I'd highly suggest staying away from bows if you solo a lot. In terms of damage, it's by far the weakest type of weapon in the game.

BG however is really really powerful. Generally armor with recoil and reload speed up are the best to use with BG, but it depends on the bowgun of course.

I can get rid of sharpness to use RA+3 instead. I even have more options w/ Akan legs ;o

Edit: Thank you for making me check if I could make that set, ended up playing for a bit and got 2 Heavenly Rathalos Scales in like 45 minutes of flash bomb farming (I about shit myself when the second dropped, was expecting it to take hours again) and this:

Oh cool, you finally opened that bastard. And grats with the plates, now you can make some cool pieces of armour. And yeah, the crown is the hardest part to make, the other stuff ain't that bad.

I actually have a better set, let me switch it.

If you don't have 2 [slots], you can sacrifice whichever skill or switch to other pieces of equipment (akantor legs)... All look like trash compared to this one :D

I can make the whole set, the thing is that it gives you useless skills aside from RA+3. It even has negative effects.

If you want RA+3, sharpsword +1, and sharpness w/o looking like a chump, this is it mate.

I have earplugs, RA+1 (2 with 3 slot weapon), sharpness +1 and sharp sword without mixing anything.

And I look like a fucking pimp with the giant black horns coming off of my shoulders!

Can anyone suggest a solid set of gunner armor? I'm up to 9 star elder cat quests and I'm HR6 within the guild hall. Haven't quite reached G-rank yet but I did recently discover how powerful HBG is and I'm interested in making good gunner armor.

Problem is, I've been a melee meatbag since MH for the ps2 so I'm use to focusing on attack, sharpness and RA. <3 for any nifty advice.

There are many skills to choose from (recoil reduction, survival, load up, HGE, RA's) and it also depends on the number of slots you have in your weapon. Most of the worthwhile stuff is in the range of X-Z type tho <_< So just mix and match until you get a higher rank.

After trying the equipment above, I don't know, have mixed feelings. For one, I got used to rolling way too much for the lack of evasion gear. The equipment above lacks evasive maneouvers, and thus it depletes the stamina bar way too fast.

Sharpness it's very noticeable, however. Obviously that helps a lot to keep the highest damage multiplier. This is perfect for those mobs where you don't need HGE.

Over all though, Los Soul Z wins.

I usually just use a weapon that can block for HGE monsters. Pretty much all of the HGE ones have HUGE tells before they roar, and tend to be good GS or SnS targets.

Though I have to admit that I'm pretty annoyed that Gold and Silver got their roars upgraded.

Don't you need Guard Up to block roars? I remember in MHF2 I couldn't block roars (or I was too slow, I'm not sure) but I was able to block flashes from Gypceros.

Some roars stagger you when you guard, but it still takes less time to recover from than the actual roar itself would.
