Not sure what "stinger" attack you are referring to.

As for killing vs capturing, for the most part it's the same drops, generally it's a better chance to get stuff with capturing but it's not always the case. There's carving FAQs on GameFAQs that detail each drop, carve, capture and reward for breaking.

It's not possible to get Heavenly Rathalos Scales by carving his body, so the best way to get it would be to break it's head, carve tail and capture.

And the attack is when he uses his tail to sting/poison instead of spitting out a fireball, for some reason it connects no matter how far I am/run

Oh right, that attack can be a bitch to avoid unless you're playing really carefully. If you cut his tail off it seems to lower the range a fair bit, but other than that you just have to back the fuck up or get around the side of him as fast as possible.

His stinger tail has a HUGE tell that you can see ahead of time. This will give you a good start on your run-dive (invincible dive, I'm sure you know this by now).

Basically, when he shoots fireballs in the air, his back will arch a little bit and his tail will curl slightly. When he's doing his Stinger attack, you'll see his tail curl backwards. This action is FAR different than his fireball attack, and when I found this out I never got hit once.

I think he means the tail attack from the ground, where he jumps up in the air and hits you with the tail. The aerial one you mean has him claw at you. If you do mean the aerial one, just stand underneath him when he's flying and you're entirely safe.

Didn't know there was another one on the ground. I've never seen him do it in Elder or GH. Guess I need to slay moar.

Always thought the claw attack in the air was his tail for some reason lol.

It's the same one Rathian does (you must have seen this, she does it a shitload, especially Gold Rathian). It is super annoying. I have seen the G rank Gold Rathian use it 4x in a row once, most of the time she gives up after 3 fails though.

My mind is blank. I'm thinking the Rathian one is the backflip, but that's probably not what you are talking about. Going to go kill me a Pink Rathian or something real quick.

Yes, that is the one I assume he is talking about. Rathalos can use it too, but he doesn't use it much (might be colour specific too, Azure and Silver definitely do it).

Good luck, getting those jewels is a serious bitch. Took me about 15 kills to get just one.

And I'm pretty sure the person was talking about the Los claw dive, since afaik that's the only Rathalos poison attack (I've never seen a Los do a backflip either). The answer is that every time Rathalos flies up, run beneath him quickly. Neither the fireballs or the dive can hit you if you stand in his shadow.

Hm, the MH wiki doesn't say any of the Rathalos uses the tail flip. I was sure I'd seen one of them using it before but I guess not.
