It's gonna take up a lot of room in my luggage as well. May just leave it here if I don't feel I'll have a viable way of selling it.
You could try ebay then, if you don't care if you lose it.

A question from the other day had me thinking about weight loss and artificial sweeteners. Do any artificial sweeteners (Aspartame, Sucralose, etc.) or alternative sweeteners (Stevia) spike insulin? At least to the point of not providing a real benefit over sugar aside from strictly calories? They're commonly bulked up with Dextrose as well, if that has any effect. I'm curious since my Uncle has been dieting and saw very good results early on yet has stalled out and seems to rely on artificial sweeteners in tea to makeup for his soda habit.

Scientists have been kicking the idea around that just by tasting sweetness your body produces insulin. This is a rather good and well-cited blog post about it.

That was one of the first things I read and actually what brought about the question concerning carbohydrate bulking agents. I'm still curious, though, given the tests are done on the sweeteners themselves and not as usually packaged with maltodextrin/dextrose and only a small sliver is dedicated to that saying "yes there's an effect" without much elaboration. The comments seem to be mostly from fairly hardcore paleo dieters and seem a little too radical or over-confident in their opinions to really be sure of what's true. It'd be really great to see a study of 3 controlled groups separated by no sweeteners, artificial and sugar with the purpose of observing weight loss.

Does anyone here have experience using "the cloud" at/for work? I work in a law office and have been tasked with attempting to evaluate whether or not it would be viable as a replacement for our current system. I've already done research on my own, but I'd like to hear from people who actually use it as well.

Basically, I want to know what sort of features it could potentially offer that aren't available using on-site storage and our own software, how the cost compares, how easy it is to use, etc. And recommendations of particular providers to check out would be awesome.

Wall-o-text very specific questions under the spoiler.

    Spoiler: show
From my (admittedly very basic) understanding, most "cloud computing" providers offer all of the very basic features we need (ability to batch upload documents, create nested folders, do a full text search of all documents, etc.). Beyond that, I'm basically trying to determine what benefits cloud computing would offer to improve our current system or streamline our day-to-day tasks. To this end, I created a list of questions I want to consider when evaluating any potential new system. At the risk of highlighting my own ignorance, here they are:

How is the cloud accessed? Will it appear as a mapped drive, is there some sort of synchronization software we need to install, or is everything done through the browser?

How easy is it to batch upload documents? Is there a recommendation for the minimum download/upload speeds we should have in order to properly utilize the cloud?

If we were to allow clients access to the files for their case, how easy would it be to control client permissions, and how customizable are they? For instance, could we give clients the ability to view, upload, and download documents without allowing them to delete or modify documents? Could we have different permissions for different clients? What sort of changes does the system track (e.g., when a client uploads a file, moves a file to a different folder, views a file, etc.)?

Our current system will automatically show who created a document, who last edited it, etc., but we can also manually add who it was to/from, what type of document it is (correspondence, pleadings, discovery, contracts, etc.), and so on. Can we add this sort of metadata in the cloud? Can we sort or search based on these categories? Is there anything in place to help with consistent naming conventions to make it easier to find documents created or uploaded by other people, as well as to prevent multiple people from uploading the same document?

What happens if multiple people have a document open at once, or if multiple people are working on a document at once? Could we easily create and save multiple document versions simultaneously without creating too much clutter? How easy would it be to merge documents after the fact so they would reflect all changes that were made? Alternatively, is there some other way of getting around the issue of being unable to save changes to a document if someone else accidentally leaves it open without having to create a new document version?

What sort of integration is there with our own software (Adobe, MS Office, etc.)? For instance, we can currently save e-mail attachments directly to our networked system without having to download them, associate emails with a particular case so we can view all applicable correspondence at once, and tie calendar entries to particular cases so we can keep track of upcoming deadlines; does the cloud provide similar features? Do we need these programs in order to manipulate the documents, or are we able to manipulate them within the cloud? Would outdated software potentially cause compatibility issues?

