Defining momments in FFXI / BG history

Ok my turn to chime in... here is how long I have been reading BG... some things that stick out from the old old days...

-Twentytwo being the first NA on Bahamut with Empyrial Arrow

- Bloodberry killing Bloodtear as SAM using a Polearm all the while someone in his PT kept asking if they needed to help to kill it... Penta Spam old school style where he spams it over and over and over and over...

- Lawnchair LS still existed (old site with some videos)

- I remember having a account on BG's original pre-WoW split site.

- Archain made the original, epic Triple Attack video in the jungle

- Gund (sp) was the man from a Ninja G5 video

- the original BG Dynamis Sandoria video right after Dynamis came out


Some others of note that arent as old as the ones above...

- Wafik's THF gear when he got his Mandau and everyone giving him hell about it, then Wafik shutting overone up with his Mandau testing.

- Ruke's Fire Resist Gear

- The Epic Pandy Tiamat thread (yeah im from Pandy, its was epic to us)

- The awesome vid of BG with KB on hold and some cell phone calls being made!!!


As far as the game goes...

- TP Nerf

- Dynamis Added

- RNG Nerf (raise your hand if you hit 75 pre-exp reduction by chaining Weapons in Moon and Sky)

- no one wanting to buy a bird at Mea or Upper Jeuno because it was 2-3k

- pre-sushi 2handed accuracy (only took DRKs roughly 3 yrs to make up for how bad it was)

- WARs best gear options were AF1 and viking axes!

- people still leveled in the basement of Kuftal, but only if you had a WHM!

- every crab camp in the Tree had at least 2 parties fighting for it... usually 3-4 parties in the front and 3 more in the back.


There are others that deserve mention im sure... ones like MNKs being stuck at level 50, BG's Dragon Harness +1 and how awesome it was to read live updates on the forums about trying to take down JOL!

Don't ask me how I remember, not even on my serveur, but it made up for decent sigs afterwards "kite it like Genbu"

This has probably been asked before a ton of times, but I can't find anything on it.

But how did BG become *the* FFXI site to come to? I'd always check out Alla for the most part, and when Sath transfered from Fenrir to Ifrit, I asked him if he knew anyone on the server, or was just gonna start fresh for a change of people/scenery, and he said he knew people from BG site etc. Not being familiar with this site, I asked what BG was, and have been coming here since.

They were among the first non-JP LSs to do end-game stuff and they had videos showing them doing it. And their boards have always been "open" to the community. And there always was a good amount of funny drama there.

BigKills may have been a reason at some point as well.

My opinion: KI used to be slow as balls, allah had/has a bad rep for their karma system / sheer number of idiots and lack of mods willing to swing the 'stfu' hammer around.

That and finding information wasn't/isn't hard here (Especially in the days before wiki)

Many factors, it used to grow slowly but steadily, and exploded at the time JoL > AV was discovered. The forums went down many times simply from those, after that it became ever so popular, with AV being downed by Apathy (first kill I think) it got even more popular. Most of the people from KI moved over to BG due to the slowness, no idea about Zam, I never went there after I moved to KI from Zam
