Defining momments in FFXI / BG history

My defining moment was the first JoL kill with updates of live pics and then when it dies everyone was all YAAAAAY and then OMFG OMFG WTF IS THIS THING RAPING US!!!

Prolly the best week in ffxi lol.
Even tho it killed /rng.

I loved that week, althought it makes me sad that one of my best WS ever was against a Sea Puk at like level 65. :/

I started posting because of stan's bott-drama thread. defining bg moments for me = big kills/taj drama/ rng drama/ wiki drama/ nynja drama. too much drama!

I'd say that the real birth of BG as "the" location to go for FFXI info was the first AV thread, because it was the first time (for me, at least) that you got *live* updates from people actually doing something people cared about. Instead of just reading about something that some people did, they were *doing* it and you could offer suggestions or even just encouragement in real time. I wouldn't be surprised if imageshack & photobucket changed their hosting rules around that time as a result of the massive picture download spamming.

The next seminal moment was probably the discovery of the Wall of Justice (look at that, another AV moment), at the exact moment where LimitBreak was like "OH SHIT ITS WORKING" and the thread exploded instantly for about 5 pages worth of "F5F5F5" posts.

Ever since then, if you want to know what the cutting edge is in FFXI, you go to BG. Once you got here, periodic Taj-related hijinx tended to keep you here.

I'd say the most recent seminal moments in BG history would be
1. Ruke's story about his 18 hour PW (resulting in the ensuing media storm & nerf), and
2. The recent live streamed PW attempt.

All future epic battles will be measured against #1, and probably a significant portion of new content will be streamed like #2 (assuming it isn't the normal walk-over new content they usually add).

I didn't start seriously surfing BG until the Parade Gorget thread. I realized how much faster BG was getting the info than KI and Alla. It then occured to me that this was because they were getting their info from BG. After that, I just went to the information source (and stayed for the lulz and drama).

I remember when I first started playing and allah was all I knew and I couldn't figure out wtf a Wafik was and through a serious of tubes I stumbled into the JoL/AV threads which were my first big BG threads.

The epic post were Taj hacked 11 accounts and Ryko blew the whole thing on like page 50 was by far my favorite drama thread. That entire thing was hilarious.

And it wasn't a defining moment, but I miss me sum Rocl Talk.

I thought he was "banned" from posting here, but I can't say that for sure. I thought I remembered seeing Sonomaa saying something in one thread that he wasn't allowed to post here anymore after the 11 account incident; but I could be way off base.

Some good BG drama was the olllldddd Fatality stuff. Smaller in scale, but still really juicy stuff. Carbon had his own share of drama too.