Our system allows for the storage of client info so we can search for a case not only based on a business name or a case number but also on the name of the client. This also helps when checking for conflicts of interest. Does cloud computing offer anything comparable? How would this data be stored and organized? How would client files themselves be organized? For instance, would we be able to create a convenient system for storing and organizing multiple matters for the same client? Would we be able to classify cases based on area of law and then sort based on that categorization? Would it be easy to duplicate documents between different matters?

Anyone have any experience with greyhound? My plans fell through for my next destination, which I was supposed to be at for a day. I'm fine with just calling the ticket a loss, but my next destination for the day after is non transferrable, so it has to be from that exact station.

So for now, the only solution is going anyways and dishing out money for a hotel, which I can't really afford to do, sleeping in the park or something similar, or trying to see if I can change to ticket to go to the same destination but leave from where I'm at now (since I'm welcome to stay here for another day, but still have to be at the second destination to go to the third, so unless they let me swap or I have to buy a new ticket, it won't happen)

What kind of money are people paying Time Warner for cable internet atm (non bundled). My first year promo wore off and now I'm stuck paying 53.95 a month for the most basic cable which is retardedly high imo. It's as high as my gas and electric bills combined. Unfortunately for me, I don't think I can switch to a cheaper service because not many others are available in my area. Gonna look into it regardless, but...

I hate resorting crap in folders on my computer by type, because I have to click sort by > more > type, and then sort by type, and shit never saves. How to fuck do I make it save "Sort by Type" or at least keep that thing on the list?

I know this works for setting a default in how you view a folder, but I _think_ this also works for defaulting the sorting options.

Go to a folder, set whatever view/sort options you want, and then go to Tools > Folder Options > View > the 'Apply to Folders' button.

I'm not familiar with Time Warner, but with Comcast you call and speak to their customer retention department. They can usually get you a lower rate again in order to keep your business. Which reminds me, it's time to call Comcast again.

I tried that and I got an outsourced guy, I could barely understand what he was telling me, he did tell me there was no promotion in my area, I didn't feel like fighting him cause he wouldn't have been able to do anything to help me. I heard from someone else here who has TW that she pays the same as I do, so I guess I'm probably stuck with that super high rate =/

Cancel it and just pirate everything <___<

It costs less here for a few hundred channels with HD and a dvr.

54$? Shit, I wish my company was that low. Call during the day and press the option to cancel your services. They're paid to make sure you don't cancel. Afterhours could give a flying fuck if you cancel or not.

So homework help time! Got a project for one of my college courses and here are the rules for it:

You may use the Internet for work and school
    · You may use an iPod, CD player, radio, etc. for listening to things like music or books
    · You may check personal email, or visit Social Networking sites, or browse online for a maximum 30 minutes per day. (Your analysis should discuss what you did during those 30 minutes each day.)
    · You may use any form of screen-free media, e.g. books, newspapers, magazines, as much as you like.

EXCEPT as discussed above for the designated for the 30 minutes:
    · You may not use a TV, computer, or any other kind of device to watch shows, movies, play games
    · You may not visit any Social Networking sites; for example Facebook or Twitter
    · You may not use the Internet for leisure activities or browsing
I am to take a journal of all the time I spend with "media" now that I'm not allowed to look at any type of screen and analyze it with an earlier project where I simply analyzed my actual media usage. I own 0 books, magazines, etc. and I'm not going out to buy a bunch of stuff or anything, so clearly I'm not following protocol. But what can I say I do with my spare time? "I had a lot more sex without video games"? My first project had me at 77.5 hours a week for media exposure, of that only 8.5 is "allowed". Meaning I have 69 hours of a week to fill up with other things and then analyze how the week was different than before...wtf

And I guess maybe it's sad I have no idea what to do without access to internet/TV/etc., but I doubt I'm the only one here.

No sadder than not knowing what you would do if every grocery store and restaurant suddenly closed. There's nothing sad about not knowing something there is literally no reason to know.

Can anyone identify what song this is and/or who the composer is? It's listed on my computer as Born For This by Paramore but that's so completely not accurate, and I really really like it.

The morning people are starting/middle of their day. There's usually no 2am to 10 AM shift unless the company is international. Call to cancel the cable service during the day between 8 and 5, their retention department is graded on how many customers they 'save' so unless you get someone who doesn't like keeping their job, they'll offer you something.
