally good personality it will probably be okay. Just keep in mind that you will be all up in each other's stuff all the time because of living together. It's way different from living in a house with parents, I think.

Mobile Hotspot + iPod Touch (or iPad) = Profit?

I'm shopping around for a phone and the idea kind of came to me. I never used a mobile hotspot, so I don't know how good the connection quality is or if there's any draw backs. But if I just buy a new generation iPod Touch or iPad and a mobile hotspot from some carrier like Verizon, would there be any draw backs? With apps like Skype, I'd still be able to call/text people.

Am I going about this the wrong way, or is this possible?

Wouldn't that mean you'd have to be near some store that offers wifi for it to work? Or are you talking about those mobile 3g internet devices?

If that's the case, why the hassle? It isn't any where near as reliable as just using a phone as a phone, and it's just all around a pita.

Is baking paint onto metal parts in a home-use oven safe? Does it matter what type of paints are used? My brother painted some exhaust tips for his motorcycle and baked them in our oven today and it was used later for dinner. This seems incredibly dumb even with ventilation during the process, but my real concern isn't so much with the fumes as it is if anything is potentially being released during the process into the oven interior that could affect food safety. I tried searching but nothing really conclusive came up other than some random automotive forums giving an overly carefree "yeah sure no problem". Why do I have to ask this.

Didn't look too hard at if it's got any sources whatsoever, but on http://www.ehow.com/how_6512078_bake...nto-metal.html
Due to fumes and toxicity, never use an oven that is used for food preparation for baking on paint.

Any of you guys get warranties on your tablets?

I'm debating between Squaretrade and Worth Ave Group for my ipad3. With discounts, ST will cost me $89 for 2year with accidental, and WAG will cost $63 but it also adds theft to the warranty. I have a ST warranty on a laptop, but this WAG is so much cheaper and I only saw one thread on it on macrumors with good reviews.

Should I pony up for the company I already know and do business with or save $30?

Loan B was $60,000 in the follow-up example, not $40,000.

Additionally, the follow-up example was in regards to the life of the loans (10-year period). Not the short-term (1-year).

A hypothetical $10,000 lump sum payment towards Loan B would save you $500 more in interest over the life of the loan.

Here's a better example to illustrate it, with all of the numbers included:
    (table-breaker)
    Spoiler: show

A hypothetical $10k lump sum payment towards the lower interest loan saves $349.55 more in the total amount of interest you would pay over the 10-years, even though in the first year it saves less.

A rather small difference of course, but the fact still stands that the balance (and not just the interest rate) can matter too.

Dunno but there's an awesome software pack at http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ that has a program that does it with several options to choose from (format/quality). You can get it standalone too, I think.

3outube was one of em, dunno if it still works

Just take the youtube link and replace the y with a 3

Alternately, zamzar.com will do it but you don't get immediate feedback; they email you a link once they "convert" the video (you don't actually have to convert it if you just keep the format as flv)

Not wanting to sift through 56 pages..
I got into an accident at school and left my insurance and phone number on their windshield.
He called me and wanted to do this without involving the insurance company, so we agreed on 100$ to call it square.
So I'm wondering.. is there like a basic document or something I can do to confirm this so i don't get fucked if he wants to file a claim after he gets the money?
    Thanks ahead of time.

All you need is a piece of paper (preferably 2), a pen (or a printer) and 2 signatures. Contract can be written on anything, and don't require anything special.

An impartial witness would be a very good idea for something like that. I wouldn't go so far as to notarize it, but if you have a witness that would be willing to come in and say, "Yes, I saw these two agree to the terms on that sheet of paper," should it ever come up, that would be your best bet.
