If I have a portable 12k BTU AC.... does having the cool mode 60 degrees take more energy than just have the fan on? Or does it not matter since the unit is on anyway.

I have a 1lb bag of beef jerky that's been sitting on the shelf for like 2 months because I had jaw work done and it's too tough/painful for me to chew it. However, I was wondering if there was any way to tenderize the meat so that I could eat it. I was thinking of slow cooking it in some beef broth or bbq sauce for a few hours. Any thoughts? I can eat ribs just fine, so I was hoping to get it to that consistency.
More or less the same thing!! Fuck, lack of caffeine is killing me.It's Omnipotent, not omniscient.![]()
Anyone got some spare time to photoshop something real quick for me? I can email the images or host them somewhere. Essentially I want to make a sloshball logo that mimic's the MLB blue/red/white logo but using a friend as the profile/negative space. I'm stuck trying to do it using MS Paint and I can't download any thing like gimp/PS/Illustrator at work.
Anyone know a good website that does custom embroidery on polo shirts?
nvm got it fixed.
So I went out today and before I get in to my car every time I do a quick visual sweep around the car. Well today I found about a half inch gash in the front passenger side tire (outer wall). After examining it, I feel it was vandalism. Looks like someone tried to jab the tire and upon pulling it out it looked like they took a chunk of the outer wall and made it in to a flap (only way to describe it). It goes in about a quarter inch and didn't penetrate the tire (no air leaking or anything) and nothing is broken inside the gash. Called the local Pep-boys (only people who seem to have a good deal other than a used shop which notoriously I feel they just resurface used tires and you don't get much use out of them in terms of milage) and they said the earliest they can fit me in is Tuesday. So what are the chances I can drive the thing under moderate/light driving conditions and won't have to worry about a massive blow-out that could force the car to flip over or something? It's factory tires on a 2007 Honda Accord if that helps. I live in a big city so there's a lot of potholes/bumps/railroad tracks and shit that sucks to drive over.
Re: Slashed Tire
If you have to drive it, probably better to use the spare. If you do put the spare on, make sure it's properly inflated - you'll probably need to take it down to the closest gas station to get it filled. You won't be able to do more than 30 mph on it, nor go further than 50 miles.
Even though the inner tire itself is fine, tires still use the sidewalls for support and structural rigidity when you corner. Driving a car with a slashed tire could pose a problem with an insurance claim should you get into an accident. I can't imagine it would be very safe if you have to make and emergency brake or turn either.
How's the public transit in your city? lol
1 inch thick pork chops, how long should I cook them?
Anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours, depending on how you're cooking them.
Grilling to sear and then on top of foil to cook through.
Beneficiary of a life insurance policy here, but am pretty much obligated (not legally anyway) to share with my 2 sister and my mom. How do I split it 4 ways without anyone getting taxed on it? Company is in Iowa, I'm in Oregon, total claim is 200k if it makes a difference.
Also, how likely is it that FAFSA will accept a special circumstance and not say "no gtfo" when I apply next year for 2013-2014 school year?
Sorry for the loss.
Life insurance death benefits are tax-free, at least to the beneficiary. I believe that you could have the life insurance company split up the death benefit between people of your choosing, so long as you're the primary beneficiary (would definitely be possible if your sisters/mom are also beneficiaries of some sort [secondary or whatever]). Otherwise, the max cash gift you can give to a person without them having to pay taxes is $13,000 per year (for 2012).
FAFSA will count the life insurance money you receive as part of your assets. But on the other hand, if it is a parent that passed away, it also changes your situation in some ways for the better as far as applying for aid goes (as it decreases the income coming into your household and you now have a one-parent household).
Also worth noting that your max cash gift doubles if you are married because the max cash gifting is per-person and you can say that both you and your spouse gave a gift.
Well, I because it is 200k four ways, I give 13k to each sister and husband this year, 12k next year. The portion for my mom is supposed to be a retirement fund (because having 50k cash will mess up her eligibility for medicare/aid etc.) but I don't know how to handle that.
Otherwise, I'm under the impression that FAFSA basically only asks you what assets you have, like cars and houses and money in the bank. If it isn't in the bank (in cash, in a safe), does it really have to be claimed? Also, I think there was some mention of having to fill out a form when making the cash gift - a piece of paper that will essentially inform the government of the gift but I won't have to pay taxes on it, provided it isn't more than 13k per year, per person. I don't know what will happen if that form makes an appearance when I apply for FAFSA. Could I put it all in my gf's name, or is even she applicable to that 13k/year gift max per person? I could put 13k to her and to our son this year, then 12k each next year, and once it's exhausted then apply for fafsa...
Edit: I'm 28 and not living with any parent, was over 24 when I started school, if it makes a difference.
Yes, but lying usually works fine.If it isn't in the bank (in cash, in a safe), does it really have to be claimed?
